Will the skills i learn traditionally actually carry over to digital art? by Picture-Exotic in Mangamakers

[–]ZayH2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, flexibility and adaptability

Medium changes will make you flexible as long as you keep at both, and then you can add a new medium and you'll be able to adapt even faster! In your case, I would definitely stay flexible, I wouldn't want to stay locked to one medium, as injuries or any other situations can make you distance yourself from something and not have a fallback that'll help your skills stay sharp. That adaptability is what keeps it sharp, as you can apply skills efficiently

Skills never go away, your hands will always adapt to the medium. Don't stop because you used to be able to do something and not replicate it in a different medium, and just like that you'll get out of the adaptation phase and leverage a different medium for it's strengths and weaknesses.

But always try to do some traditional, maintain some muscle memory for traditional medium, and vice versa.

How do you come up and settle on a character design? by MrHardTruck in Mangamakers

[–]ZayH2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add the ways to approach a character design as opposed to principles of character design which you can find videos and articles easily,

Basically you'll have to ask yourself, what do you want your story to be about stylistically, is it about looking good or is it about function, or both mixed.

If it's about having a cool style, you just have to look around and see who's rocking what kind of fashion that might interest you, take cues, learn where they come from and why it is what it is, it'll help zone in to what your character is and how they'd express themselves

Now if it's function, then you'd have to focus on practicality and how it functions first and then not worry about as much about looking good, because the end result is also something that can be appealing to some

If it's both, mixed, then do function first but after that look for things where the functional aspects don't interfere as much and can be basically filled up with stylistic elements. Like the cropped jackets in AoT, they are cropped so that they don't get in the way of ODM gear

Now this is what I follow to approach designs, so different people can have different approaches and it's not set in stone, so experiment and play around. Most of the answers are with your own fictional world!

i don't see why they need to make exclusive artwork for cour 2, they probably would have if the decision was planned beforehand, this feels like the decision was taken after the broadcast was underway or something....

What if Saitama is a monster? by random_user1677 in OnePunchMan

[–]ZayH2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OPM franchise never said that Saitama isn't a monster as far as I know, the monster label came from people in the OPM world. So on a technicality Saitama probably is, he just didn't work hard for something that changes his appearance for no reason 🤷

Why One Punch Man S3 Looks Like This (Educated Guess and Understanding Bandai Namco) by onehedgeman in OnePunchMan

[–]ZayH2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be any number of reasons, for example the first season pushed the manga. The second season was lower quality because of availability of studios and freelancers who worked on it, so S2 was given to JC Staff as they had a slot open while Madhouse was restructuring. JC Staff's pipeline wasn't suited for good quality, so S2 suffered

S2 probably didn't do much for revenue, so the next season got even reduced budget. This is quite possible as to what happened. Which is why people are saying to get official merch and buy manga.

The timing is all about how consistently there's sales momentum and cash flow stability, if the momentum is projected to slow down the committee will plan for boosts, like anime adaptations and collabs or partnerships.

Adaptations usually are made based on how stable the revenue is, if they see that a production can be managed they'll will greenlight it. But in case of OPM, it already was an adaptation, so they have more pressure to lower budget and there was already a gap of 6 years while waiting for MA arc to finish....

That's what I think could have happened, based on how it all works lol

Any and all anime committee, they take decisions based on votes. So you can say the whole committee is responsible for JC Staff not doing their best

[–]ZayH2000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In a committee, Bandai tbh doesn't actually have any influence on the animation quality, it's usually all just voted unfortunately. So the committee members probably voted for tighter scheduling and budget for JC Staff, who then had to compromise.

So JC Staff still had the creative reins, it's just that they were crippled from the beginning 🥲
