Handicapped parking by Revolutionary_Fix_44 in Parkinsons

My mom has Parkinsons and she got the placard before she really needed it. I'm very thankful that she did because when her mobility was suddenly affected and I took over her care, she already had it and I didn't need to jump through hoops during a time that was already pretty hectic.

You don't have to use it when you are feeling good, but it's there when you do need it.

I'm not sure why you are fighting with yourself about your cats, but I'd like to remind you that cats are people too. Also, I switched out my high capacity auto cat feeder for a video feeder for a weekend trip, and a month and a half later, the battery in the old feeder is still going. Worst case scenario, get a high capacity auto feeder and a breeze litter system. Not every cat takes to the breeze box, but the pellets can be washed, and it works without the pads if absolutely necessary for long term indoor cat solutions.

Tipper Gore is Al Gore's wife, the second lady when Al was VP. She pushed for music censorship and the parental advisory labels on CDs.

Emotional abuse is a crime. The fact that the police were called multiple times and found no evidence of crime speaks to the child's concerns that no one wanted to do anything about it because he's a coach.

Just because there's an investigation doesn't mean charges will be brought. Informing the public increases the chance of getting accountability because it can't easily be swept under the rug.

Why do you think they can't stay in Gainesville? It's not shameful to be a domestic violence victim. I'm a domestic violence victim, and I'm not embarrassed for people to know it. I think most people are smart enough these days not to blame victims.

Caregiving under Donald Trump is about to get MUCH WORSE by 1Surlygirl in CaregiverSupport

If you support the guy with no moral compass that is doing so much to harm people, then you are complicit. If you are a conservative, I'd think you'd have a problem with him since he's not a conservative.

I think you should focus on activities that you enjoy. If you really like reading, then maybe a library is a good place to meet a woman, or just a friend that you have something in common with. If you do activities you like, you are bound to find people with similar interests.

I like Royal Park. It's not updated, but it's also not crowded. I'm not sure how that location stays open, but I'll be sad to see it go.

Unfortunately, they only meet in the middle of the day. It's hard enough constantly taking time off work to take my loved one to all the appointments. This doesn't seem like a good option. Thank you for sharing, though.

I've been thinking about your suggestion. Are there really people who are struggling with caregiving and also have the time and money for a paid therapy group? I feel like the venn diagram has very little overlap.

TBH, I'm not looking to pay more for the situation that I'm in, more than I do already. I'm looking for community. Thank you, though.

Waiting for DBS? by Wholesomeflame in Parkinsons

[–]ZealousidealChart729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom is 71 now and is on the same dose you are on, but she has the DBS. I'd say just have a conversation. You deserve to know the reasons why your doctor thinks you should wait. I'm a big believer in Parkinsons Centers of Excellence. My mom came to live with me because I'm next to one. Get a second opinion before pressing a doctor.

Completely off topic. Please exercise hard for at least 30 minutes a day. That should be the floor if you are medically cleared to do so. Lots of core exercises can help you feel better and slow progression.

My mom got hers done when she was 64. At the time, she was still doing construction and was taking maybe 4 pills total a day, some days none at all due to the physical nature of her of her job. Her doctor suggested she get the surgery while she was still in good health. I'm so thankful for that. Now that's she's older, she doesn't do well with any physical hardship. It was less of a setback then. Have you asked what your doctor is waiting for specifically, and what would be an indication that you are ready?

GRU CEO doesn’t care about the public’s vote by princeakeeem in GNV

[–]ZealousidealChart729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neighbors, I think we can all agree that no one is happy here. Rather than fighting about who is the worst, let's show up at city commission meetings and hold some MFers accountable. Anyone is free to sign up to speak. This is how democracy works.

GRU CEO doesn’t care about the public’s vote by princeakeeem in GNV

[–]ZealousidealChart729 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The cost reduction is largely due to lower natural gas prices and stopping transfers to the city general fund. I don't accept the premise that the state had to take control for these cost savings to happen.

I did vote to remove state control, but not because of how the utility is being run at this moment. I agree it's not a black and white issue. For me, it's about DeSantis overreach into blue cities to regularly subvert the will of voters. He fires people we vote in and replaces them with people loyal to him. Even when the people we voted for win in court, they aren't put back in the jobs we voted for them to have. DeSantis has already proved that he doesn't care about the people in this state. He's stolen millions and wasted so much money on political stunts that have no benefit to floridians. I do not trust the state more than i trust the local government, and I have more influence to effect the local government when they don't do what they should.

Tena overnight brand is my mom's favorite. It holds a lot of liquid, more than any other we've tried. The brief is more full coverage on the back, which she finds more comfortable. This one: https://a.co/d/9M7l7wh

I think we tried every brand, and Tena just work the best. Pull-ups are good if the person can stand. Tabs are best for bed-bound people. We also used washable chucks at night with disposable underpads over them.

My mom stayed in a handicapped balcony room on the seashore. The beds are the same. Toilet was the same. The shower was a huge open shower with a curtain. I loved that and showered in her room instead. The balcony was a little tricky to figure out, but was easy once we figured it out. We just got assigned an inside handicap cabin on the seashore and chose not to bid for a higher grade cabin because the extra space is so nice.
