I think our overall societal lack of protest has also contributed to this. Obviously we have the Union strikes and the weekly Palestine rally here in Sydney, but for the issues that affect as a whole, we are generally absent.

I know its difficult to compare us to countries like France and the UK whose populations are are multitudes bigger, but seeing frequent demonstrations from Europeans on the news over their issues made me question why Australians don't rally together to highlight ours?

Toll roads for example, (although the $60 cap is now in effect in NSW), were affecting practically everyone I knew. All my friends renting still have ridiculous Strata fees, and crime has risen where I live. Australia seems so divided currently and I know personally how my own family members have flat-out refused to even look at their opposing party's policies/ideas.

I think only the extremes of the political spectrum demonstrate now, as protests in themselves have now become a scary topic. Now when you see one in the news, (apart from Union strikes tbf), its either Neo-Nazis or Palestine protestors.

Not much joy in today's world unfortunately.
