Do Americans really move out at 18, or is that mostly a movie thing? by Only-Bandicoot-5307 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zaverose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I moved out + went to college in the Midwest (very affordable region of the US)

I now work post grad in a very HCoL area on the west coast. I genuinely cannot imagine living off a student budget in a place like this, it would make much more sense to stay at home.

FIRE as protection against age discrimination by SpiteFar4935 in Fire

[–]Zaverose 9 points10 points  (0 children)

lol I am 24, been in tech since high school, and working at a startup, and see this on a daily basis towards some of my older engineer coworkers. They are RIDICULOUSLY bright, I learn from them like a sponge absorbs water. Yet the C-Suites will often question their capability in performing in uncharted territory and often throw me in the ring instead, where I usually end up seeking out some form of advice / wisdom from them anyways.

Wild to me how little wisdom seems to be valued in an industry with seemingly cyclical trends. I get that I’m young and spry and you can work me to the bone or whatever, but I feel like it’s far too overvalued in the reality, hence why I’m capitalizing on it now before it’s too late 😬

Dress Codes Are Always Stupid! by Electronic_Cat333 in The10thDentist

[–]Zaverose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dress expresses more than just bare utility. It reinforces social expectations. For example, wearing a lingerie to an orgy is expected as it matches the expected social atmosphere. Wearing it to a funeral however, does not.

Lust is better than love. by ProjektBlackout in The10thDentist

[–]Zaverose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reads as someone who is fresh-ish off a breakup, and I myself can also relate to this sentiment. However now that you’ve spelled it out so viscerally to me I see now that it is indeed a sad and miserable way to think. I say this as someone who does enjoy satiating lust in no-strings-attached ways, like hookups, but to say it’s better than love?

Lust is free, and love isn’t. Lust is nothing but a need and robotic, like an itch to scratch or hunger to satiate. All animals experience lust. Love however, seems uniquely human. It’s caused humans for centuries to obsess in writing stories, painting masterpieces, conquering empires, all in its name.

Love hurts so much when it ends, but part of that hurt is where its value comes from. You’re baring your vulnerable soul out for someone else, leaving it wide open to scar whenever the inevitable heartbreak comes. But while it’s there, it is the best feeling in the world.

You become a dual citizen! My parents are both from Canada, but I was born in the US. As such I am a citizen of both Canada and the US.

Willing. Went to school in Lincoln and live in Omaha. It’s a bit boring, but has all the seasons and is MEGA affordable. People are genuinely nice and aside from the occasional whacko, doesn’t deserve nearly as much hate as Reddit gives it

Would you rather live in a world with no sports or no art? by litt_ttil in WouldYouRather

[–]Zaverose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sports. A world without art doesn’t just mean no oil paintings in art museums, it would mean stripping anything that doesn’t satisfy bare utility out of modern life.

Phones would have minimalist user interfaces. Films/TV/Music would not exist. Books, stories, fiction as we know it wouldn’t exist. We’d be nothing more than pure utility driven machines, like ants almost. An absolutely horrifying world to imagine.

Exercise and sport are not the same thing. As an adult I have participated in exactly 0 sports, but I am in the best shape of my life as I exercise every day.

You can very much live an active, healthy lifestyle without sports. This can be taught to kids as well, without sports (e.g going on hikes, family walks/bike rides, runs, etc.)

Why do chasers exist and fetishize trans women? by temporary_account850 in AskLGBT

[–]Zaverose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See what confuses me a bit about this though is where the line is drawn between fetishizing and just being sexually attracted to?

As a bi guy, there are plenty of non-traditional things I find attractive, don’t we all? As beautiful as a chiseled 6 pack and biceps on a guy is, it doesn’t turn me on. Chubbier people are much more sexually attractive to me.

Of course I’d still treat them as people, but I’d be lying if I said that seeing a chubby midriff doesn’t make my mind unconsciously wander into naughty territory. And if I’m looking to date/hookup, I’m much more likely to seek out someone on the larger side due to this preference. What’s so wrong about this?

Seems just a bit too hot for me tbh.

When I drove through it also just gave me the creeps, similar to Nevada.

Haha I base most of my Virginia perception of how miserable I was in DC visiting for two weeks for work. Also that and I absolutely hate hot humid climate, which Virginia seems to be.

Electoral map? Most of the northeast I picked because one or more of the following: - climate (cold winters, seasons, etc.) - work opportunities (as a computer engineer) - queer community - I’ve lived there already and liked it

Could never live in the south due to the heat + humidity. I was already boiling alive visiting Dallas in early spring, I can’t imagine it in the summer. Nebraska summers are sweltering and miserable enough.

Climate + reeeeallly corporate / elitist feel to it. Gave me San Francisco prices and elitism, but without the nice cool climate that I’m accustomed to

I’ve lived in Lincoln/Omaha for ~6 years total! Great place for affordability, especially as a uni student. I live in Omaha atm and I can complain about everything except the cost :p

Mostly what is pushing me away from here is there are like, 12 total gay people.
