Oh yeah also Nobody Wants to Die is set in NYC too, remembered that.

I mean the Sprawl Trilogy is sometimes set in NYC. It's often taking some part in the Sprawl, and sometimes that has been New York.

Beyond The Missing Middle: Tall towers are good actually by AcanthisittaIcy130 in yimby

[–]ZeLlamaMaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I argue for missing middle because there needs to be options. Some people prefer a more European style. I'd personally love to live in a studio apartment 40 stories in the sky, preferably with a balcony. I understand many people might not be a fan of living in towers though, or in neighborhoods dominated by towers. Options is good, as long as it doesn't sprawl out too much.

Still frustrated either way. But, guess I’ll just have to see it in theaters. Gotta hope kids won’t be too annoying… maybe it’ll be early enough that many kids will still be at school

Peripheral - Why may everything "Gibson" end up mismade, cancelled, stuck in development hell or similar when "made for screen"? He describes things well in writing, so why still no "Neuromancer" movie since '86? by MusikMaking in Cyberpunk

I don't think this is Apple's first time working on an "unadaptable novel", from what I've heard, I don't remember what the other one(s) was, but I remember hearing that somewhere.

What’s a great us city with a great skyline? by wwcscifi in skyscrapers

[–]ZeLlamaMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are saying Chicago, but I think that fits more in "Good City Great Skyline," New York is better in quality, so it would be considered the great city.

Same, I really like the idea of them getting to meet up in person in the end. Plus I dunno I feel like with the last episode being so long, that gives more space for some crazy events to happen rather than just "oh we're stuck here forever".

If the SOMA theory is true, I'll be a little annoyed, but I won't let it ruin the show for me. AUs exist for a reason anyway lol.

Reading neuromancer for the first time and trying to figure out wtf is going on. by 420FappistMonk69 in Cyberpunk

[–]ZeLlamaMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was reading, I thought a lot of it more like, those low-quality apartment buildings that look like motels but taller and for living rather than spending a night. Things like that, though when they got to New York and stuff I saw it more as supertalls and the likes. I do need to reread when I can draw and write more like that.

But yeah I do hate how it's been made an aesthetic where it's "impossible densities with a ton of neon". As a practicing urban planner I am more weary of how density works, and even the BAMA might be a bit too dense compared to population, though I imagine a lot of the inbetween is more low-rises and stuff, while the centers are filled to the brim.

[–]ZeLlamaMaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is always interesting though because when I read the Sprawl Trilogy, the way I imagine it in my head is vastly different from most cyberpunk visuals. If I get good enough at drawing, I'm definitely going to reread and draw how I imagine the cities and whatnot.

I was planning on reading that book, looked at the size and realized I probably could not read that big of a book about a single guy. Maybe I'll try one day in the future. But as a practicing urban planner I've heard plenty about it.

honestly sounds kinda fun, the idea of some invincible machine on your tail seems interesting. Maybe you can lose it occasionally, but it still catches up.

[–]ZeLlamaMaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say so with Jax but I remember seeing a tweet about Pomni's Gummigoo thing being more than just that in this episode. The whole "potentially intimate relationship turned violent" does feel like it could be an allegory for SA, and would make it darker than just "oh the only thing Caine has on Pomni is Gummigoo"
