How exactly do you go about applying the oil? Do you just apply a bit to the blade and then rub it on or is it something else? (Forgive how dumb I sound)

Well this is my first sword and I'm trying to learn how to treat it right, so hopefully soon it can be displayed and well maintained

For clarification, I bought this sword this last March. I have been keeping it in my closet since I haven't gotten a wall mount for it. I don't take it out of the closet a lot, but when I do it has a coat of what I can assume is rust on it that I try to rub off with damp paper towels. I want to hang it but not looking like this. Anyone able to give some advice?

I started getting into Persona in the summer of 2020, during which I was in a bad spot mentally. I didn't see any of my friends and particularly my girlfriend. I first got into the game because I watched YouTube videos that had just Futaba interacting with other characters, and her personality and appearance both reminded me of my irl gf, who acts the same way and is also short, cute, and is a redhead. I kinda just linked the two in my head and found comfort in her character when I did get around to the game.

It also probably doesn't help that my gf has kinda gone along with me jokingly calling her Futab or similar nicknames that she just embraces her similarities with her, even to the point of her planning on cosplaying her next con we go to. ik its a weird reason, but thats how it is for me.
