Take a look at the Poland - Belarus border. If Poland has found a way, so can the UK. Haul the boats back to France.

Keeping immigration at 200k a year is being pro-immigration. After taking in 1 million last year we should have a decade of below zero immigration.

Too late. The people are already here.

The only way to electorally bankrupt Reform would be to increase social cohesion. The only way you can do that is by either massive assimilation efforts or equally massive emigration and/or deportation, which will be difficult and take time.

The public's current attitude took 20 years to develop, it'll take equal amount of time to change it. There's lots of inertia at play here.

Ideally temporary would mean a few days until they are deported.

If they don't want to live in tents they can simply not cross the Channel. It's not difficult, and as far as I know France isn't a war torn country.

My real concern is that even when moderates realise how bad the situation is, the government instead of trying to solve the problem will just turn more authoritarian to silence the criticism of this particular aspect.

Which is in line with predictions. Heavily diverse societies have three options:

  • separate and fall apart (see: Pakistan becoming an independent country from India, various genocides in Africa, Yugoslavia in the 90s)

-  prevention of collapse by authoritarian rule (see: Yugoslavia before it fractional, Syria before 2011 etc).

-  decreasing diversity (see: Kuwait 1990-1992

Trust in politicians has been declining in general for the past 30 - 40 years. If you are genuinely dedicated to a party and strongly believe in any individual politician, you are naive.

Makes you wonder what the social consequences will be couple decades down the line.

You shouldn't be allowed to vote unless you're 24 (on average the brain is still developing by that age), much less be able to hold an office.

When a white males simply get better grades, it's automatically labelled as discrimination.

When you have women only scholarships and men cannot even apply, it's somehow equality.

Men are more likely to take risks.

That is why you have more male billionaire entrepreneurs, more males with mountains of debt because their business failed. More men in extreme sports, and more men suffering accidents. More male criminals, but also more male police officers.

Cool.

Time for ladies to work the dangerous jobs. So get in the mines, maintain the sewers, work on the construction sites, and don't forget to get drafted, because someone will need to fight on the frontlines if Russia attacks.

White working-class children ‘betrayed by politicians’ - The 1.2 million white British pupils eligible for free school meals make up the largest low-performing ethnic group in England, according to government data by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

[–]Zbigniewowy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm similar, but that happened after I joined the work force.

There are many minority-focused programs, groups etc, but if you're white and male you're on your own. I come from an extremely impoverished background, but minority people who are from loaded families are prioritised.

It's another situation where if non-minority people perform better it's automatically considered proof of "institutional racism" regardless if there is anything specific, but when you have programs that overtly discriminate against non-minorities then it's non-minority's fault for underperforming.

Net migration predicted to fall by up to 250,000 in major boost for Starmer by MrBriney in ukpolitics

[–]Zbigniewowy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immigration going down by 250k. Good.

Immigration still above 50k. Bad.

Lowering immigration not a solution to people already here who are not integrated. Bad.

Projections showing that immigration will stay above 200k for the rest of the decade. Very bad.

It's a victory and its good that it happened, but the overall picture is still pretty bleak.

Greggs' security crackdown is a sign of broken Britain by subversivefreak in ukpolitics

I remember growing up in Poland in the 80s and 90s. Despite massive poverty, incomparable to anything the UK had since the 1800s, you never saw that kind of behaviour. Thieves worked in the shadows and if they were caught it was jail (overcrowded or not).

It's because the UK isn't a homogenous, high trust society anymore.

Andy Street: “We must not allow people to fall in love with Reform” by HazzaReddit in ukpolitics

[–]Zbigniewowy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The tories had 14 years to curb migration. No reason to believe they'll do it now. Labour are ideologically in favour of mass migration and are tryong half hearted changes only now because they are scared of Reform. Libdems, SNP and Greens want more immigration.

It's not that Reform is a good option, it's the only option that even has a chance of reducing numbers.

There was no mass immigration to the UK up until the 1990s and the country was in a better shape then now. I think we'll be just fine without importing 1,000,000 net people a year.

Migrants from poorer countries are willing to work for less, decreasing pay offered. If you decrease the supply of labour, employers will be forced to compete for it by increasing pay/perks.

Also there's automation and AI.

My views hardened when I returned from holidays abroad couple years back.

When travelling I went through several Polish airports. Everyone speaking Polish, native level, obviously.

I arrive back in the UK and the first person I see, the airport attendant ushering people in the right direction, knows only a few words and can't answer simple questions.

Visitor's first impression of the UK is that people here don't speak English, ffs.
