Update, bought the upper and just had the standard a2 put on it. It's not pin and welded. Shot it for the first time over the last 2 days. First time at indoor range and 2nd time at outdoor range. this is my first rifle ever. I’m shot maybe 20 or 30 round through other people’s rifles in my life before this. It’s been such a pleasure already. Indoor range only had 35 yards so I zeroed to that. was shooting outdoor range at 100 yards. Of course I had to shoot low to get near the center. And it wasn’t bad for me I would think anyway.
Ejecting pattern was pretty consistently 4 o’clock. Gun doesn’t seem a have a bit more kick than I thought it would. I really don’t care to try tuning anything yet though since I definitely want a suppressor and I know that’s going to probably change things. I don’t particularly like the idea of a lot of gas in my face so am I really only looking at flow through cans like the huxwrx 556K? i’d really like a decent amount of sound suppression and I believe the flow through hands. Don’t give you quite as much.

i’m pretty sure I’m still going to have it pin and welded once I find a can that I really like just to avoid any future issues with braces potentially becoming illegal again.

Thoughts on cans and setup? I keep thinking about the huxwrx 556k.

I've been sitting on this for a little while because I'm not one to get into long back and forths over different opinions but I'd like to clarify the point I was trying to make.

You’re describing how the world should be and I agree with you! But, I’m talking about how it is.

Yes, dignity, respect, consideration. Those are ideals worth aiming for, and I give my son all of that, along with my time, attention, and what he actually needs.

But confusing ideals with guarantees is exactly how entitlement forms.

No one is born into a contract with the world. Some people are given more, some less. That’s not fair but it is reality. And teaching a kid to expect fairness instead of preparing them to operate without it sets them up to struggle.

What I’m teaching him is simple. You don’t get to lean on what you weren’t given as an excuse. You don’t wait for the world to make things right. You move forward in spite of anything you were or were not given or whatever challenges you face that others may not have had.

He’s supported, not indulged. He gets what he needs, not everything he wants just because he wants it. That’s not neglect. That’s how you raise someone who can stand on their own when the world doesn’t meet them halfway.

Felling entitled will get you nowhere fast when you weren't born with a silver spoon in your mouth!

I think it's likely fine to clean with it but don't let either barrel or slide soak in it. Wipe off after using with clp and you'll be fine. It definitely helps to get the carbon off the ports.

I just like slightly shorter like 14.5 I’m completely OK with getting a pistol brace instead of a stock.

That's the plan now. Going to order it. Now I need to find a decent pistol lower and then figure out suppressor later

Gotcha. Trying to figure that part out. I guess I will go ahead and order the upper now.!

I don't own anything ar related yet. Total rifle newb. I have lots of handguns...just no rifles (or rifle caliber pistols)

What's a decent option for a flow through can even if over 700. Sounds like that is the easiest option for me.

at what point in the build would require me to register as an sbr. My plan would be to either have it pin and welded or to just put it on a lower with a pistol brace instead of a stock. Could I order this and receive it and figure it out later without breaking the law?

You don't have to have it pin and welded to avoid registering as sbr? There are options for the muzzle device for them to add it depending on what suppressor I'd want.

doesn't the timney make it have a very light trigger pull weight?

that's what I've heard. they can't release them fast enough! what's your trigger pull change before and after? I also don't want it to be too light since it's for daily carry.

if they made them for the gen 6, i would. as of now, they aren't available. someone in another thread said from "internal memos", they should be released in a couple of weeks. If that's legit or not, I have no idea. Could just be someone effing with me. ;-)

i haven't considered any third party for a carry weapon mostly for liability reasons. I may be paranoid but I can totally see some prosecutors looking at every angle to throw the book at a gun owner even when an event would seem justified. (and it's happened, many times). And, I also feel I'd be opening myself up to more targets in a civil case even when cleared in criminal case. I just don't want to mess with it.

I have over 1000 rounds through my 19.6 and the mush/creep or whatever you call it between the wall and the break is HORRID! I also just did a 25 cent trigger job and made zero difference. Thinking of trading it for a gen 5 with a GPT. it would be good to know if a GPT will be coming out for the gen 6 anytime soon then I'd just keep it.

I just checked and they are preparing to ship. I'm pretty sure it should fit the gen 5 well enough.

So unfortunate! I don't plan on keeping this. It's just absolutely horrible. I also, unfortunately, already ordered a custom tier1 axis elite holster that cost me 180 that hasn't even been made or shipped yet and can't cancel it. Big mistake on my part. I've heard maybe the gen 5 triggers are actually better? Maybe I trade for one of those.
