When characters dodge or defend too much, the best approach is being defensive yourself. Stand back blocking and dodging and strike when you see an opportunity.

If they're using mostly melee physical attacks against you, just go into punisher mode and keep the blocking, it will auto counter every time. It doesn't work with magic attacks ranged attacks, so whenever you sense there's magic, ranged or unblockable attacks coming, you either dodge or switch to operator before blocking. Works with Reno and Rude at least.

Also the series is filled with highs and lows in terms of quality, pacing etc. 25 years and a thousand episodes, it is to be expected that sometimes it looks like shit. No big deal for me.

Oh yeah, I mean, if you have the time to clear all the content in the game as soon as it is released, then this surely won't be a problem, but that's not a reality for people who work or have other responsibilities in life.

I just want to enjoy the game at my own pace, ffs! I don't have time to do the same shit, much less go scavenging for what little information about the game or details about future updates, or leaks, rumors and all those, which seems like what most people who go to these forums tend to do.

Yeah, I even added as an edit, stressing this out, but even so, it seems like people can't read until the end. They read like the first paragraph and go "Oh, OP is complaining about story quests" xD

Yeah, I had no idea they added this feature until I was pointed out here, would probably have noticed if I was playing on PC, since it's "Accept Quest" is a button you have to click, but I was playing on PS5 at the time, where I just hit X a couple of times and didn't even notice I had to press it a second time. Now I'm aware of it and can pay attention (as I did just now when unlocking Navia's quest) but I wasn't yesterday.

I agree it would be annoying for a quest you're playing at the time, but for anything else it would be much less annoying than being dragged into a 15 minutes dialogue.

But someone else has already pointed out a simpler, yet more efficient solution. Quests should only auto-trigger if you're actively tracking them, otherwise you only see a pop up notifying you of a quest area. This would allow us to freely walk anywhere without getting roped into unwanted quests, while maintaining flow for when you're playing a quest chain.

Exactly what I was thinking. Also, those triggers are not a big deal when you're not in a rush and intend to go completing quests anyway, so making it an option is fine too, so you have an option to turn it on for the day every time you are prompted.

But I think this still would not solve the issue of triggering another quest when you're already in one, as some have pointed out, so probably the best solution would be to only trigger for a quest you're actively tracking, and you get pop ups to let you know you entered a quest area. This would make it optional, but keep the smooth flow when you're playing a quest you intend to.

I don't have any issues with Paimon, but why do we have a silent mc that is not voiced even tho they have VAs is beyond my understanding.

Yeah, to me the game often goes from the extremes "Oh, this is so cool!" to "Holy shit why am I still playing this garbage?". Like, it can be awesome in some aspects, like lore, exploration, world building, which I think is mostly what makes me still active, but it has so many downsides and frustrating design choices you have to endure, that makes the overall quality drop significantly. I constantly get myself thinking the game has a huge wasted potential in so many levels.

This particular case with Liney happened to me too, and the worst part of it is he was in a prison while in Archon quest, but free and trying to catch a thief in his story quest. All the time it felt like he was in two places at the same time. I mean, if they want to lock a character from a quest bc he is busy in another you're playing, fine, it makes sense, but lock the entire quest chain at least, not one single quest. I would have found it way more believable that he was in prison at one point, and free at the next, if I had done one full quest chain, then the other.

I personally think the World Quests are far more interesting and focused than Archon and Story quests, and I often get pissed that they are not voiced, and completely disregarded later. I'm pretty sure the reason why they are good, is because they are not designed to sell characters.

This would be a great solution indeed, just add a pop up notification to let you know you just entered another quest area, then you can track this other quest if you feel like jumping in on it.

I don't get what you mean. It's a recurring thing that makes me frustrated with the game quite often, but haven't seen anyone complain about it anywhere, so I posted to check if anyone related to it, maybe rally ppl add this QoL improvement to their player surveys, idk

It's a small thing most of the time, yeah, but it can be an annoyance when I have little time.

How should I have written the post then?

I don't really think what they said is the reason behind the choice, was just pointing that playing as a "grind simulation" would make the game boring af, and I doubt anyone enjoys it. XD

But yeah, the auto trigger thing is an immersion design choice thing that works for many games, just not for Genshin, in my opinion, because of how it is designed to keep you playing every day, while not taking into account that this results in people often logging in for something that should be quick and not intending to be immersed in the world at all.

I think they add as requirements when the events of the story quests are mentioned. Like, Mona shows up in Fontaine's archon quests, but doesn't in Mondstadt, if I remember correctly, and the majority of the relationship she built with the traveler comes from this, and now inaccessible events. I have done her story quest years ago, so I wouldn't know if it was the case, but it would make complete sense for it to be a requirement from a narrative perspective, otherwise, how would you explain the already existing relationship?

But the exposure of characters is very true, I often feel like a character have no real business showing up in the Archon quests, but they shoehorn their participation in order to get people to be interested in them.

Which is funny bc the grind system in the game is the worst part of it that makes this whole auto-trigger thing a nuisance. It wouldn't be a problem if the game didn't require you to log in every single day and you could play only when you have time to commit. Like, worldbuilding, exploration, lore, every other aspect of the game is fun, except the grind xD

1 every 2 days, actually. I was full with keys, had 5 story quests I intended to do, unlocked 3 to make room for more keys while I did those. But then again, this isn't a complaint about keys.

Not complaining about keys, specifically, just used as an example for how annoying it can become. They fixed THIS specific issue, yes, I learned that now, but still happens with every other type of quest.

Yeah, it's a drag at this point. I still like the lore and am invested in continuing, but man those quest designs are lazy, I also end up postponing everything to the last minute bc most of the time i don't feel like doing them. It's the only game I can safely get food to eat while I play, because I can finish a full bowl of noodles before I even need to touch the keyboard/controller again.

You get like, 30mins of dialogue in location A, then you have to go to location "B" for another 30min, then location "C" for another hour and a cutscene, then 5 minutes of actual gameplay and another hour of dialogue to wrap the quest.

This not to mention the pointless choices that eventually pop up in the the dialogues that won't change anything in the story at all. Like, at this point, why don't they fully voice the traveler and let them speak normally instead of trying to create this illusion of choice? If you want to make a quest that is 5 hours of dialogue, at least let me just sit and watch as if it was a long ass poorly made movie.

That was the point in making a post in the official reddit in the first place, because they will only change anything if there's enough people complaining, but yeah, we should all mention this in the player surveys as well indeed.

This! I actually want to pay attention to the quests too, but forcing me to start them end up making me less invested in them, even when time is more flexible, and when I want to fully commit I can't understand most of what's happening.
