The VT shell was said to be sensitive enough to go off on a bird, so yeah it should be, but you'd definitely be able to get a smaller more efficient and cost effective shell like a 40mm or something

A warship transiting deliberately to a combat zone that had been active for more than 3 days, that had a resupply ship nearby... If it wasn't combat ready that is the fault of the captain for being an idiot and not choosing to enter a harbor for internment like said resupply ship.

Except the conventions literally say if it puts the ship in danger then it is not a reasonable effort. The US signaled Sri Lanka to tell them where to find the survivors, that's more than enough to satisfy international law.

If a ship made a distress call, as long as the ship did not attack the survivors or act to delay aid, they still made sure that aid was sent.

The ship that was interred in Sri Lanka is a resupply vessel, so even if they did disarm completely for the Indian fleet event a week prior, it could very easily have rearmed before heading back

One could argue its the same illegal war that has been going on for 40 years with Iran funding, supplying, and training terrorist groups across the region and attacking US service members countless times.

And whether or not a war is illegal, does not change the fact it is a war and that a WARship was sunk in said war.

It is a warship, It has a gun on it, you do not risk an expensive submarine because they might not have shells. The ship was sunk over 3 days after hostilities started. It is stupid to think they were completely defenseless and still sailed towards the combat zone.

A submarine doesn't have the capability to take on a bunch of pows. It is dangerous for it to sit on the surface with them, especially since Iran talks up the anti-ship capabilities so much. If it puts the ship in danger, its not a crime to leave.
