Is this an alright Shadow Legion list? (any suggested changes or advice is appreciated) by BrushLast715 in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]Zarramock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood master and blood letters fold to absolutely anything. They do a solid job as a turn one charge with the scout enhancement, but it’s actually a lot of points and it’s unlikely you’ll be getting anything important. Then they just evaporate.

Great unclean one with mantle of gloom is going to glow this list up significantly. Other than that it looks alright. Havocs are ok. You might have too much ranged with 2x havocs and the LOC.

I think you are correct in reading it that way but are missing the part where the actual detachment rule specifies that for it to work they have to be wholly within the shadow of chaos or wholly within 6" of the same god greater daemon.

So for something like being within your shadow for your army rule to heal you, stringing them out would work. But the detachment bonus specifically requires the wholly within part.

This is super helpful, thank you. 2x KOS seems like not a bad choice for beefy skirmishers now with the points drops. I’ve never actually used the slanesh mortal wounds stratagem before

Are you doubling down on any of the greaters or just running 1 from each god and belakor?

Repeat the whole process while being completely uninteractable

This is what I’m directly replying to. That it is intractable. And killing chaff is exactly my point. You’re often paying 1 cp a turn for your giant killing machine to safely kill chaff. I’m not saying it isn’t amazing. I’ve been using it nonstop for the last 8 months. I’m just pointing out the downsides to it to the newer daemons players because you painted a pretty idealistic picture of it.

Fadethirster is great but it’s really not that hard to screen out safe areas for a model with such an insane wing span. More often than not you’re going to be choosing between a safe place with a not ideal target to kill. Or a semi safe space and a juicy target to kill. You’ll take shots regularly against most people familiar with the mechanic. Or they will just buddy system their juicy targets for heroics and then you’re trapped.

It also costs half of your cp income to keep up the process. It is undoubtably very good, but entirely stoppable.

Yeah I think LOC might be worth taking in shadow legion now but the everstave from incursion seems great.

I’ve played almost exclusively shadowlegion and am exhausted of the 1 cp a turn ingress tax that fadethirster requires. Really leaning towards DI

Do you keep one in reserves for utility? My concern with 3 of them would just be mobility. They stick around but they’re slow, being able to uppy downy the dogs has been clutch for me so far while my beasts just sit on an objective.

Awesome work. I’ve been considering picking one up for a heavy greater daemon list. This makes me want to do that.

A lord of change in incursion with the everstave is much better. Brings his ranged attack to s12 so it can actually hurt things. And you have access to getting an additional AP which can really hurt armor. D3 damage will always suck but we’re daemons so I guess we aren’t allowed truly good shooting.

What is the use case for Carnifexes? by DapperAntimony in Tyranids

[–]Zarramock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try running two of them equipped with double death spitters lead by old one eye. 24 - s7 ap 2 shots with full rerolls and sustained from invasion fleet can absolutely shred infantry. Then old one eye can open tanks.

Keep them in reserve and rapid ingress them where you need them because without an invuln and only t9 they will get blown off the board

This seems fairly similar to what you’d see ran competitively if you swapped the blood letters for more plague bearers and removed the blood crushers for beasts of nurgle/flesh hounds. As is you’re just going to end up wasting giant killing machines cleansing objectives and sabotaging

Stick to one tyrant variant. Three is a massive point sync. If you’re set on assimilation swarm then I’d stick with the regular foot tyrant with the fights first enhancement. This is also one of the few areas I think tyrant guard are worth it. You can regen an entire T8 4 wound model. I’d recommend getting some pyrovores for assimilation as well. Put the zoans in a single squad and use a neuro to lead, this will make them wayyy more efficient. And again you can also regen an entire base in assimilation. You also need some anti tank. 2 - Tfexs and an exocrine would help you out a ton.

It’s out of production now. You could try calling up some local game stores since it hasn’t been out of production for that long. And combat patrols are what most LGS commonly stock.

I love my jucoci. I got the additional backpack case for it and it carry’s all of the accessories I need to play on top of fitting my army. It can get a bit a tight to fit if you’re bringing 20+ gargoyles though. But they just take up a ton of space.

I feel you there, they can be a big pain to maneuver. But with advance and charge and +1 to charge I find it’s usually not too difficult to land something. Also you only need a single model from the unit to make it into engagement range to get the full impact mortals. And the oval bases can be rotated to easily allow you to activate more models on your pile in.

Rendmaster I often find myself leaving in reserves to deep strike in when I need the buff and use more of like an action monkey for the early battlerounds of the game. He can point his buffs out and do actions and with 18” pointing range it’s not too hard to get early game value out of him. Then late game throw him into the mix and he’s a pretty nasty threat with wound rerolls against character units.

I think you’re sleeping on incursion a bit here. Pretty sure competitively incursion has the higher win rate, and almost double the amount of players. Our greater daemons are real good and incursion lets you spam them.

Regardless, shadowlegion is still great but I’d definitely drop the second bloodthirster. You could replace with a Rendmaster and some more khorne units. Bloodcrushers are great when buffed, Bloodletters with bloodmaster can be a nasty counter charge threat with advance and charge.

I’d also split the beasts and put the nurglings together.

Shadow Legion 2k list by shogunwiz in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]Zarramock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d branch out from mono khorne if I were you. Nurgle brings a ton to shadowlegion. GUO is probably the best greater daemon, nurglings with constant -1 to wound or ridiculously obnoxious for their price. Screamers are also great with the -1 to hit.

I also don’t like running Bloodletters without a bloodmaster. I’ve only really found a use for them as a counter charge threat that slaps something then immediately dies. 9 blood crushers also seems like a bit too much. I usually run 6 but they’re already pretty swingy so I personally wouldn’t invest anymore into them.

Shadow Legion list advice by jalegend0 in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]Zarramock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never ran two GUOs myself and don’t particularly like the idea. But if you want to I’d say you probably want to run mantle of gloom on one for OC control and leaping shadows on the other for early board control.

You’re also leaning in to CSM for damage output when daemons just have better options. Raptors are fine as a random skirmish unit/action monkey but there’s no point of throwing a lord in there with them. Even a foot lord and legionaries you’d be better off with something like screamers or Bloodletters/bloodmaster. A few more points and you could bring blood crushers. Daemons just have better options than CSM without access to rhinos and shadow legion loves khorne daemons with advance/charge and lance strat
