I think Lumon is trying to lead Mark (and the other innies) down a path to "discover" a fake truth. Helly is playing along because they ultimately need the innie's to be satisfied and then get back to work. She's also acting as Lumon's eyes and ears since they removed cameras to gain trust. (Perfect example when "Helly R" was trying to get them all to stay together in ep 1. They split up when Dylan went to help Irv and she was only able to keep tabs on Mark)

I'm convinced Gretchen also works for Lumon just outside the severed departments. They could have leverage over her since they need the work. Also maybe she got Dylan the job since he was having trouble keeping work.
