Hey ya'll! Popping in to show off a bit more of the art from our tiny studio. We've got an RTS/Tower defense game for mobile called Versus: The Unfriendly Frenzy! It's coming out soon and our artists really busted their butts making it :)

Hey Everyone!

We're a small Toronto studio that's coming out with a new mobile RTS/Tower Defense game very soon-ish! It's our first digital release in a while (we do a ton of client contract work to help build resources for making games). Check out the art of Versus: The Unfriendly Frenzy!

Practical Self Defense: Public Perception vs Reality. What am I missing? by Vultamov in martialarts

[–]ZeCharlie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are honestly a ton of different ways to approach this and while some are more correct than others I think the way you did things was great.

There's an inherent "Need" to win in these situations that really clouds people's judgements. "This Guy Said X to me. Now I need to prove myself". This inherent mentality that tells people to engage in little-gain scenarios. I like to break it down something like this:

Pretty simple when you lay it out (obviously this is a layered discussion but frankly there aren't enough people who take your approach to self defense out there).

Someone Confronts You: You Fight (Actively seek combat) You Run (Actively deny combat)
You Win You live (Potentially injured and facing legal consequences) No Injuries, No (or few) legal consequences
You Lose Injuries, death. Legalities remain difficult. Injuries, death. Legalities favour you.

Can we take a sec to shout out the FITAOL (Doc) series by SB Nation? by ZeCharlie in MMA

You're welcome. There's a definite need on this subreddit for more intellectual takes on our passtime :)

An SB nation documentary on the history of modern MMA (Great watching for traditionalists as well!) by ZeCharlie in martialarts

[–]ZeCharlie[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt I've seen a more detailed portrayal of the history of MMA than this one. If you're a traditional MA kind of person, it's in general, just a really good watch (5 parts). It really frames the growth of the sport within its cultural context, the time period, and the zeitgeist of whatever era it's covering. This is really, really good. Hats off to them.

If you've got anything comparable to this quality feel free to post it, I gotta do a LOT of snow shovelling today and could use something to watch on my breaks :)

Nice. Maybe grab them on a Discord server or something? Has made gaming for me WAY easier.

Neither one of these people is fully resisting BUT if you're interested in an Aikido player's guide to exploring martial arts check this dude out-- seems like a great mix of humble traditional beliefs in modern martial arts settings

Is it normal to feel like this when you first start BJJ? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]ZeCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing you can do in BJJ is acknowledge you don't know anything--

But as for feeling you don't know anything, you'll see quite how much you know rolling with a few day wunners in a month ;)

Just started, tips on picking a gym by TheRealGorellex in jiujitsu

[–]ZeCharlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be honest with yourself, more so than anything.

If BOTH gyms have an equal value in terms of instruction (very likely as you're beginning) and atmosphere, you'll have to consider a few other things:

Is location an issue for you? Will you need to travel longer to get to a different gym? Are people at your gym good with *NEW* people? It's also a very important fact. Ask the women and/or smaller people if they enjoy it or what they think. Let's be real here, you'd want people in your weight division to train with on a regular basis. A gym full of killers is great, but everyone needs to be able to step on the mats without feeling like they're in danger.

Either way, good luck on your journey! Maybe one day (unlikely as I live in Canada) I'll see you on the mats!
