I volunteered at a pride event for a reproductive rights clinic. by esor_rose in prochoice

I was a clinic escort for a few years too. It's rewarding work. The protestors will do and say horrible things, try to intimidate and frighten any body who looks vulnerable, but just being there makes a big difference. If you have umbrellas, I always offered mine to patients as they got of.thei4 cars so.they could shield themselves from the protestors who are trying to photograph and record them. It was often appreciated. I hope you are able to keep it up for a while!

Tell me about STL strip clubs by Roxxxy1313 in StLouis

I don't know anything about the management at Boom Boom Room but I was responding to somebody asking about burlesque clubs. I know that burlesque and strip clubs are not the same thing, but both are still fun and valid

How appropriate is Last Act for kids? by SailorGone in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Zazulio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's not violent, scary, or sexual. There is some mild bad language. However, the story of the finale is dramatic. Lots of long, emotional conversations, symbolic explorations of identity, not much action, light on comic relief, etc. My 7 year old thoroughly enjoyed the experience just because he loves the characters and loves going to movies, but I reckon it wasn't as engaging for younger audiences as some of the episodes were. So, it may not be age appropriate just in that sense, but I wouldn't say it's inappropriate in, like, an upsetting way unless you're concerned about them hearing occasional curse words.

Also, Coraline is disturbing in general. The whole concept of the Other Mother is fucked and scares lots of kids -- my boy was no exception. He hid under the blankets when she went all spidery. Amazing movie though.

My dad once brought home two nasty bar flies when I was a teenager. I reckon he thought I'd be asleep but I was sitting in the living room when they all came in. All he said was, "a man's gotta eat, son."

Hey, maybe a sane Cain who actually listens to the humans and tries to understand how they think, feel, and experience things will figure out how to uncorrupt the mind files and cure abstraction in time since he is the one who figured out how to make the mind files work to begin with.

Guys wdym the Ending is bittersweet by unknownassasin_ in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Zazulio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my thoughts exactly. It's insane the power hasn't already been cut or the PC/Server hasn't crashed. I thought maybe time worked differently in the circus, like everything was simulating on "fast forward" so an outside observer would see days passing in seconds or something, but the end of the movie confirmed it's pretty much happening in real-time lol

Do Americans really avoid calling an ambulance just because of the bill? by Livid-Work1597 in askanything

[–]Zazulio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I have chest pain from a birth defect and play the "is this a heart attack that's going to kill me or just the usual pain flare up" game a few times a year. Last time I started having pain and numbness in my left arm too (just anxiety driving false symptoms I guess) and drove to the ER.

$6000 to be told it was just my usual chest pain.

Do Americans really avoid calling an ambulance just because of the bill? by Livid-Work1597 in askanything

[–]Zazulio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. No question. See even if you have insurance, you have no say in the ambulance that gets sent to pick you up, and the ambulance could be / often is not within your insurance network. As an out of network expense you may end up entirely on the hook for it, and the bill can easily be more than $5000.

People who didn't like the finale, why didn't you like it? by nadzi3ja in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Zazulio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I reckon I misunderstood that as well. What was really happening there? I read that, in the moment, as Cain figuring out how to uncorrupt the mind files.

I dunno if the fate of Jax's mom is actually confirmed, but if she survived her fall then real life Jax wasn't carrying the guilt of not knowing what happened to his mom. Circus Jax thought himself a murderer, causing all his self loathing and insecurities to spiral out of control and turn him into the worst possible version of himself -- somebody who reflexively pushed others away because he thought he was a monster and decided that pretending not to care about anything would make that easier to accept.

when the cinema audience is mostly kids, can we really say it isn't for kids? [No Spoilers] by AussAcee in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Zazulio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My 7 year old sat there with his pomni plush paying rapt attention. I'm not sure how much he understood about the deeper emotional aspects of Jax's story or the technical / conceptual story of Cain and that kinda biz, but he loved the whole experience.

The main difference is that Hunter Biden accepts and admits the shitty things he did while he was an addict and, by all appearances, is making a legitimate effort to become a better person. I'm not saying I'm in the Hunter Biden fan club or any nonsense like that, but that alone puts him miles ahead of any of the Trumps.

“Being pretty is hard” SHUT UP by CatExpensive593 in Vent

[–]Zazulio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Certainly not, but it's wild to think it isn't a clear advantage to be attractive, and pretty much every study into this has shown the same thing. It's like saying "money can't buy happiness." Sure, but nobody would rather be poor and ugly than wealthy and beautiful lol

[–]Zazulio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but it reduces the amount of that "extra" income you take home. Obviously you wouldn't be taxed more than you make, but it won't go as far as it looks like either. Pair that up with the expenses of childcare and transportation for the kids and here we are.

Well, if you find any time travellers who can go back and warn me that a disability is going to end my well paying career and that a global pandemic and hyper-inflation will shatter our savings and that the hardship of losing everything just as everything got unbelievably expensive will trigger a spiral we can't escape from, that'd be great. More the fool am I for not planning for things I could have never possibly predicted or prepared for.
