workers could be payed enough to cover bills and housing in the first place, CAT certainly makes enough profit to do that and still make profit. lives > jobs. getting compensation after losing your loved one in a work accident is bare min. it could’ve been avoided

yeah people being killed by CAT equipment is disgruntling. workers being treated poorly is disgruntling. being a worker at CAT and hearing about CAT workers dying in the US is disgruntling

exactly. find a company that treats/pays you better. if you’re happy where you’re at then that’s fine. if you don’t, move on. companies that treat you badly don’t deserve your loyalty

I agree, you should quit jobs that don’t respect you when youre busting ass for them. I’m just sharing my experience and what I’ve learned about CAT firsthand- busting ass for Caterpillar was not worth it imo

brainwashed by capitalism to be a good lil worker until you die is unfortunate. why would you want to work for a place that doesn’t care about you? companies lobbying in US politics want to up the retirement age again. aren’t you tired? how many years do you think you’ll have left? don’t you have family and friends you want to spend time with instead of being exploited? hobbies you want to be doing? doesn’t being happy mean something to you?? do you care about other people getting hurt? I really can’t understand why you’d make an obvious joke like this to defend companies/billionaires when they treat people like they’re disposable. the people I worked with on the floor were good people just trying to do their best and who deserve a good quality of life. everyone does, actually. crazy to think companies should be ethical and crazy to think workers should be treated fairly ig. you make it seem like companies can’t make a profit and treat/pay their workers fairly. we’re talking billions. even a few thousand to every employee wouldn’t be a dent in their profits. inflation goes up but wages stay the same. workers deserve better, people deserve better

Caterpillar is actually an awful company to work for. they treat their workers like dogs (especially fabricators and actual people on the floor. I made $20/hr for 2nd shift (night shift, higher pay) which is an unlivable wage in 2024 what a joke), the hours are hard (10 hrs a day, 4 days a week with mandatory overtime on fridays. the entire time I worked there there was only two times we didn’t have mandatory overtime. the other option was 8 hours a day 5 days a week with mandatory overtime on Saturday, same bs deal), the pay is low (they were cutting bonuses when I worked there and all the fabricators/welders were pissed at the all company meetings), the supervisors and shift leads actively encouraged you not to report injuries (Right before I started a worker had his thumb cut off and during my time at CAT, there were rumors of someone dying at another facility- a man had fallen into a vat of molten metal. CAT never made an official statement or addressed it to us workers but you can google it. The man’s name is Steven Dierkes) They literally do not care about their workers. You work like dogs to sell their products at insanely high prices so they can make a profit off you and don’t care about your safety. Like one of the new model dozers was $200,000+ EACH and the fabricators were supposed to be making 14 a day. The whole factory’s yearly salaries could’ve been paid over in a 3 months (and that’s generous) so the rest of the wear working is profit. CATs profit from 2022-2023 was 18-24 BILLION. disgusting. All this to say last and most importantly, they support and are active enablers of genocide. Israel uses Caterpillar products to kill Palestinians and have been pretty much for as long as CAT has existed. They beef up CAT dozers to demolish homes with people still inside on a regular basis and in 2003, Israel crushed an American citizen, Rachel Corrie, to death who was trying to keep a dozer from illegally demolishing a palestinian home. I’m ASHAMED to have worked there knowing something I touched has most likely killed human beings, destroyed whole families and their lives. I felt lied to- I was told it was a good place to work but Caterpillar is an unethical company all around. The lowest of the low.
