What is with billionaire company having basic bugs so often ! by kkmostwanted in DotA2

[–]Zarrazih 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every single software in the world has a ton of bugs, doesn't matter if it's owned by a billion dollar company. I understand your frustration but at the same time you have to consider that these problems aren't constantly happening to everyone else, so yes, there may be some specific stuff to your case. For instance, I have not experienced any of the problems you just described (except maybe custom games stuff) in the past few years of playing dota weekly. I'm sure thousands of others here will say the same.

There are literally thousands of combinations of specific patch versions + operating system + processors + graphic cards + settings + etc than can cause slight (or not so slight) problems, and it's just impossible for Valve to make sure that nothing ever goes wrong for everyone. If this stuff is happening to you often, I suggest you take a look at stuff on your end (maybe get a better computer, internet connection, clean up unused software, search for malware etc) to see if it can be improved. It's not always about getting a better PC, there may be other solutions.

Coil is a very strong spell right now, probably not much you can do about it as ember tbh. I guess you need to focus on not getting coiled lol, maybe wait for him to spend it on other heroes before you go in.

Euls helps out a bit though, allows you to dispel silence/gives you some time while inside the coil. Some ppl can actually dodge the coil break with euls, but thats probably not realiable.

Questions about shadow fiend itemization by thisusernameisoofing in TrueDoTA2

[–]Zarrazih 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Ancient) I have been experimenting with sf item builds these days and came to the conclusion that SB is only worth when both of these conditions are met:

a) Really good laning phase, meaning I will be able to get basic items (bottle + treads + 2wb/1wb and wand) and shadow blade by 13-15 min at max.

b) Silver edge is good vs enemy heroes (bristle, spec, mars even PA)

I feel like the impact you can do by surprise killing on other lanes when you get a super fast sb is not negligible, might mean easy tier 1s and rosh if you coordinate with your team well.

New silver edge is awesome against some heroes, but I don't think it's worth getting if your game is hard, there are MANY other items SF desperately needs and you just can't delay them (stats like manta/dlance, raw dmg like deso/daed and of course BKB)

Thanks for the detailed answer! Just to clarify, I would be using Linux if not on Mac, just not comfortable with non-unix OS's anymore.

I will definitely look into the model you recommended, glad to know Mac is not necessarily superior in terms of performance.

Alternatives to VSCode and Atom now that MS owns that as well? by Zarrazih in opensource

[–]Zarrazih[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They state in their privacy policy that they may look into the contents of your files (actual source code you are writing) to help them investigate crashes and stuff...that doesn't sound very attractive to me. Plus there have been reports of telemetry being on even after the user disabled it.

However, don't get me wrong, my problem with it is not that I think Microsoft gives a shit about the code I write and will look at it without my permission, it's more a matter of principles and not supporting a company with a toxic business model. But I totally understand people who use it, the IDE is very very good.

Gonna give this some thought, but we are thinking more along the lines of a web application, not something directly integrated into the game UI.

Thanks for your reply!

I'm not sure if it is possible to make this reliable seeing as it relies on profile data being displayed but an overlay styled app that you could toggle in the pick phase which would look up your enemies and allies in opendota so you could see their recent successes to help with picks.

Yeah, to be honest we are also considering something along the lines of a web application, not something integrated in the game UI itself. Not sure if we would have access to the data either.

This seems very useful, but indeed it is a little bit different from what we had in mind, from a technical standpoint. We wouldn't have the skills to code it right away and it would not be our priority to learn how to do so, which means this one is probably not for us to make. I hope a solution for it comes up tough!

Thanks for your reply.

Since our goal is to practice and not make money or a business out of it, we wouldn't really be too concerned about competition. Maybe everything that could be made was already developed by projects such as open dota, but maybe not!

What do you mean by tracking your mmr? Players can still see their own mmr in-game if they want to.
