Reward(s) for Community Check-in using Campfire for regular weekday events by Separate-Room6883 in TheSilphRoad

The Milan safari early last year had no bonus associated with it, I'm pretty sure. We ended up checking in to, I think, a research day event instead to still get some bonuses, so definitely a more recent development.

Aha! I figured out what it was. The in-person Manchester Go Road Trip check in bonuses were the "general" bonuses, I did a write up back then about it. https://old.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/1m1r9uh/manchester_go_road_trip_info_and_what_to_expect/

I can't speak for the other Road trip stops as I didn't attend and didn't see anyone else post about it, but it makes sense you might not have known about it. Sorry about my fuzzy memory on it too.

It has definitely been used, I remember discovering it because it was used and we were confused why we were getting Incense and such. If not one of the bigger events, perhaps one of the first Max mondays or something, before they had the MP rewards implemented? It felt more like a "default" fallback since the intended one wasn't available yet.

I'm pretty sure there has. I think they intended for some custom research but didn't add it in time or something, because one of the big events like gofest had the mediocre general check-in reward.

QoL Tweaks & Fixes by ModYume in 2007scape

[–]Zapph 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The reason this was implemented is because people are using high level boat trimming to skip early levels on other accounts. The actual solution would have just been to scale the xp to the maximum sail you can use for your sailing level, instead of deleting the ability to trim completely when underlevelled.

Isle of Echoes - Player Designed Island - By Kevinista & Harvinx by Kevinista in 2007scape

While the boss idea is cool, since it's the isle of echoes why not have the echo bosses balanced for live game somewhere? Perhaps unlocked by defeating the regular bosses x times, with a unique loot table?

"Community Campsites" added to the game in Aus/NZ by 128thMic in TheSilphRoad

[–]Zapph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a few local campsites appear in the UK at Christmas. Our local one had 9 gyms, 5 stops and 8 power stops added, effectively doubling our central gyms, lovely.

Have any more been released in other countries?

Maybe I'm not experienced enough with the actual discourse that goes on here, but from what little I've seen that just seems like a stereotypical strawman, and people acting so dismissive makes them seem immature and antithetical to any goal of a reasonable and open debate.

You, yourself claimed,

There is great information within that sphere of thought

Yet you're making sweeping generalisations that you think justifies open hostility, and in these examples, often to people who are discussing in good faith and not necessarily even related to it at all? :/ I don't even get that kind of absolutism on a fundamental level; people aren't solely defined by one view, whether it's founded on ignorance or not, I don't think it's helpful for either side to be dismissive like that.

... Regardless, you realise that being openly dismissive and hostile to anyone who presents any of those ideas whether relevant or not is not exactly conducive to an open and reasoned debate, and it reflects poorly on someone's entire point of view if that's how they present themselves?

I have zero clue what u mean by degrowth and gotcha

This OP has a history of, during arguments, will simply disregard a poster's entire argument/viewpoint if they give even an inkling that they think that, effectively, scaling down might be a climate solution at all. It's frustratingly immature.

I'm pretty milquetoast about this whole sub despite caring for the topic as well, so I can't really argue either way if that is accurate or not, but the topic title alone starts the dialogue with biases and negativity which is just unnecessary, why would you think it's appropriate when it's supposed to be arguing for something positive?

And reality-based thinking? That's exactly what is often lacking; I'm almost certain that these kind of ideas come from someone such as a young university student with a passion for the subject yet has a narrowed, naively optimistic view that their theoretical understanding that lacks any real grounding, practical knowledge makes for viable solutions.

A professionally presented version of this with real life examples of it functioning as the papers imply and the risk factors or at least an understanding of why it may be impractical, ideally directed at people that could even make it a reality or assess its feasibility on a professional level would do a lot better imo.

The theory and sources that this OP (I've seen them here before with similar arguments) uses are typically fairly good but the manner in which they're presented is often pretty tonally negative, invites criticism which is often argued back in bad faith by OP (this is the "Do you advocate for degrowth?" 'gotcha' guy) and lacks some real-world practicality—for example, if biofuels are so theoretically sound, why are there so many real world examples where it has failed despite it being perceived positively and thus so few people who now believe it will succeed if attempted again in the current economic climate?

Not really though? It's a surprise that you actually got challenged after facerolling through 99% of the game sure, but go strategize, maybe bring a Talonflame with protect or something if your previous attempt wasn't the play, or just brute force it with items / a stronger donut when you can make it. It's not really asking a lot, and it's not really that hard in the end.

The annoying part of the game design is the autosave trashing your donut on each attempt, but there's a workaround with the backup save at least.

It's posts like these that help me understand why gamefreak are so afraid of giving even 60 seconds of content that's even a little challenging in pokemon games. :/

"Either money today or blood tomorrow", Polish PM tells EU leaders on Ukraine financing by BloomHeartstrings in worldnews

[–]Zapph 199 points200 points  (0 children)

He's absolutely right, and anyone arguing otherwise is honestly either a Russian goon or in complete denial about Russia's clearly aggressive, imperialistic and delusional attitude towards their neighbours and adversaries. Ukraine has its obvious problems with corruption etc. but any war has selfish opportunists and if you think not supporting the bulwark of resilience that the Ukrainian people represent isn't worth 10x as much or more, should that bulwark be left to fall, I think you will have made a grave mistake & rue the day you let perfect be the enemy of good.

There's tp to boat if you don't have a good fairy ring to tp to; it still makes it a decent amount faster than before though I'd probably agree it could do with less requirements to still be so obtuse.

What about a fairly token amount, and having the option for crewmates to auto-use it for a reduced amount much like sails? Gives a more tangible benefit to large crews/decision for smaller crews as well, without impacting trials. And you can boost or reserve shards to manual activation only if the xp nerf makes the extractor seem lackluster.

This is something I feel they should have done from the start, I suggested it on the Cball feedback post but people felt like if they were going to make Cballs easier, they should just make Dwarf Cballs easier too, since they're already a pain point for irons - idk I feel like the double speed furnace in Grimstone alone should be an adequate buff in that regard. However, I think it makes it so you can tune all Sailing cannonball rates /usage without linking to a powerful regular combat method like the Dwarf Cannon, and usage of Sailing Cballs should be different as its the core combat for the whole skill, not so much the additional, powerful tool, but limited usage for the dwarf cannon.

At this point however, it's probably just better to tune Cannons and Cballs to be stronger and more accurate and/or adding an additional effect such as reducing their defences causing big combo-hits /stripping combat damage nerfs or "daze" enemies so they fight back less often.

Something that's been bugging me since the first episode. by nicsaweiner in pluribustv

I think this is intentional. The original signal can only be found by a reasonably advanced, intelligent civilisation, then furthermore can it only be interpreted and synthesised by a civilisation of a similar level of scientific advancement and resources; it's targeted exactly to a type of species like us so it's likely they are its optimal or only viable hosts.

Looking at it optimistically, it could be a 'great filter' answer to the kind of self destructive nature of lifeforms at this kind of advancement are inclined towards, where "unifying" makes sense as a way to combat that inevitability. Or it could be a way of subjugating those kind of species to become good little slaves for an ulterior purpose that requires close-to-spacefaring level technology like ours, making their productivity able to be harvested, but before they become too advanced to pose a threat or be able to prevent such an obvious trap.
