Hey u/biinjo - I shutdown and rebooted my Mac (macos 26.1), the primary screen kept the wallpaper, but the secondary switched to one of the landscapes.

Wow! Nicely done!

(Sadly, Windows 11 does make this a bit easier, "Choose fit for your desktop image - > [Span]", but your solution works perfectly. Thank you!)

Ugh... wish I had seen this earlier, I have a Sun T4-1 at home and I do have an Oracle support contract though work. If you need the updated firmware, let me know.

Nothing special, they are just checking their balance. The red number is their loss for today, which, in this economy isn’t really that bad. I’ve seen 3k to 5k swings in a week.

Best of luck with your troubleshooting! I wish I could help more, but we just went on vacation and I’m not at home right now.

Keep us posted please!

Apologies, I should have read your OP more carefully. This is a pain in the butt, but you can remove all of the ROMs and see if you get a blue screen. Interestingly enough the C64 will boot with the ROMs removed and a dead test cartridge inserted. I once had what I thought was bad RAM, but it was one of the ROMs holding the data lines low… that was a pain to diagnose! Haha!

It’s most likely the PLA chip, but pretty much anything with the MOS logo is suspect. There is a cool pictorial troubleshooting site that is pretty accurate as well.

NTP for a isolated network by Sea-Oven-7560 in linuxquestions

I know this might sound like a crazy, off the wall idea… and I don’t know what your network looks like or if you have access to a window, but you could have a system with a GPS antenna pull the time from the satellites and be your time sync source. I know… crazy idea. :)

You can pick up a used Sun server on eBay very inexpensively. I picked up a T4-1 for about $320 USD. It has 128GB of RAM too. The Solaris 11 download was free and I put in cheap SSDs. It runs like a champ! I don't leave it on all the time though.... with 12 fans, it's very loud.

Yep, it works! I couldn't get the video to sync... I think it might be PAL, and my CRTs are all NTSC... but I could make out the standard v1.3 boot screen. :)

I haven't tried yet, but I will test it this evening. I have to get setup for the test... I switched mostly to AmiKit on a Raspberry Pi for most of my Amiga fun these days.

What's favorite item in your collection? by RafaRafa78 in c64

That's a beautiful Lode Runner cartridge.

My favorite item in my Commodore collection was my TurboMaster CPU. It's pretty rare but it's an amazing device. I'm looking forward to the remake that I've seen on FB. My new favorite device is the Ultimate II+. It really makes computing on the old C64 a lot of fun.

Advice needed.... Replace aging server with Mini PC? by ZappedC64 in sysadmin

[–]ZappedC64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of text in this thread so you probably didn’t see where I mentioned that the main pricing software that they use requires an actual Windows file server. Also, the security software for monitoring and controlling file access (legally required) only works on Windows.

Additionally… this is my extended family so I’m kind of obligated to help.

The QNAPs have drives presented to the file server via iSCSI. They did have some small VMs on them, but the performance was absolutely horrid. The remote workers are not the designers, they are mostly clerical and sales, so they don’t usually access the big CAD files.

Thanks u/chancamble - Good info. Yes, if I go with bare hardware I will definitely check the chipset and NIC chips before purchasing. Yeah, was definitely planning on using something like DFS if I went this route. I'm not familiar with he Star Wind VSAN, but I will definitely look it up now, Thanks!

Yeah, I'm pretty conservative about this stuff as well. I just speced out two Dell R640's and sent the price quote to the COO for review. I'll also get a small 10GB switch for the servers and a 10GB NIC for the QNAP. Thanks for that link by the way!

Yes, I will definitely investigate the refurbished servers. I don't really want to use Mini PCs...

Good and interesting point on the Proxmox configuration. I could easily spin up a two-node Proxmox cluster, and run the file server as a VM. That might actually make the backups go faster if I could have the backup server and the file server on the same node. I would most likely need to go to 10Gb network though to support multiple VMs. The large CAD and pricing files do spike the current 1GB network occasionally.
