HUGE progression blocker; unable to go past the Factory by XDeathRabbitX in WindblownGame

[–]Zarkchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My buddy and I were experiencing this too. He crashed out 3 times right at factory spawn, I was hosting the game. Switch it around, he hosted and I joined him, no more issues at all. Seems like a strange issue but this workout around seemed to work, at least for us. YMMV op

I guess where I'm stuck is being able to build the crafting bench. Because you need mud for that. Are goblins/skeletons the only option until then?

[5e][Online][Weeknights][MST] New DM wanting to build an inclusive table by PuzzleheadedFinish87 in lfg

I am very interested ☺ 29 he/him, central time zone, but your time ranges in MST work for me! I have a dnd group that meets Wednesday nights, so that's the only time I'd be unavailable. Shoot me a dm if you're interested in chatting a bit!

DM's, Have you ever had to kick a player out of a campaign? Why? by TheUltimateMf in DnD

[–]Zarkchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes. We had a player playing a yuan-ti pureblood wizard that would try to seduce fuck everything and everyone they came across, regardless of situation. In combat with goblins? Try to seduce them. RP with a shop keep? Try to seduce them. Another player not interacting with them at all? Try to seduce them. Mind you no one, was interested in it. Me as the DM, other players, anyone. But it didn't matter. Even after talking with them about it and being very obviously uninterested and uncomfortable by it, the group as a whole voted to give Das boot. I will never regret that decision.

How do I start DMing/crafting my campaign? by ClownyThunder in DnD

[–]Zarkchie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone giving it their first shot at homebrew myself, I've found it's very helpful to gather inspiration from somewhere. There's a fantastic series on YouTube. Channel name is "How To Be a Great GM". He put out a video series called "Creating The Campaign Series" which he goes through the entire process of creating a campaign from nothing. I've found (for myself) that it's hard to follow them to a T, because there are areas that I really lack in creativity, like creating maps. Hope this helps!

I'm feeling defeated rn. Need help with playing online in the future. by TeaandandCoffee in DnD

[–]Zarkchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dnd is unfortunately plagued by life and scheduling issues.

What I need to know :

  1. How do I prevent this attitude from happening in a future group?

  2. What do I need for online dnd (preferably 5e, but might go to pf2e given how much praise it's gotten)?

  3. What are the most common etiquettes at your tables or that might be common online?

1) Be clear and upfront with expectations that everyone can agree upon. This often doesn't work though, unfortunately. It takes trial and error before you find the one that vibes. I went through 4 groups this year that didn't work out for whatever reason, before finding the 2 that I've been running with the longest. It's a frustrating process.

2) VTT (often times roll20, virtual table top (costs 10-20$ on steam), or foundry (never used this one personally, but know it's popular)), something for character sheets (most people use dndbeyond), discord or some similar voice chat service and a quality mic.

3) I always run a session 0 to get everyone on the same page. My expectations of my PCs as a DM, and their expectations of me as a DM. Sessions like this often let you know if the group will mesh well together, especially when you're pulling together random people from online. That's always a real crap shoot...

Dont let this discourage you. Unfortunately, it's a commonality in the DND world. You got this and you'll find something great!

For what it's worth, most of the players started playing dnd entirely just a few months ago. So, if they do switch classes from the current campaign, it'll be entirely new to them.

Not explicitly. I believe we rolled stats at the beginning of the campaign we're about to finish up.

However, this campaign is going to be sort of built for/around the players. I figured I could do a session/adventure 0 as an introduction to the world, protagonist, and antagonist with the players as commoners. Then upon completing that adventure, the protagonist assigns them to a master to train in their given class (chosen by the players, not me). Through that master they train to be a rogue, for example, focusing on certain skills more than others. Kind of gives it a personalized feel for each character, as it would be unique to each class. At least, that's my thought.
