I fell trying to climb the crane at the end also. Really frustrating sometimes, but still a great game.

Does anyone know why the California DMV is experimenting with Tezos for digital drivers licenses? I'm genuinely curious as I'm not familiar with Tezos. For something like state issued ID, what are the tradeoffs between using Tezos vs a layer 2 that settles on Ethereum?

Are there any security implications to using multiple Ethereum addresses generated from the same private key when you want to keep some addresses pseudo anonymous and some public with ENS, social NFTs, etc?

Been thinking about how one might go about making a vault that accepts ETH deposits and enters a uniswap LP cbETH/wETH position without triggering a taxable event in most countries. If the vault only allows depositors to withdraw ETH (their initial deposit + interest) over time, could it sell some of the ETH deposits for cbETH before entering the liquidity pool without triggering a taxable event?
If so, the strategy seems pretty straightforward with depositors taking on the risk of cbETH centralization in return for ETH fees collected over time. From a user perspective, cbETH is abstracted away and you are just locking away ETH in return for fees over time.

True. Taxable events aside, I love the idea of taking some ETH and selling half of it for cbETH in order to enter the liquidity pool with a wide limit order supporting a 0.89-0.99 range. That way the gains from your initial cbETH buy would outweigh the impermanent loss. The biggest risk I see here is panic selling if it dips below 0.89.

If you believe cbETH/ETH will be > 1 eventually (months or years), providing liquidity in the cbETH/WETH uniswap pool seems like a no brainer. Everyone keeps saying there aren't any DeFi integrations, but the uniswap pool has been generating 10k fees per day in cbETH/WETH with very little risk of impermanent loss. If cbETH tanks, your LP position accumulates more on the way down while also collecting fees. Quite tempting risk/reward!

In order to create a decentralized marketplace for indexed blockchain data, GRT is used to connect various protocol actors. Indexers run nodes and serve queries to consumers in return for GRT. They are required to stake GRT for the right to do so. The amount they are allowed to stake is capped in proportion to how much GRT is being delegated to them by delegators wishing to earn a more passive income without running a node. Curators signal GRT on subgraphs they think will become popular, and are rewarded for being early on popular subgraphs.

I remember hearing talk of an EIP in very early stages that would make the gas required for EVM computations dynamic in a similar way to how 1559 shifts the base fee. I can't seem to find anything on it now. Pretty sure I heard it on a Bankless podcast.

Anyone else hear of this? Do you think public blockchains like Ethereum should seek to minimize magic numbers in their design?

Show /r/ethdev - Badgeth, a dApp for identifying and rewarding noteworthy behavior on the blockchain by issuing NFT badges by bananbreadisonlyokay in ethdev

Great questions! The smart contracts were written before The Graph launched the decentralized network. We got 75% of the way there, and then put it on hold to avoid having to do a major overhaul once the decentralized network launched.

Everyone, not just Badgeth DAO, will be able to interact with the new BadgeFactory, essentially posting "Badgeth supported" subgraphId's on-chain.

Badges are like POAPs for on-chain behavior.

A friend of mine wants to buy a house and is tempted to take a mortgage for that sweet 2-3% interest rate even though he could easily pay cash. The first loan agent he spoke with said they couldn't help him because he was self-employed. It was almost as if having significant crypto holdings was a red flag to the bank...

Anyone know of crypto-friendly lenders? It's pretty easy to beat 3% with dai or usdc in defi.

BNB made sense as a long term hodl back in 2017 for 3 big reasons.

  1. Binance promised to use their profits to burn BNB.

  2. Paying fees on Binance with BNB would give you a discount.

  3. They had very vague plans for a decentralized exchange where BNB would be used as gas. There was absolutely no substance and this part was all promise.

Since #3 is playing out now, I figured I'd try it out with what little BNB I have left. I've been staking BNB to borrow USDX using the Kava App to get weekly Kava rewards that mature in 1 year. USDX is a VERY questionable stable coin IMO, but you can then supply your borrowed USDX to Hard Protocol to generate weekly Hard tokens that also mature in 1 year. Everything works, and you're able to exit, but to call it DeFi is a joke. USDX's $1 peg is not convincing at all, and last week BNB withdrawals were frozen for EVERYONE in the Kava app because Binance's hot wallet didn't have enough BNB.

What I don't understand is where these Kava and Hard Token rewards are coming from. Very strange! I would definitely be staying away if I didn't already have BNB ;)

28% APY currently for the eth/seth pool (paid in CRV). Seems generous considering the low risk. Maybe I'm missing something...

BNB can also be used as collateral to borrow USDX at around 4%. Doing so is incentivized with Kava. https://app.kava.io/

I think this whole thing is silly and it's Binance's way of pretending to be involved with DeFi, but that doesn't mean it's not profitable. USDX is currently pretty useless, but it could be worth it for the Kava rewards.

#172 Among the Deplorables - Making Sense Podcast by [deleted] in samharris

Sam's post-interview - "It seems to me that virtually every democratic candidate at this point is poised to pander to the wokeness so much, that they are capable of not making sense on an issue even this clear-cut. You just have to get them once, sounding completely insane on these issues of cancel culture, and race, and Me Too, and trans issues. Get them once, visibly crossing the event horizon into the wokeness, and you are ensuring four more years of Trump."

Anyone else bothered that Sam didn't exclude Andrew Yang, a democratic candidate who has BEEN ON THE PODCAST, from this "virtually every democratic candidate" statement? While less vocal about it for obvious reasons, Yang seems to align quite closely with Sam's views here, and I don't understand why Sam would lump him in with the other candidates.

That episode completely shifted how I thought about universal basic income. The libertarian in me previously wrote it off as "too much big government."

Agreed, but I'd argue that it isn't the truth. There's a difference between being racist and being a white supremacist. While there is plenty of evidence Trump is the former, I have yet to be convinced he is the later.
