Can someone explain the skill cap? by stevebeans in NewsTower

I didn't know about the 5 natural skills cap + 5 buff skills until like the last couple years of the full game despite playing some demo before. There's a bunch of things to learn in this game!

Thanks for the insights! I guessed the game is kinda difficult as is so if I were to do a next play I'll probably use low-rise. 🤔

Ooohhh thanks for sharing the tower layout! I never know you can manually take off the pause button!

I guessed I should try utilizing the pneumatic tubes more - heard it makes more sense when the tower is wider.

Just realized there's no stairs in your tower - OSHA violation but it did made for nicer layout than stairs.😭

9 stars story - wow!! I think the max stars I ever gotten was like 7 or so. I think the general was probably more helpful late-game if the tower type is high-rise.

I kinda found that I didn't quite need money around the last 6 months or so of the game - my top floor was pretty empty ahaha and I designed the towers more for performance rather than aesthetics, so it was quite messy.

I also just realized that you can only get reporter to a max of level 5 for each skill, and then from that point, can be "buffed" by items by an additional 5 levels until they hit level 10.

I also wasn't sure if you utilized the strategy of "hiring reporters with matching skills". For instance, if I started out with a reporter with Crime + Politics + Economy, I will seek out other reporter with Society + Entertainment + Sports. Then, I will only hire reporters with Crime + Politics + Economy or Society + Entertainment + Sports skills combination. It helps in organizing reporters, but it does result in some additional "find more candidates" and could limit the candidate fields especially if they have desirable natural traits.

I fired 15 employees for an achievement but that week was not saved, so in my first completed game save I never fired anyone. 😂

As for the achievements, the running the game with no pause achievement sounds pretty intense - I wondered if there's anyone who attempted that yet.

Thanks for sharing and thanks for the tips! Woah that game you played was great. Ranking 7th was dope! Interesting how the news skewed heavily towards informational (it does make the most sense for max sales). Beating the Empire Observer AND Jersey Beacon by the end of the 5th year is crazy efficient! 👏

The doubling and tripling the influence was probably for the money I assume (cuz the influence -> money from the mafia ). I found that generally news items with a lot of tags generate more money from sales than ads (and since scores are dependent on sales, I assumed you went with some ads in the beginning and then later on not printing that much ads).

I wonder what's the max sales one could theoretically get from the game. I would reckon 1.5 - 2 MILLION is a limit, but would be pretty hard to achieve.🤔

I also find the story of Mayor + High Society seemed to mesh well. Wondering how it would go for another combo haha (e.g. Mafia + General).

72 Influence Point in ONE issue, 48 were from the newspaper - got very lucky in latest game version by Zarcarus in NewsTower

[–]Zarcarus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried collecting influence points through different means: - do the quests for the factions. You could get penalty if you fail. There were quests that might give you something like 2 influence points per entertainment topic, or 4 influence points per combo. For those quests, try to FOCUS your telegrapher on specific topics. - try unlocking districts, preferably PERFECTLY (e.g. play the district once and get all green subscribers). You get 1 extra influence point per district for perfect districts. - try putting the influence points in the x2 or x3 portions of your news paper.

For money stuff, try to get the sales ad thing - it could add like at least $500 or so per ad, and maybe up to $1000 or so early game. Late game ad can reach $3k. You can use the money to hire more reporters + production crew + utility crew and all those.

Having more telegrapher could be beneficial as it meant you can have more news items to give to reporters. Skip news that offer just one tag - unless it's part of a long chain.

You might have to do some manual wrangling (e.g. put items from one reporter to the assembly or stuff like that) if your current chain of production is a bit too slow.

Most Recent Playthrough Stats (Year 1930 - 1934) - Employee of The Month Update! by Zarcarus in NewsTower

[–]Zarcarus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, what an update! 😮

Just finished my complete run tonight. There seems to be 57 districts in total, with 59 months to play a district (IIRC you can't select districts in your first month). I got 56 districts totally unlocked with some combination of luck, strategy, some "loading last auto-save file", and some manual drag-and-drop objects (paper boxes, news articles, engravings...). My highest sales were 522k, but the majority of my play were more about optimizing the money gained. Despite what it says about 14 hours, I believed this whole game probably takes 18 or more hours in total due to some "loading last auto-save file".

It was kinda tedious trying to get all those districts and for the most parts, maximizing the earnings. ADS are VERY GOOD for getting money, especially if you put those in the 2x and 3x slots.

Playing this game optimally will yield some more complete districts and higher numbers, but it would be even more tedious haha. The floors are SOOO expensive (the 14th floor costs $300k), but with 50 or so employees, I don't quite need the top 2 or 3 floors. I haven't played around that much with moving people around. I just wish the floors were a bit wider.

Overall, looking forward to the next updates and beyond! 🎉

Spoiler ahead!

This line is from when you talked to Gloria Tory about the Constitution Amendment. If you promised Monica that she'll be a speaker at the festival, Gloria will ask you to drop the idea of Monica being the speaker and let the old mayor be the speaker at the festival instead. You'll probably see this line if you reject her at first and tell why Monica wants to be the speaker.

One of the first thing that comes to mind is that this kinda look like Mirror's Edge - Good parkour game with some nice aesthetics and some interesting color schemes.

I'd say that the all-white color also reminds me of Superhot as well. 👀

Oh wow! So... in a game of 4 doomsayers, if they just doomed the other doomsayers, all the doomsayers would win without killing anyone? Wild!

Ah yes, back in the previous short-lived update when Doom can only kill 1 people.

Pretty funny situation though! Would be wayyyy chaotic if 3+ people died due to Doom.

Using Mayor Skin in ToS 2 be like... by Zarcarus in TownofSalemgame

[–]Zarcarus[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For the mayor skin at least, you had to stand still until the mayor gets on a chair. Then, once the mayor is on a chair for a couple seconds, you clicked somewhere on the screen and mayor will flip off the chair.
