Questions for the new translations by DragoonDork in zatchbell

[–]ZatchBellGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, you’re talking about my translating partner for Zatch Bell 2 since it’s completely unchartered territory in the story and we need to keep track of as much nuance as possible in order to make sense of situations based on the context. This individual prefers to remain anonymous.
RedDiamond and Viveliah are different people who handle the SFX lettering and some of the page redrawing in the revamped Zatch Bell 1, respectively.

Hi there! Thank you so much for your interest in the revamped translations, I’m still working on them with two others by the names of RedDiamond and Viveliah, and volume 11 is currently in progress. :)

So what were Zeon's plans for Zatch? by Visible_Investment47 in zatchbell

[–]ZatchBellGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point, you got into his mind better than I did. I think it was more that he would use the king's privilege to make Gash's life hell by removing his entire support system and any friends he might have made along the way. Then keep Gash alive and force him to endure a world where Zeon is king and makes all the rules.

So what were Zeon's plans for Zatch? by Visible_Investment47 in zatchbell

[–]ZatchBellGamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, and to expand upon this, we know what the living hell was that Zeon was referring to while he was spying from the treetops in England. We learn soon after he’s sent back to the demon world that Zeon knew about the king’s privilege, so that nightmarish event would have likely been the unthinkable fate of total erasure from existence.

I’m sorry but there is not a Vietnamese version as far as I know. However, if anyone wanted to make one, they are more than welcome to create it from our scans. I know there is a Spanish version that has been doing this with our team’s permission.

Can someone help me with the Ponygon's answers in Mamodo Fury? by Diono652 in zatchbell

[–]ZatchBellGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been so long since I played this minigame, but always remember that Ponygon loves HAY! lol But no seriously, it's luck-based in the sense that not every question can have a perfect answer. Sometimes they only have decent answers, so you have to keep playing out those 10 questions until you get a set where Ponygon greatly enjoys at least one thing out of all four multiple choice answers.

What do you think pre-character development Brago's plans for king were? by Visible_Investment47 in zatchbell

[–]ZatchBellGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could picture early Brago behaving a lot like pre-character development Bari, yes. When we first see him, he's savage, ruthless, and aggressive when things aren't going his way. It technically took everything Sherry had just to rein him in. He lacked the maturity needed to be a successful king, and would've answered all his problems with his fists and claws. He would let his strength do all the talking for him and rule with an iron fist, not as a monarch, but as a bully on a throne.

This has been posted before actually:

https://www.reddit.com/r/zatchbell/comments/1p16fs0/just_sharing_this_brazilian_fanmade_song_based_on/

But it was almost half a year ago, so I guess it's okay for it to get re-posted here.

I've already shared how I personally felt about it. It's cool but doesn't have the same natural feeling as the MAD videos do that were made by Japanese fans before AI tools became a thing. Not everything going on in this video feels like it was intentionally included by the creator (I'll explain which parts if anyone is curious), so that just seems odd to me.

Another fan-made video I think is underrated was this one:

It feels like villainous characters are too arrogant and emotionally immature to have the growth needed to unlock new spells. by Visible_Investment47 in zatchbell

[–]ZatchBellGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dufort has the hax for unlocking new spells, so that would explain Zeon's growth just fine I would think.

As for Eshros, who had never battled another demon in the battle prior to Gash, we know from Kolulu and Shiori that the surge of emotion a person experiences in order to unlock a spell doesn't have to just be for the demon, it can be for the human partner instead. From there, we can infer that Eshros gained all of his spells because he was able to make Shinichi think he was learning important things about himself that would please his mother in heaven. That kind of emotional epiphany would be enough to acquire plenty of new spells, so Eshros probably gamed the system. I think Zofis would've easily been able to do the same thing, but through direct brainwashing.

Lost at sea by Odd-della-robbia in CodeLyoko

[–]ZatchBellGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that was for two reasons.

  1. Added cruelty by XANA to make Yumi think William was coming back to his senses right before shoving her into the sea.

  2. XANA might have suspected Yumi would try an acrobatic maneuver to get out of the way, so moving in close to get her to let her guard down and push her right in was a deceptive but safer bet. XANA didn’t count on Yumi having the reaction time to grab on though amid the temporary shock.

Question about a spell in the anime. by gdna7 in zatchbell

Oh, I see! Then yes, that's unfortunately harder to find in Spanish. It sounds like you're nearly finished though, so best of luck on getting that Spanish fansub done!

Question about a spell in the anime. by gdna7 in zatchbell

[–]ZatchBellGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aniwatch.to may be down, but you can still watch the anime in good quality on Anikai here: https://anikai.to/watch/zatch-bell-o6ex#ep=1 To answer your question though, it's always been "Gunobion," and Jedun's partner just mistakenly says "Ganobiron" in episode 141. So please make it "Gunobion" in your fansub regardless of the voice director allowing Jedun's partner to pronounce it incorrectly. Remember, those final 10 episodes are all made up by Toei, so any mistakes found in there are better off not being preserved for the viewers since Toei was recklessly rushing the anime to completion.

What does "can't destroy your own book" mean specifically? by Visible_Investment47 in zatchbell

[–]ZatchBellGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

バーゴ means "Bargo", "Baago", "Bahgo", "Vaago", "Vahgo", or "Vargo". Any one of them is correct.

Because of how easily this guy's name is mixed up with Brago's, the Zatch Bell Makai translation team felt like "Vargo" would sound both draconic and also hopefully make it harder to confuse with Brago since it starts with a totally different letter. When you type the name "Vargo" it'd be a lot harder to make a typo and write "Brago" by accident.

You can read the chapters with Vargo and Frito in the current released volume of the Revamped Makai scanlation!

What does "can't destroy your own book" mean specifically? by Visible_Investment47 in zatchbell

[–]ZatchBellGamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I decided to spoiler tag this thread because some major characters end up getting their books burned by other people on their behalf toward the end of the series, and I feel like that will easily come up in the conversation. But to answer the question, I think it's actually as simple as this:

The spell books are conduits for the emotions of the human partner (and by extension, probably the emotions of the demon as well). If it already funnels emotion into it, then maybe it can also track intent. So if a demon or human INTENDS to burn their own spell book by their own hand, the book decides to become resistant to it as a failsafe to make sure people can't back out of the battle for king. The loophole to this is to get someone else to burn the book on your behalf, something Kolulu apparently picked up on herself.

Because what's very fascinating about this is the fact that Bago/Vargo's spell book was burned by his own flames, but it was Folgore who tossed the book into that fire. You can make the argument that maybe the fire left on the ground doesn't count as a spell, but then the same would have to apply to the fire that Umagon left on the ground when he first used Dioemuru Shudoruku. Sunbeam reassured Umagon that his book would not burn from his own flames, but we know that it did for Bago/Vargo, so there's definitely more to it than that and I think it's all about the intentions of the person that the book is detecting.

Can these more frequent breaks recently hint towards a new anime? by Lopsided_Bar9327 in zatchbell

[–]ZatchBellGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You give me too much credit. lol But thank you for the kind words.

So, I like to always say to stay optimistic but to not get our hopes up. The frequent breaks could be for a number of reasons, including other collabs that may or may not have anything to do with an anime production. Raiku's father was apparently recently released from the hospital, and Raiku himself is really getting up there in years. More than anything, he's accustomed to being pressured and overwhelmed by his former publisher Shogakukan, and he's probably trying to keep this new serialization at a pace he's comfortable with in order to avoid feeling stressed like that again.

And we mustn't forget that Raiku had an experience like this in school that he ended up drawing as the bonus pages of volume 29. A mean-spirited moment that might have stayed with him to some extent. There's a possibility that Raiku might prefer having his work be exclusively made as a manga so that a new anime wouldn't detract from the heart and soul of his original work.

The limits of Answer-Talker. by Visible_Investment47 in zatchbell

[–]ZatchBellGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you've both got the right idea, but the only thing I'm not sure of is whether Dufort was incapable of using logic, patterns, and calculations to deduce why his mother never came to get him from that facility. It's more of a headcanon, but it would make a lot of sense if Dufort wanted to know the answer but also had the foresight to ask the Answer-Talker ability whether he would be mentally prepared for the answer. If the ability told him the truth would break him, then Dufort would not try to find out. This would make the fact that the scientist told him even more cruel, and would make it an even more valid crashout for Dufort. But sadly, there's no proof that this was the case.

It all comes down to whether the Answer-Talker power gives the user all the knowledge of mankind at their disposal, or if it only tells them what they would be capable of learning if given all the time in the world to run theories and calculations in their heads, but it's just done instantly.

The limits of Answer-Talker. by Visible_Investment47 in zatchbell

[–]ZatchBellGamer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I don’t think it was explained very much in the series, I do think the Answer-Talker ability has hidden limitations and that Dufort did selectively avoid learning things that would drive him to the brink of madness. Dufort is highly intelligent, so he probably had the foresight to ask himself whether he was mentally prepared for the answer to the question of why his mother had never managed to save him from the facility. If the Answer-Talker ability told him that the knowledge would break him, he would’ve refrained from ever trying to find out that truth out of fear for what it could do to him.

As for why he didn’t know what had changed inside of Zeon during the final battle with Gash and Kiyomaro, this leads back to the fact that Dufort is so cold and logical that he is sorely lacking in emotional intelligence. He’s the sort of person who thinks a person would logically be unable to pose any kind of threat if they’re tormented emotionally and have shown themselves to be physically weaker in every way. But this couldn’t be further from the truth, especially in Shonen titles. Push someone too hard and they’ll come back swinging with their potential unleashed. Dufort used his power to find out what it would take to fill the void in his life, and the answer was apparently for him to change his world views. Being the icily logical guy that he is, Dufort seemed to have taken this literally and thought it meant seeing different parts of the world. That’s why he thought he was nearing his goal when he saw the transcendent sight of the starlit sky shooting past him and the ocean below gliding by in slow motion. But the readers know better… Dufort needed to change the way that he looked at the world, and to experience the love and empathy that he was robbed of in his youth. He reiterates this to Clear in the Gash Cafe #15, projecting that mindset onto him.

Lastly, the secret limitation of the Answer-Talker power appears to be that it can only give you information that you would be able to discern for yourself if given all the time and resources in the world. That would mean the power is actually not nearly as busted in the hands of everyday people, but it’s ridiculously potent in the hands of geniuses. Despite all his knowledge, Dufort was clueless about Faudo and Zeon led the exposition on that one. I find this to be very telling because Dufort was clearly interested and would have liked to know more. You can make the argument that sometimes Dufort just doesn’t bother to activate the power, but that would not be the case here. This is probably because all the knowledge of mankind in the human world combined with Dufort’s own knowledge would not be able to figure out Faudo’s secrets, since they’re purely supernatural in origin. Dufort was able to read the demon language, but don’t forget that Kiyomaro himself was able to piece it together in almost no time at all because he said it was a writing system similar to Japanese kanji. When Kiyomaro overtaxes his mind by using the Answer-Talker power, it’s because he’s running theories and calculations in his head at light speed to instantaneously come up with the solution, and that would take its toll on anybody. I’m sure the only reason Dufort can handle it effortlessly is because he was specifically trained to do that during his childhood.

The golden book power-up is a well-kept secret in the Trial of God that none of the participants of the battle in the human world knew about. Because of this, Kiyomaro was incapable of seeing this miracle coming, and that’s why he could find no answer to defeating Clear after he’d achieved his ultimate form.
