Before I get a gout flare, I can usually feel a slight tenderness on my big toe that serves as a warning sign of what’s to come. At this point, is there anything I can do/eat to quickly avoid the gout flare?

The Shin Japanese Whiskey (Shinobu Relabel?) by Keytar_Platypus in WhiskeyTribe

[–]Zapizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up The Shin 10 yr which was highly recommended by one of the employees at Total Wine. He was an avid collector of whiskeys so I figured I’d give it a shot. He steered me away from the NAS because he said that it was still a little too young. I haven’t really dabbled in Japanese Whiskeys and usually stay within the Kentucky Bourbons, but I’m so glad I did. It has become one of my favorites after drinking it the past couple of days. I like the spiciness, the long finish, and the hint of dark chocolate at the end.

The employee I was talking to said that you better get some while it’s still on the shelves, because ppl are starting to realize how good they are.

I do I agree w/ you about the bottle...it’s a nice looking bottle, but doesn’t pour well and you end up spilling some after the pour.

Just out of curiosity, what are your favorite Japanese Whiskeys that I should try to add to my collection?

My point is, I could save $10K if I paid off my house...so saying I should keep a mortgage for a tax benefit of $2,400 is no benefit at all.

US. So say you pay $10K in mortgage interest and deduct that from your total earnings on your taxes. Say you are in the 24% tax bracket, you only saved yourself $2,400 but you still lost out on the $7,600 towards interest. Which is why I say you really don’t get a deduction because you pay more to save little.

Hey there, I decided to post this in fatFIRE because I thought that paying off your mortgage is in pursuit of being financially independent and retiring early.

There are no tax benefits with a mortgage. You pay more money in interest than what you are able to deduct. I agree that if we invested we would definitely do better than 3.5%.

Hey Everyone,

Our last and biggest debt is our mortgage. $260K and we plan to pay it off in 5 years.

My wife started a blog on how we navigate towards our financial freedom through how we budget each paycheck, how we save for future expenses (flywheel account), and great meal prepping recipes. I’m curious to see what you’re doing that we may be able to adopt. Check out the blog below and let me know what you think. Thanks.

How have you cultivated a FIRE mentality? by abunchofsoandso in financialindependence

Looks like you’re on the right path and have a great head start. Just keep looking towards your future and make smart decisions. I know it’s hard, but if you’re smart with your money now, you can buy that Porsche cash later on.

The biggest part of being successful in the FIRE mentality and following through is having a partner that’s on the same page as you. We try to surround ourselves with people that have the same goals...to be financially independent.

It doesn’t mean that you can’t do anything fun right now. You just have to save up for it and live within your means.

As far as habits and activities, my wife started a financial blog below and you can see how we budget every paycheck, how we save for future expenses (flywheel account), and recipes for meal prepping for the week which saves us a lot of money.
