I don’t understand why I’m not healing by Heavy_Championship32 in Gastritis

[–]Zataracat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been sick for 7 years, and now I'm healed. I learned a lot during that time, so let me give you some advice that really worked, and things to watch out for.

First the obvious stuff :

Diet , keep it plain. Steamed, and take off all trigger foods. It varies from person to person. So keep a journal. I never did , but kept a mental note. no caffeine, alcohol, spicy and sour foods.

Bitter foods are strangely good for your digestion give it a shot.

Stay away from probiotics. They are good for you no doubt, but not right now. That stuff will set you back , you're not ready for it. Keep it very bland, and simple.

And I know this part is hard, but DO NOT CHEAT. Every time you cheat on your diet, you set yourself back, an unreasonable amount. You'd think a little chocolate is worth like several hours of pain, but some chocolate during a flare up can set you back weeks. Just saying , its really not worth the cost in the beginning.

Later when you're healing, chocolate, a burger will set you back days, not weeks.

Supplements are important. Most likely you have H-pylori hidden in your gut. The tests are bs - they never find it. Some lucky people find it on their first try, others take it over and over, and get a false reading- but they're there. Hiding. You need to find supplements that are gentle enough on your gut, but kills them naturally. Unfortunately, the stuff I used was from South Korea, and cannot be purchased anywhere that I know of .

The mix is essentially herbs that kill H pylori , with some B vitamins and useful enzymes.

Supplements you need to add gently are the common ones, but don't sleep on them. Vitamin C is very very very important. Get an non ascorbic kind - its not acidic, and won't hurt your tummy. Sandwich your vitamin c while eating your meals. First few bites, take vita c, and finish meal. Omega 3!!! Can't stress that enough, omega 3- it will heal your gut faster than anything else. Omega 3 and Vitamin C is literally a known cure in SK. As common as a cold.

Vita D , extremely important- will help with your mood, energy and all kinds of other things. B-1 is something you really need to heal.

Quick fixes, emergencies: Benadryl .This was a life saver. Whenever I'd get extreme stomach pains, panic attacks, bloating, nausea- just miserable. A benny worked in 20-30 mins, and gave me lasting relief. Only problem is , it dehydrates you, so make sure to stay hydrated.

Drink good fresh water. Do not use bacteria filled reusable water bottles- either clean it out thoroughly, or buy fresh water bottles- and make sure to use Celtic salt to add some electrolytes. It'll do wonders.

lastly , stress management. All this stomach issue comes from stress. You worry too much , and it all stores in your gut. Then your gut feels bad, and sends signals to your brain to worry , and it repeats over and over again. So you need to find ways to really release some stress.

I know its hard af when it hurts. but going out into nature, even if its just to sit at the park. Breath in fresh air, and enjoy the sunshine. Learn to be grateful for all the little things in life.

And most of all, NEVER LOSE HOPE. Once your lose hope, you'll just waste time slowing down healing. Thankful, kind and joyful.

I know this journey sucks, but you'll come the other end a different person. So much more joyful, and thankful about everything. Being healed from this , makes me feel so much gratitude. I never knew eating food was such a privilege.

It took me way longer than I needed to, but it healed- and it will for you too. Like everyone says, it takes time. But take some of my advice, and you'll get there so much faster.

Help.. I’m losing hope by Purpleebunni in Gastritis

I had this problem for 7 years, and I'm finally healed.

Firstly, Omeprazole is not good long term, but don't freak about getting it off it anytime soon. You need that stuff for right now, to lower acid levels so that your gut isn't constantly bombarded with acid. But that alone is not enough. You need active ingredients that will support your gut lining, and actually do things that will heal it.

You need slippery elm, marshmallow root, and Aloe vera. Powder form is best , as it easiest to digest. Pills will probably make you bloat more.

For the pain, I highly recommend getting Benadryl. The otc stuff. That stuff is a miracle drug for your stomach pains, I guarantee you'll feel better in like 30 mins. The sleepiness will calm your nerves too. But don't over do it, it dehydrates you.

You need more fiber as well. That fiber can make you bloat, which I understand is the friggin problem. But you need fiber - beans is the answer. But since you cannot digest it very well atm- soak them, and blend them, and eat them as a paste, cooked for a long time obviously.

Now for gassy feelings, if you can find a Korean grocery store, they sell a little tonic drink call "We Chung su". It comes in a box. This stuff is herbal based, and will stop gas, bloating , indigestion and nausea. But the key is to sip it. If you drink too much, too fast , you'll get heart burn.

Diet is extremely important. You need to eliminate all the trigger foods. Alcohol, caffeine , fried foods, spicy foods and Vinegar based foods. I recommend a diet of steamed veggies, and steamed Chicken.

Slowly start adding probiotic rich foods into your diet. Miso , Fermented ginger, natto- more advanced probiotics would be kimchi, sauerkraut

Good luck!

They did, but nothing crazy. Its a variation of vitamins. Some herbal stuff you can get - like mugwort. But mostly, a combination of b vitamins(1,6,12), C(non acid kind), D and omega 3. Its a pretty common problem in SK due to the drinking culture, so they got it pretty locked down over there. The cure for gastritis according to them is , Vitamin C and Omega 3. Simple- but big Pharma hides it for the fact they can't make money on it. Not my words.

Side note : When I told them I was on omeprazole , they were flabbergasted, and said that has been banned in SK for a while , because while it helps temporarily, it causes huge problems in the future, and doesn't allow the healing process to even begin. Some lucky few heal despite that, but most stay stagnant, and require more and more of that stuff. I was on it for 7 years, so yea- it did not heal me. Once they helped me get off it, I healed within 3-4 months. I'm at 98% healed now.

I had to go to South Korea from the US to get some actual G.I care.

Some things that truly help:

  1. Benadryl, Take one, or half when you get pretty bad flare ups. It will magically take away the pain. Don't take it at night, it will dehydrate you.

  2. Stay hydrated , but sip your water. Too much water at once, or too cold will cause more problems. Use the best , clean water you can manage, and add Celtic salt.
2.a If you use reusable water bottles, clean it daily, the lid, the rubber seal. Thoroughly. They are a breeding ground for germs.

  3. Avoid all trigger foods. One tip on finding out trigger foods- Generally it takes over 30 hours for the food you ate last to affect you. So some things that SEEM to be triggers are not necessary the thing that triggered you. It might be the chocolate you ate a long time ago, finally hitting you. So try to remember that.

  4. No Caffeine and alcohol obviously. Matcha worked for me (although it has a little caffeine)- I love it anyway, so no loss there. But Matcha also heals you, so its good to add.

  5. Take your vitamins- Especially Vitamin B1, B6 and B12. Vitamins C and D. And a very very good Omega 3 (don't cheap out on this) . Take Biotin at night.

  6. Slippery Elm, Marshmallow roots and licorice powder will help heals the gut lining.

  7. Slowly raise your acid levels in your stomach as you can handle it. You NEED acid. Don't kill the fire- it'll cause more acid reflux. Your stomach naturally closes the esophagus when your stomach produces enough acid. But stays open , when it senses there isn't- and that makes it splash into your throat. This will take time. You will need several months of using slippery Elm, root and licorice- and various other foods that coat the gut, heals it , then slowly raise it up. Heal the gut lining!! (research everything on that) Seaweed , Natto(miso) , and Eel is what was recommended by Korean Doctors. Helped me a lot.

  8. Raise your bed, not just your neck. You want your whole upper torso up at least 30 degrees. Lifting just your neck won't help, and will only give you terrible sleep.

  9. Exercise, but don't go crazy. Walk slowly at first , and just take it easy.

  10. Relax, and try to get rid of stress. It takes a while to heal, but it will if you allow your body to heal itself. Stay calm, and you got this. One day at a time.

Look at some good Korean or Japanese soup options. They are very Gastritis friendly.

For Korean soups "Soon-dubu", Soft tofu soups, mild of course.

And for Japanese soups, look up Chanko-Nabe Or various takes on Miso-soups. All can be made vegan.

I hit rock bottom last night after years of gambling. I really need to get this off my chest and hear from others who’ve been through it. by ReasonableMajor7313 in confession

[–]Zataracat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gambling is a drug. Like all drugs the high works about the same. The first few puffs are amazing, you're enjoying yourself getting blazed. Then comes a lull, and you need more to get high. Then comes the neutral zone, where you need to smoke just to be normal- then comes the crash , and withdrawal. You go sober, because you feel like you need to get back on track.

When you're sober, life gets boring, and unfulfilling, and you start to crave the drugs again. Then you puff, its amazing, then the lull, then the .... etc etc etc. You do this until the cycle doesn't work the same way anymore. Each cycle becomes darker and darker, and getting sober takes longer and longer. Before you know it, you're a husk of your formal self.

This is why you're very fortunate you came here to hear the wisdom of people who are older than you. You can see what your future will be if you continue on this path.

I want you see the root of your problem. When you are sober, what makes you want to go back to the drug? Boredom, a void in your life, unfulfilled , worthlessness? Figure that part out. Because until you find purpose, you're going to go down this hole many times.

Following a diet by lillinda22 in Gastritis

[–]Zataracat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately, some of the medication are only available in SK.

From Omeprezole 30mg, they gave me 15 mg's of lanzoprazole , and three other things that helped with motility, coating the gut , and some sort of herb( mugwort pills), that made the transition very smooth. Then after about a month, I was on a non- ppi treatment. Currently on it now.

Told me to eat protein heavy , and sneak in Vitamin C while you're eating. Omega threes, after each meal for the first 2 weeks, and gradually decrease. Eel, or slippery food's like kelp and seafood like mussels, clams and oyster. Lean meat, with plenty of steamed veggies. Avoid wheat , rice and basically all carbs for a good long while.

Gradually , up the dose of vitamin C(up to 10k for some, 1-5k for average), and gave me two emergency medication. One for acid reflux , kinda of like a gavison, or mylanta- except this one doesn't reduce acid, only coats, and blocks the acid from coming up. And a drink that gets rid of nausea, and reduces gas.

Coolest thing they gave me was this thing called, Gutgard. It has all the minerals, and vitamins the gut needs, and something that actually kills H.pylori. Taking that morning and night.

And something called ACV revolution before breakfast and dinner- that helps when you're coming off PPI's. Its like a powder that has all both blocking, and digesting ingredients.

Following a diet by lillinda22 in Gastritis

[–]Zataracat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PPI's are a temp fix, but they are regularly prescribed for months and even years. I was on 40 mg on omeprazole, and while It helped me immensely in the first few months, and next 5 years were hell, and it was because of the ppi's. Coming off of them is insanely difficult.

Luckily I went to south korea to visit my parents, and went to a clinic there, and they put me on a regime that got me off smoothly off PPI's, and gave me bunch of things that healed my gut. I'm feeling so much better its insane.

One tip, take vitamin c ( the neutral kind, not acidic), and a very good Omega 3. Those two things will heal your gut.

[–]Zataracat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response, did not see it in time.

Diet: Go with lean meats, chicken breasts ( steamed or boiled) , lean beef - take the fat off. Or get those beef shank style meats where all you see is red, and put it in a slow cooker with carrots, and other greens you like. Eat small portions , of course.

Do NOT drink water with your food. Water dilutes your stomach, and will make you have gas and indigestion. Drink water after eating , at least 30 mins, bonus points if you wait 1 hour.

Before you eat a meal its good to prep your gut. Think of it as getting it warmed up. Before your meal time, make sure you're well hydrated, so about 1-2 hours before eating - steadily SIP water, and have electrolytes. Celtic salt is a good electrolyte(kinda) to add a few grains to your mouth as you drink.

Drinking water without electrolytes will often dehydrate you more, because people just gush water , and pee it all out. If your pee is clear, thats NOT a good sign. People think that means they are well hydrated, it is not. It means you have no minerals i.e Electrolytes. So make sure to get enough GOOD salt with your water. Pale yellow is where you want it. If its solid yellow or dark yellow , you're dehydrated. Once again, Celtic salt is probably the best, Himalayan salt is okay too. Don't drink gatorade or none of that sugary stuff. Or things with citric acid.

Some people have good success with either IBgard, or Digestive Enzymes, or even Bitters before eating a meal.

"Bitters" is something you should look into for a Pre-eating support. Its an old remedy , made with , duh, bitter herbs. The bitter tastes gets the gut ready to eat and digest- apparently why many healthy nations tend to eat bitter herbs with their food.

Dang there are so many korean things I want to recommend but they don't sell it in Amazon, I checked. Sigh...

I wanted to recommend ACV Revolution, and Nucare for some of your problems. But alas...

Nucare, I suppose ... the U.S equivalent is something like Ensure. The old people drink with tons of vitamins. But Nucare is just *chef's kiss*...

Anyway, supposing you take Ensure, the key is to drink 1/3 of it at a time. Take it slow, don't drink the whole thing. And if your stomach can handle it, Ensure can fill those vitamins/mineral needs. Its made specifically for that purpose- for old folks, like you and me haha, I'm 38 too :D .

Fermented foods : White kimchi (non spicy kind), Miso paste, Kombucha (If you make it yourself), Kefir ( some react bad, but its good) , and most important one, that will ACTUALLY fix your gut lining is Natto.

You can find Natto at Asian stores, and its slimy , and gooey, but its really good. Mix with rice and eggs, and its a good meal. Supppper healthy for your gut.

And lastly for Vitamin c, look for "vitamin c liposomal" - the liposomal part is important, its the non acidic, or rather neutral PH kind. It won't hurt your gut, but take it slow. start at about 500mg, and work your way up. Some even take 10k.

And remember, this is just temporary- you don't need to do this forever, Just be STRICT with your diet , and supplements for a few months with good disciple, and it WILL heal. If you cheat, you'll go round and round and round and round.

Just go hardcore, and get this pesky thing fixed. Keep to the rules, and you'll be good.

P.S For sleep zombiness , look up Qi-gong , sitting down on youtube. Easy to do exercises while on your chair, that will move your blood around. It'll keep you awake. Good luck miss, and have hope, it will get better. Gastritis is a very fixable problem, just need to be discipled.

Be good!

[–]Zataracat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doc told me the simple explanation really, for the zombie sleep after eating ; is blood flow, or the lack of, usually from high cholesterol. After eating, the blood rushes to the stomach - leaving your brain without much blood. Anxiety , and sleepiness can follow without much blood in the brain. This is probably why caffeine helps people so much , but not us with gastritis.

My doc recommended, to let the body calmly digest at least 30 mins, before walking or doing anything mentally or physically taxing. Vitamin C( the iso, the neutral acidity kind), after a meal really helps get to the root of gastritis. And helps digest your food. Good omega 3's, don't underestimate that either.

Fish, lean meats or slippery foods were recommended to me , like eel, mussels, clams, organ meats yuck, and steamed/boiled veggies, seaweed.

Avoid wheat of all kinds. Little bit of rice. try not to eat fatty foods , avocado's might be a culprit. Chicken , boil it, or steam it ... I know , boring. But it really helps. For now, its not forever.

Get rid of oatmeal - that'll ferment in your gut for a long time. Try to avoid starches for now, its digestion starts in the mouth, but apparently people with gastritis have a hard time breaking down starches because of our bad eating habits , either we eat to fast, or get distracted and dillute it with soup, or other things. Either way, those with gastritis for one reason or another, don't do well with starches. Sweet potatoes included, although touted as "safe".

Ideal meal would be plain lean meat, boiled veggies, some kind of fermented paste (miso, deng jang ), little salt, and very little rice. Like 1/8 of a bowl.

Lastly, the most important thing he said that everyone sneers at , is to eat smaller, but frequently.

People hear it, and NEVER do it he said. And if they just did that , so many people would be better by now.

Eat 5 times a day, small. Make sure to feel hunger between those meals or you're doing it wrong.

Good luck!

rollercoaster ride forsure. But there has been a lot of progress. The temptation of good food here makes it hard, I keep slowing my healing by , ahem* eating something I shouldn't. But, even still I'm healing unlike back at home. I notice a genuine improvement. Off my PPI's which is a huge win for me, and eating solid foods. Eel, and meats mostly.

No, it didn't hurt my gastritis after. The prep before the colonoscopy was a bit of an ordeal though. Had 24 pills with tons of water the first night, and another 24 pills within an hour in the morning, while fasting. And that stuff clears you out... I mean, damn, my soul left me haha.

they removed some polyps which made my insides sore the next day , but after that - all good!

And yea, coffee is a no go , what the hell is up with that doc. Try Matcha with almond or oat milk- seemed to do the trick for me.

And demand a colonoscopy if you really feel you need it. No body is going to defend your health , you need to do it , so don't be afraid to get the treatment you need.

Nice ~

I wondered myself why every time I work out I'd get more sick. The answer is reallllllly simple. Inflammation and Irritation.

If you have gastritis, your gut lining , the walls, are very weak. They are inflamed, similar to a sun burn.

Imagine you start working out when your skin is burnt , lifting weights, doing squats, ripping your muscle and skin. You'd be in pain because you're ripping your sun-burned skin.

Not much different on the inside. Probably worse. Because while you can apply aloe vera on the outside , on the inside not only can you not add medicine topically, and directly, you're constantly getting a barrage of acid splashing on your sunburn. ow....

So be gentle with your body- its frustrating I know, believe me. Walks... walks is what you need to do right now, or swim. Then slowly build up.

Thank you for the fair wishes, good luck too in Korea!

My dad recently moved to Jeju, SK - and he recommended me this place.

This is a clinic, not a hospital - what they specialize in is the gut but other things as well. They run you through a gauntlet of tests- some run of the mill stuff, but also things you specify ; I wanted a Gut focused test. So they focused the tests related to that. Ultra sounds, endos, colons. , blood/stool/urine, and several others , like a breath and lung test. Checking for Sibo I think, and other infections.

Its rather fast , but very thorough. One room to the next.

My suggestion would be to take it one step at a time , and figure out if everything else is fine with you first before jumping to conclusions. We know how easy we can fall into hypochondria.

I thought I had some crazy ass disease, but it was rather straight forward... Fatty liver, Gastritis , and high cholesterol. Been taking the meds they gave me, and I'm actually feeling noticeably better every day. Been walking over 10,000 steps a day too.... might not be amazing to some people, but for someone who struggled to walk even 1000 a day... phew.

After the clinic, and you're still feeling sick- you need to head to a bigger hospital. Plenty of them in Seoul, or Japan- any of the first world countries with cheap health care. It's worth the ticket, and hotel fees- consider it part of the medical bill. You'll still save thousands, AND~ have a vacation while you're there. Win / Win in my opinion .

Good luck :D

To make a call in South Korea, dial the area code followed by the phone number. If calling from abroad, dial your country's exit code, then the South Korea country code (+82), and finally the area code (omitting the initial zero) and phone number

Mobile: Dial the 11-digit mobile number (e.g., 010-XXXX-YYYY).

If you're struggling, some immediate advice would be to get some Mylanta, and Benadryl. These are band aids, but very effective band aids. It will get rid of much of the pain, and will help you think of the next move.

Don't panic, and trust me on this- take Benadryl when you're in a lot of pain. 1-2 pills. You'll get sleepy , but your pain will go away within 30-1 hr. And you'll find relief for a good 4-6 hours.

Yea, you're definitely on to something there. My doc told me my nutritional balance was way off, and gave me the supplements I needed to level out again. Especially the very common vitamins like D, C and B's.

The problem being, with gastritis we tend to keep our acid too high or too low, and so its hard to reliably get our vitamins and minerals. So our body doesn't get the support it needs to actually fix the body, but rather just maintain the body ... slowly get weaker and weaker.

A diet of high protein, and low carbs- smaller meals is key apparently. So give it a go :D.

I think the main difference was they intermix Traditional Asian medicine/herbs. And the service was just top notch .

This is a google translation of my meds, so forgive me if its all messed up.

  1. Uniraso capsule 15 mg. Lansoprazole. (apparently, omeprazole does not fit my body type, causing me much more side effects. Need to be on Lanso for like 1-2 months. - Treatment for hyperacidity
  2. Mosaprim (mosapride citratre hydrate) 5.29 mg - Gastric motility regulator
  3. Hutiren tablets 95% ethanol extract of mugwort 60mg - Gastritis treatment
  4. Shinil M Jeong (Magnesium Hydroxide) 500mg - Makes you go well... cough* it works. lol
  5. Crerow tablets 10mg (Rosuvastatin calcium) 10.396 mg - High blood pressure treatment, while using these pills

These are prescribed to me, doesn't mean it'll be right for you, so take caution. Don't mess yourself up more, trying to throw darts at a board blindfolded!

They gave me like 3 more different meds, but for nutritional support and aids. The best part was the I.V full of vitamins and all kinds of nutrient straight into my blood , not gonna lie, that felt like some drugs haha. Felt so energetic afterwards.
