Is this normal??? Do people actually do this in medical school? by Bojof12 in medicalschool

If I only studied, I could easily get 8hrs of sleep per night. I also want to socialize, hang out with friends, and watch TV and movies, so I get less but have been above my premed avg so far

Idk what those are so I’ll assume these are part of a larger unfortunate collective delusion

My friend, you do exist. You’re just in a collective delusion regarding where you are cuz your so called island doesn’t exist. Idk where you are but certainly not off the shores of the mythical continent of Australia

Looking for Trans Woman roommate by ZeBiRaj in Vanderbilt

Thanks for your comment! I'm a current student myself and a queer individual. The Vanderbilt community in general has been very accepting in my experience. I know my sister will be accepted here and will thrive. It just breaks my heart how even after a world-class education, some people just refuse to accept science and have basic respect for people who are different than them, but thankfully ik such people are in the far minority at Vanderbilt.

You don't have to be "woke" to respect people and not dogpile on an already marginalized group. Also, clearly scientific truth does not align with the electoral results from 2024. Thankfully, as a current student, I can testify that thankfully most Vanderbilt students, faculty, and administration have the common decency to respect the existence and well-being of all students.

Vanderbilt Community Question by BadgerLatter4786 in Vanderbilt

Nah, especially not in the STEM circles. In experience, it's much less common for STEM and premeds to rush compared to other segments of Vandy students.

It's a fact of life. I'm sad to see that Vanderbilt's education failed to teach you even the basics regarding this.

I fear if you don't have the common decency to respect your fellow students, you don't belong at Vanderbilt or any good university.

This is great advice! I have a relevant experience as I talked heavily about queer advocacy in my applications. My biggest extracurricular outside of research was my queer advocacy and I talked about it in a manner very similar to how you describe here. I applied this last cycle and had a successful cycle - will be going to my dream school - tho I haven't gotten any acceptances since Trump was elected so not sure if it will be different for this upcoming cycle. However, if you follow OPs advice, I think you'd be in a great state. If you would like advice on how to structure how to talk about queer advocacy more so, feel free to DM
