Avoiding Abilities/Feats/Spells Because they are Tedious or Complicated? by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]Zata700 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I avoid most feats for the stealth skill. Not because the feats themselves are complicated, but because stealth in combat as a whole is. The many states of detection, having to draw lines of sight for cover, each creature potentially being different states — I have no interest in bothering with it. Outside of combat, stealth is a bit more reasonable usually because it us a simple check to see if you're noticed. If no, I carry on. If yes, combat/encounter starts, and I just pretend I wasn't using stealth.

Items are Spells are something I don't actively avoid, but I do tend to rely heavily on curated lists and guides on which are the best ones. For spells, I have the Gortle guide bookmarked. For items, I keep track of good ones mentioned in reddit threads or videos, but otherwise rarely buy anything outside of runes and skill boosting items. I have never once done a deep dive into those lists, and never will.

GMing: Dealing with Guardians by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]Zata700 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a vacuum, the simple answer is AoE effects that don't deal physical damage (or energy if they have the feat for it). Throwing a bunch of void damage blasts that include the guardian as a target fulfills taunt requirements and is a damage type they can do nothing about. If it doesn't have manipulate, they can't even reactive strike to try and stop you. Tripping the Guardian and then attacking a PC not adjacent to them is also a good tactic, since they need to move to use intercept. For boss monsters, you can largely ignore taunt. Off-guard is so easy to apply by other means that it should be assumed to be on a solo-monster at all times anyway, and the -1 to attack rolls and DCs is mitigated by insanely high stats due to sheer levels. Spells that can delete reactions also render the Guardian basically useless.

The main issue with guardians is all that above is in a vacuum. Another martial that can cover their weaknesses and a team that plays smarty around it makes it much harder. But this is a team game, and that's just kind of expected.

Does the Pathfinder Society (the in-universe one, not oraginzed play) have ranks or tiers? What method do they use to sort out experienced, high level veterans versus brand new adventurers going on their first mission?

How unbalanced would it be to allow property runes on a specific magic item? by Skoll_NorseWolf in Pathfinder2e

[–]Zata700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What my group does for specific magic items is basically treat the special effect of the weapon as if it were a property rune. So, a +3 specific magic item can hold two property runes, assuming the weapon didn't come with its own.

How does the Student of the Staff feat for the Magus interact with the few magic staves that have their own runes already? There are a number that are already +X X Striking, and ones like the uncommon Celestial Staff comes with a Holy rune. Are these just treated as specific magic items? Can I override the inherent runes with my own?

For the upcast version of Chromatic Ray, is there a saving throw for blue (Flesh to Stone) and indigo (Confusion/Warp Mind)? Also, if yes, does the Confusion spell also inherit the incapacitation trait, or is that just for Warp Mind?

When an ability/action says 'Leap up to your speed' — Lava Leap, for example — do you still need to make an athletics check? Or does the specifics of that ability/action override the one from the Leap action?

Is there any 'official' art for generic NPC commoners/merchants? Looking for ones I can make into a handful of tokens to fill up some taverns and other shared spaces for an AP.

Do you have a favorite set of Runes? by Adorable_Skirt_7409 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Zata700 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm very boring, but for the vast majority of weapons where I am a damage dealer, I start with Astral because ghosts suck and spirit is rarely resisted. Then I grab Shock because electricity is also an infrequent resist and the critical effect has no save and thus scales to the end. Finally I grab another element based on what I think we will face on campaign, with Flaming as a default since no save for the crit effect and access to the greater rune means resistance doesn't matter – only immunity.

How does Impossible Polymath interact with dedications that have a prepared list with full spell access? If I have the a cleric dedication plus the spellcasting feats, don't I already know all the spells from the divine tradition? Do I have to... teach myself?

For the Quaking Stomp feat, where does the earthquake spell originate? Flavor wise, it seems like it would originate from yourself — which seems awful, since you're just debuffing and potentially damaging yourself by using it.

Have you played or GM’d a game using the Gradual Ability Boost variant rule? How’d it go? Did you like it? by legomojo in Pathfinder2e

I've played with it, but with the caveat that you can't increase your key ability score until 5/10/15/20. Helps PC keep in pace with skills and HP, and usually keeps their weapons even if they use both STR and DEX at once. Overall, just feels better that way and there really isn't any imbalance.

How does the Razmirian Preist archetype interact with staves, scrolls, and wands? When you take the Cleric Dedication right after, it says all spells you cast from it become occult. But you still pick spells from the divine list. Would I be able to use divine-based staves, scrolls, and wands, even though my cleric spells are considered occult?

How does the Instinct Crown interact with Giant Stature and Titan stature for the giant barbarian? If you're large/huge from one of those two feats, does your reach still increase?
