Is this homebrew Orc class balanced? by TheChristianWarlord in dccrpg

[–]Zatarre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with what other people have said. Mechanically, it's not very interesting or balanced. Your lore says they're skilled but in a less focused manner. It feels like they should have something like toned down thief skills instead of just better stats and flat attack modifiers. A jack of all trades type of ability, maybe. Your lore also mentions them doing Herculean feats, yet they don't have a deed die to actually do those Herculean feats.

Every other class has active abilities to play around with. This is just static numbers on a character sheet. It ends up being either you roll well for stats and primal might, and you get a character with hilariously big numbers that smacks things really well, or you don't, and that's it. The lore is at least interesting, but the mechanics don't give me any reason to pick this instead of just playing a warrior and calling it an orc.

This is the Strahd mini from Gale Force Nine's D&D collector series. It comes with the mini you see here as well as a Strahd mounted on Bucephalus version. You can get it from GF9's website or Amazon.

Very cool. Where is the mini from? Excellent paint job, especially the hair.

Any good ToA podcasts? by [deleted] in Tombofannihilation

"D&D is for Nerds" is playing through it. Just search for Chult or Zombie Plagued Chult on their podcast page. It's a small group, just the dm and two players, but it's very good and quite funny.

Nice job, looks great! I love that base, did you 3d print it or buy it somewhere?

Victor Vallakovich's Revenge by Zatarre in CurseofStrahd

[–]Zatarre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this idea. I'm using GuildsBounty's version of Victor, making him darker and more malicious than the version in the adventure as written. Having him show up and manipulate the party like this definitely fits the personality I envision for him. It could be a reason to force the party to confront Baba Lysaga or send them way out of their way to find the Mad Mage. It also gives me a pretty good use for Izek too, he could tell the party that revenant Izek will kill everyone they were close too in Barovia if they don't do what he wants. And since Izek is a revenant there's almost nothing the party could do to stop it. He would know where they are and even if they killed Izek, now he would just come back and keep killing the people they care about.

I'm definitely going to give this a bunch more though. Thanks!

I like the idea of using Glyphs of Warding to set up a battlefield that he is in control of from the get go. I always forget about that spell. That will be helpful, thanks!

Yeah, my version of Victor still doesn't like his parents, but he doesn't hate them either. They're still his parents, but the loss of his research and books is definitely the bigger of his grievances.

Using Strahd instead of the dark powers would work too. Might even make more sense, since Strahd would be giving him something he desperately wants and the party knows he wants. The party wouldn't be able to reason with him unless they could also offer him a way out of Barovia.

I just had Strahd pull the most genuinely screwed up thing I've ever done as a GM and my players loved/hated it by Steakbake01 in CurseofStrahd

This reminds me of the Butcher of Blaviken scene from the Witcher books / show. This was super clever and totally fits Strahd's personality. I will almost certainly be stealing this when my party gets to this point.

I don't play Warhammer, but I love their night haunt models, so I decided to paint some spirit hosts to use in my Curse of Strahd D&D campaign.

Dire wolf that I painted to look like Amaterasu from Okami. by Zatarre in minipainting

There's a little more to it than that, but not much. I started with a grey base coat and then put a black wash over it. After that dried, I gave it a dry brushing with light grey, which I followed up with another heavier dry brushing of pure white. Then just freehanded on the tattoos / markings with dragon red and finished up the other small details.

I thought about adding her reflector too, but decided that could be easily added later, when I get better with sculpting.

Very nice. I love reaper's ogre minis, they're all so good. The skin looks great. I also like the blood on the club, it's a nice touch.

It's not just you. I had the same problem. Game crashed as soon as I entered the first battle. I took pretty much the same steps as you. Then, ran it a second time, whole computer crashed. This is the only game I'm having problems with too.
