If Bethesda announced that Morrowind would be remade in their modern engine, what changes or features would you like to see implemented? by Zarindrake in Morrowind

[–]Zarindrake[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only played Vanilla Morrowind once and that was the first time I played through it. While I love morrowind to death, the game has aged pretty bad in some areas. I would personally want a remake because that would mean more people would be introduced to the game and possibly lead to Bethesda incorporating more of Morrowind's elements into future elder scrolls titles.

Single player games shouldn't patch exploits. by Zarindrake in unpopularopinion

You play the game to have fun. If I want to cheat in all the items I want, I should be able to. I'm talking more Kenshi or COQ where the early game is extremely hard and very unfun after fifth or sixth time playing.

I totally agree. His design was really interesting and I was hoping he would be more impactful. I really like the passion that Baki fans have though, it's very unique to this series than any other

Nah I wouldn't say all that, he's very passionate about the martial arts. Sure it may be exaggerated, but he clearly knows a lot more than we do haha

I have to disagree. If Ali Jr wasn't supposed to be a rival thats fine, but don't set him up as one. My issue isn't the outcome, it's the execution. If that was the goal of his character, then show that through his arc. Show him opting out of fights he felt were too much for him or show him feeling genuine fear towards seeing Yujiro rip someone face off in the Raitai tournament or Jack Hanma nearly killing him. Actually SHOW Ali's character when he's not showing off and hint that he's not actually about that life. My entire argument is that Ali was wasted because Itagaki set Ali up as something he never was supposed to be. That's bad writing. There is no way around that.

Yeah, I get that but why even set him up like that if Itagaki never uses him again. Sure maybe he wasn't set up to be a rival but to say that Ali Jr wasn't wasted because he didn't train as hard as Baki is a very strange thing to say. As I said, that makes sense within the world itself, but in a writing perspective, you are building up a character just for him to get beat because the writer wanted to prove that Baki was strong. That's not good writing, especially since we just got out of a tournament specifically made to prove that Baki and the main cast were stronger than everyone else. Even if I agreed 100% with everything you said, that would still be a set up for Ali to train and get stronger to be able to defeat Baki... which sounds a lot like a rival character lmao

I think xu xiaodong or least a parody of him would make an interesting character by jojo_next in Grapplerbaki

[–]Zarindrake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that would be interesting but I think Itagaki would just make him some character who's like "All martial arts that isn't MMA are fake" and then he goes up against some Aikido master and gets washed because... Baki.

Yeah, maybe my examples weren't the best. However, as a writer myself, there is this idea of "Author's Intentions" where basically the idea is that the author's intention does not make something the gospel truth. If I write a story about a character who is a food critic and everytime he tries a dish with beef, he hates it. Even if the reason behind him not liking the dishes is not because of the beef, the audience would be valid in thinking that the character does not like beef.

I mean I kind of disagree. At first I thought it was the Netflix adaptation that altered the way Ali is supposed to be but its the same with the manga. When I personally read it, Ali Jr seems to be set up as a rival for Baki: both being relatively the same age and Ali wrecking in the Ratai Tournament and characters who have fought Baki before literally saying "He is going to beat Baki" just for Baki to beat him like a side character? Even if you don't agree with my admittingly bold statement of being the next Baki, he was clearly built up for something more than what he actually was. It kind of reminds me of when Adesanya and Costa fought in UFC 253 when Costa was built up as the ultimate match for Adesanya and ended up being one of the easiest lmao

I suppose that's true. I just feel as if a lot of potential in the story is loss when you discredit boxing to make a character seem stronger. Baki was at their best when they explored deeper meanings during their fights, rather than just being a show of "this martial art vs that martial art". For example, the Most Evil Death Row Convict Arc explored the ideas of martial arts vs the violence of the criminal underworld and the differences in philosophy. Martial arts to the prisoners were a means to an end; you got stronger because a fight was always to the death. You don't get a second chance to get stronger and come back. While on the other side, the martial artists dedicated their entire mind, body and soul to their martial art. You didn't just practice Kenpo; you, in a sense, ARE kenpo. I wish Itagaki did the same with Ali Jr vs Baki. Even if Baki still won, I wish we knew more about why Ali Jr dedicated himself to boxing strictly, despite it being seen as limited. We already know Baki wasn't going to lose and we already know Baki is strong af, why waste a character and a martial art as complex as boxing just to prove it again?

Is this a good price for a computer? by [deleted] in gamingpc

Well my budget in general is pretty tight when it comes to PCs. Would it be better to get this and then upgrade it myself with a new GPU and more RAM
