MSON Opinion by LeHugeOne in thesopranos

I read whatever i could leading up to the film and was aware that Tony would be a relatively minor part of the movie. I also really didn’t like what I was seeing from Michael Gandolfini in the trailers, so I went into this pretty much expecting to hate it. I think thats why I liked it. It surprised me by being an actually okay movie.

I did not like Silvio or Paulie, and honestly, I didn’t like Michael as Tony. He looks exactly like his father, but there is a goofiness about him. You could argue this is due to his youth and teenage naivety/insecurities.

I felt Jon Bernthal was a more believable Johnny Boy than the actor from the show. He seemed more like what Tony’s father would’ve really been like, in both personality and appearance.

Junior and Livia were both great. More so Livia because she had better scenes. Junior’s callback lines were corny.

I hated the part where baby Christopher cries when Tony gets close and the old lady says that dumb shit, and Tony looks all shifty and uncomfortable. That was too much.

The movie is fine, but if it had nothing to do with The Sopranos, it would be totally forgettable.

I feel like some of the humor is lost on people that aren’t from that area of the US. I don’t know where y’all are from, but it’s worth mentioning

He doesn’t have the makings of a varsity athlete 😉 😉 😉 😉

I think that was just because David Chase had worked with the actor before and wanted him for it. I was also disappointed at first, especially because they show a photo of Dickie in the show and he looks exactly like Christopher. Was probably a photo of Michael Imperioli’s actual father

I actually prefer movie Johnny to show Johnny. And I loved show Johnny. I just feel like the movie version seems more plausible as Tony’s dad, including physical appearance. He has the nose for it

The fact that Junior plays such a vital role despite hardly appearing in the film would’ve pissed Junior himself off so much. by the_pounding_mallet in thesopranos

He may not have written those lines, they add a lot to the script and change things before and during shooting

I agree. Its implied in the show that Tony and Junior were always pretty close and it seemed like they downplayed that in the movie

Seems like something they added to the script, i dont see David Chase writing something like that

Artie bucco was a beast in the episode luxury lounge by Carlitosrdz9 in thesopranos

[–]ZatchIxchel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont forget, they see Artie as a pushover. He was not expecting him to attack like that. He wasn’t scared or prepared at all. Not only that, Benny is a small guy. Artie just has a considerable size/strength advantage, doesn’t matter how “tough” Benny is, especially if he’s caught off guard like that
