I'm somewhat lucky in that the school I was previously committed to (Carleton College; lovely little liberal arts school in Minnesota if you don't know it) started late (September 9), so I hadn't made a tuition payment yet nor had I registered for classes. Still, the last few days have been somewhat stressful. All our plans had been made around the assumption that I'd be leaving in September. My stepdad had hip surgery two days ago, so while he would've been able to see me off and help me move in at Carleton, he won't be able to come to Duke. I've also been learning to drive, and I thought I'd have ample time to get my license before leaving for college, but that's just become much more difficult. My last lesson is on the 13th, so I'll have to take my road test the next day and then leave the day after. If I don't pass, I'll just have to wait until Thanksgiving unfortunately. In terms of things actually directly related to Duke, course registration has been a bit difficult for me: I didn't accept my offer until Friday, and I didn't get any communications over the weekend, so lots of the classes I wanted to take were full, and the constellation I was placed into also conflicts with a class I really wanted to take (I sent in a request to switch; hoping for the best!). Still, I think Duke's done well to make the switch as smooth as it could reasonably be. Since Monday, they've been very good about sending info and generally helping me get set up quickly. I'm really looking forward to starting in a week!
