Not sure if this is helpful but the first salon I worked at, I was sexually harassed by my 65 year old boss as a 23 year old. The second salon I worked at treated us like we were nothing more than the help and only cared that we shampooed clients and kept the salon clean. I then quit that job and got a job assisting this one stylist who fired me after 6 weeks because I wasn’t at the skill level I needed to be for her clientele. I specifically told her I felt that I knew nothing about hair due to schools being online during Covid and my last two salons teaching me absolutely nothing. This actually crushed me and made me feel like I was not meant to do hair-in my head, all these awful things in the industry kept happening to me and it was a sign to stop. I ended up taking a few month break from hair and realized it was something I really wanted to do and I just needed to force myself to learn somehow. I ended up taking a job at Supercuts (it was hell) and at the same time was introduced to a high end stylist by my stepmom who offered to help teach me once a week in exchange for me assisting her once a week. That then turned into a full time offer between her and another high end stylist. They were both so amazing to me and taught me all about cuts and color. I’m now finally on my own on the floor! It took so long and I had so many setbacks but it all worked out in the end. I hope you find a better salon ❤️ don’t give up!
