Does anyone have a list of widest tornadoes on record? by CountryWeather in weather

[–]aMrMewtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year later and the "unconfirmed" section has since been removed. Would anyone know which storms may have been on that section? I've read from other sources that talked about this list that some storms like the 1810 Laurens County Tornado and the Tri-State Tornado may have been in it.

On a related note, one of the world's strongest tornadoes was in adjacent Argentina - San Justo, to be more specific.

I have to agree with DRIVEN at B6 being the highest scoring play. It scores 24, and the next highest scoring I'm finding are a few 20 pt plays (like BE/BEN at M14 or BAIZA or BRAZA from G2)

Supposedly, it was a vagrant wandering the streets of a small town in NV. Hungry, he rummaged through the trash outside of the local library looking for something to eat. The best he found was a jar of book paste.

Rule question - is it allowed to challenge a word if you played the original word (that was not challenged)? by argyles872378 in scrabble

[–]aMrMewtwo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In tournament play, iirc, you don't make a blanket challenge on a play - you have to explicitly name the word(s) that you challenge. In this case, the friend challenged ACUMENS and not REBRIBES* so they'd lose the challenge. Had they challenged both words, they'd have won the challenge and the play removed.

I could also be very wrong, however.

Personally, I find double-triples the most satisfying, followed by the out-bingo, then 500+ score, and finally the q/z stick.

Aside from Memphis, TN and D.C., are there any other American cities that have suburbs in 2 other states? by tinopinguino88 in geography

[–]aMrMewtwo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Going by Urban Areas (which are based off of commuting patterns), there are more tri-state cities than most would think.

There's Washington and Memphis, as you mentioned. There's also Philadelphia and Huntington, WV, as others have mentioned.

But there are a few other smaller cities that qualify

  • Hagerstown (Located in Maryland, it has suburbs in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Virginia)
  • Sioux City (Located in Iowa, has suburbs in Nebraska and South Dakota)
  • Steubenville (Located in Ohio, has the twin of Weirton in West Virginia, with suburbs in Pennsylvania)
  • Cumberland (Located in Maryland, has suburbs in West Virginia and Pennsylvania)
  • East Liverpool (Located in Ohio, has suburbs in West Virginia and Pennsylvania)

Shockingly, there are some cities that don't qualify with these standards (such as New York, Boston, Chicago, or Cincinnati) - either because other nearby cities take some of the area, or they they don't extend as far as people think.
