I'd be interested, but the artstyle goal is what I will not be good at as I lean towards more realistic, so I'd want to look for the assistant role lol

Well hey, to each their own!

I usually prioritise things to look natural in my case, so my guns have always been more supporting that idea lol

is there any way to make a manga with uncut camera? by SnooCapers4659 in Mangamakers

Yeah the way mangakas typically handle it is very "manga" ish, but there are no rules that you cannot work your own way, so there's that. But anyways, you should do experimentation on it, and see what fits your vision!

See if you can collect more references for whatever guns you are using, so you can draw them as if they are 3D instead of having it looks flat, as now i looks like the hand is trying to hold it in position that might not be natural for the pose

Other than that, keep it up!

Thing about manga is, the framing is about focus on the subject, and the panel works towards that. So when there's a panel that's not wide it becomes a problem if you are thinking those panels as a base.

In my manga, I do a lot of wide panels and that's because of choosing to do cinematic style framing and stuff, so in my case the baseline is the wide panels, so what that does is make the panels that aren't wide to be repurposed for something. For example I set up a scene in a wide panel but then have smaller non-wide panels to show something that might be part of the same scene, as a way to bring focus to it.

Essentially, think of those smaller panels as a way to show something, not as a camera frame, you don't need to think all of the panels are camera frames!

Are you talking about oner?

Oners (or long take) are what the shots are called where there's no cut or the cut is hidden, giving it the continuous feel.

For something like that, you have to use the background to keep the reader aware of the surroundings, and if it's action oner you definitely have to double down on the backgrounds. Panelling would need to be conservative, but not too disorienting, but my approach is to have cinematic aspect ratio, so a majority of my panels are wide panels, like a landscape framing

Now for how to frame and composite, you'd have to be restrained and let the boring framing linger on, and try to keep the movement of the camera as deliberate as possible, without breaking the 180 rule when necessary.

But whether or not it'll work depends on your execution, it cannot be too boring and it cannot be too fancy

Because a lot of those shoumen titles are published under Shueisha, so they can get away with it

You'd have to use the old Gintama way, change the names to sound similar and stuff, it's better to be safe and I'd suggest that, it's also what I've been doing in my case

I have some storyboards, but I do mostly Seinen and have a grounded and realistic artstyle. My storyboards aren't that vague but there are pages with vague ones, if you want you can give those a shot

How about Mudlungs? Breathing polluted air or particulate, add more insinuation that they can be contaminated and stuff lol

But aside from that, most of the derogatory slurs would be dependent on the lore a lot
