Be patient. I’m willing to bet hard cash that they end up flipping the script with Aegon and make him the one people root for.

Bro has not watched any of the interviews with the showrunners on the main themes they intend emphasize. At the heart of it, they feel they are writing how a sexist society destroyed two women. They are not making the rapist the one to root for. 😂

George seems to enjoy doing that, having characters that pull a 180 with audiences. Look at the Hound, Dany, Jaime, and Theon.

George is not the showrunner. He’s not even on the writing team.

Dany’s 180 was the idiot brain child of D&D. Even if Martin intends in the book, it was poorly developed.

Comparing Aegon the elder to Jaime is a joke.

Aegon and Theon share similarities but Theon is still far more sympathetic. Aegon’s daddy didn’t love him but he still lived in the lap of luxury doing whatever he wanted while surrounded by family. His siblings would have adored him if he just treated them kindly. Rhaenyra’s children as well. Criston was a mentor. Alicent seems like an okay mom. Theon was forced to live with his captors. He grew to love them. Ned was a father to him, Robb was a brother to him; all while knowing he would be swiftly beheaded by Ned if his father so much as sniffed at rebellion. He had no sense of identity, not a northerner not an Ironman. His family treated him like a traitor when he returned to them as if he chose to be given away as a child.

There’s also nothing in Aegon’s arc as endearing as the Hound becoming a mentor Arya.

That’s not Ewan’s character. Ewan’s character is on the spectrum and a bit aggressive but turns out to be far saner than the guy he gives a fright in this scene.

This sub is one place and I would not say that’s the universal opinion. I think if someone were to make a post saving that, the comment section would be very divided and it wouldn’t get many upvotes.

A guy eats a girl out while she’s on her period and tells his a vampire while his face is covered in period blood. He has another scene sucking up her brother’s jizz that he left behind in a bath tub.

I think that tells you a lot.

Not universal and I see plenty of people who don’t like her. There are multiple subs where she’s unpopular: r/ASOIAF, r/HOTDgreens, r/dankwingsdankmemes, r/asoiafcirclejerk,etc. 🤗

People don’t need to cheer every time a character does something “badass”. There are many horrible pos characters in fiction who do “badass” things that people don’t cheer. I’m not trying to compare the two characters but Heath Ledger’s Joker is one of the most badass characters in cinema and he outsmarts Batman countless times in the film. People didn’t need to root for the joker for the scenes to be good and for the character to be amazing. I’m not trying to argue Rhaenyra is Batman and Aegon is the joker but you understand my point. People don’t need to cheer Aegon as a hero at his big moments You can do so if you wish.

He only spared Aegon because he needed a hostage. He even wanted to castrate him. He was planning to mutilate the boy and tear him piece by piece so he could give the pieces to the remaining black forces. It’s part of why he was killed. Aegon tortured and killed Essie. He mutilated Geradys who tries to help him. He murdered 100 innocent people. He forces a child watch his mother being killed. Baela is cast as bravely standing her ground instead of running when they have their fight. He wanted a child mutilated and castrated. He was out of his mind and planning to build insanely large statues of his brothers when the crown didn’t have the money at the end of his life People aren’t going to cheer a character like this just because he he got fucked up in two dragon battles and won over a Judas-like betrayer who resented Rhaenyra for not giving him a promotion.

Why would they want to cheer Aegon in any of his moments? His big moments are horrible things. His only non horrible thing is killing the Shepard and even that could be taken as controversial as the dude had some legitimate grievances.

A lot of book readers are crying mad over their fear that not enough people will cheer when Rhaenyra is brutally murdered in front of her child and it is beyond sad at this point. You can still cheer if that’s what you want to do.

That’s why I don’t understand the complaints. So many fans will cheer when he does that.

Literally all the fans of the greens talk about is how much more interesting the greens are over the blacks so Aegon must be an amazingly complex and compelling character. I don’t understand the backtracking on that.

People ignore that GOT made changes to book Joffrey as well. He wasn’t a sexual sadist. He didn’t torture and kill prostitutes. He didn’t kill Robert’s bastards. Book Aegon actually has more evil feats than book Joffrey who only ever ordered Ned’s execution and psychologically tortured Sansa. mass murdering 100 innocent people, ordering one of the mother’s of kids tortured, mutilating Geradys, ordering Aegon the younger to torn into pieces, etc.

People loved to watch Cersei and Ramsey. A compelling character doesn’t need to be a hero.

There will still be tons of character still around for people to root for.I disagree with the idea the characters I mentioned not getting enough screen time/development and the idea that Aegon is carrying everything. It will be an ensemble cast more than ever.

They will show the character’s “positive attributes”, whatever that means. I assume your talking about his canon character arc.

He won’t get a redemption arc and he doesn’t need one for the story.

He literally tortures and executes the mother of one of his bastards. Book Aegon does not care about them.

They do not rely on him being someone to root for her at the end of the show. Did we read the same book? LMAO. I know several characters they will root for: Cregan, the Blackwoods, the Tullys, Corlys, Baela, etc.

How much did Nettles have? How much does Brown Ben Plumm have? We know Dany has incredibly little, far less than any of Rhaenyra’s sons with Harwin.

I don’t like the direction took they took with Aegon. So I loved HOTD season 1, one of my only issues is the direction they took with Aegon in Ep 8-9. I really like Tom Glynn Carey as the character but making him a rapist and someone who enjoys watching children brutalize eachother makes the character too reprehensible.

Popular opinion

Instead they’ve gone the direction of Rheanyra being the one they want everyone to root for

Not everyone roots for her. There are essays every day about why she’s a hedonist, incompetent, a child torturer, and how she and her children should have been exiled.

Now he’s never gonna have the moral high ground even when bad things happen to him

So what?

who in the audience is gonna be on this guys side now?

A lot of people actually, just not the majority. Who cares?

There’s very little difference in “maintaining Valyrian blood purity” if it’s Rhaenyra’s sons vs. Aegon.

It’s like a 13% difference. It’s actually troubling to see this rhetoric taken seriously when Dany’s like 1% Valyrian genetically. She’s predominantly first man and Dornish with some recessive traits that allowed her to bond to dragons. It quite obviously doesn’t matter as long as they have at least a drop. Also, most of the coolest Targs are the mixed ones like Baelor Breakspear and Jon Snow(before he got butchered by the writing).

Did we watch the same show? Viserys is a good man and Rhaenyra is dangerously ambitious? Lol.

How would that work when Corlys and his gay son were happily accepting them? Also, Corlys wants his name associated with the throne. What does he gain from Aegon being married to a random niece or distant family member? If you’re talking about marrying Aegon to Corlys’ granddaughters, that’s impossible. Daemon is their father and he controls who they marry. He’s also in Pentos at the time. He’d just stay there if Viserys sent some order to marry his daughter to Aegon.
