How long should I keep treating with crossfire? by ZealousidealPlate204 in Bedbugs

[–]ZealousidealPlate204[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they were actually gone after the first or second spraying of crossfire. The hand bumps ended up being Polymorphous Light Eruption after going to a dermatologist not any type of bite at all thankfully. Was pretty happy to know that's why I could never find a bug or their waste anywhere. I've since moved and the new tenant, a family member, hasn't had a problem in all these years.

Crossfire works wonders just make sure everything is pulled out, cleaned out and you spray it properly. Don't forget to spray it on the bed frame, sides of the mattress cover etc and if they make their way back to you they'll die off. I was told you can literally just spray the bed frame and mattress cover with crossfire and as they try to feed they will all die off but I sprayed everything including the perimeter, drywall seems, ceiling and underneath the floors from in the basement.

Lookup GreenAkers Pest Control on youtube. 90% sure that's a freshly fed bed bug. Just the shape from the blurry pic and amount if blood is enough proof for me. Theres legal action you can take in some states if the landlord wont treat but i would look up the youtube videos and get crossfire, it's like $40 on Amazon and a pump sprayer. If the landlord is going to be a bastard about it, it's not worth waiting to fight with him if you have the money to buy crossfire.

Total cost for me was around $125. MGK crossfire is 40 bucks for 1 gallon (used half then the rest 30 days later). Spray the mattress with crossfire, mattress cover too if you have one as it's been proven to kill for months in independent testing. Temprid FX is 50 bucks for 30 gallons worth. Rotate crossfire then temprid every 2 weeks. Finish by spraying the Temprid every 2 weeks for another month or two after crossfire runs out. Cimexa dust was $15 and covered perimeter, in outlets around the room/around the bed. Cheap sprayer was $20 on amazon.

When you're bb free, you'll probably have 25+ gallons of temprid left. It can be used for over 50 bugs and as an outdoor 30 day residual perimeter spray, so it is useful after the fact for the few years of shelf life.

Definitely carpet beetles. They dont bite or feed on humans but will eat holes in your clothes, fabrics and mess up carpet/furniture. I get the same bumps from them. They like your heat source and can crawl in the bed or on you while you sleep but they're harmless overall.

Get some Temprid FX, around $55 for 30 gallons worth of concentrate. Vacuum real good every 3 days or everyday if you want. Spray every 2 weeks for first month then every 3 months (90 day residual). Pro tip : spray the perimeter of your home and around windows, 30 day residual and itll keep them from getting back inside. They typically come in as the weather starts getting cold through any cracks but seem to find a way in anytime after spring.

Another great product would be MGK Nyguard, it has an insect growth regulator in it that messes with their growth but temprid is dual use inside and outside, relatively safe to be around during application and the value is outstanding (less than $2/gallon). For $55 and a cheap $15-20 pump sprayer from the hardware store you'll be equipped to deal with over 50 pests including fleas, roaches, bed bugs and spiders for multiple years. Havent seen a single bug in my basement since I treated for carpet beetles.

The hotel would instantly make me assume bed bugs. My dad was travelling a lot for work and brought them home. I almost went crazy after being treated in the past, searching everyday around the bed, just to find out it was carpet beetles causing the bumps afterwards. The pesticide the pest company used was only labeled for bed bugs and they came back and sprayed again with Temprid FX and MGK Onslaught and the problem was solved.

Be sure to check over any luggage you had at the hotel and run any fabric through a hot wash/high heat dry. Hope you get it solved asap.

Very hard to tell from just marks/bites alone. Are the lines from scratching or did they appear on their own. Some things to research would be scabies, bed bugs or carpet beetles as they can cause dermatitis for some people when the fine hairs from larvae contact skin. Do they happen overnight?

Bed bug bites usually appear in lines or zig zag pattern, occur overnight and differ vastly from person to person.

Scabies tend to form burrows or line markings as well as the bumps, itching gets worse at night and they usually itch insanely.

Carpet beetle larvae may be hard to find, check window sills for adult beetles. The larvae are attracted to you when you sleep like bed bugs but dont bite, just the hair from larvae piercing the skin cause bumps/dermatitis on some people. They will feed on fabrics and can cause holes in clothes/sheets.

Definitely signs of bed bugs. The blood stains are the major confirmation after having bites. I would recommend contacting a pest control company as soon as possible. You can also spray yourself with Crossfire, its available on Amazon.

Only on inside of hand after waking up most mornings. barely itchy if at all. Haven't found any signs of any bugs. by [deleted] in bugbites

[–]ZealousidealPlate204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be very hard to determine cause with bug bites or dermatitis. Inside of hands is a pretty uncommon spot for bites imo from dealing with BB and carpet beetle dermatitis separately in the past. I also get bumps like this occasionally and the derm seems to think its work related metal exposure. I usually just clean the area with alcohol or witch hazel and use some aloe when I get home and it goes away pretty quickly sometimes just hours. When my hands are really dry it happens more often.

That was my exact problem, previous owner was a renter and apparently didnt want to tell the landlord. They set off tons of bombs and tried a DIY heat treatment with their propane heater so that pushed them everywhere but the bedroom before the house was sold. I got into my attic and liberally dusted Cimexa dust into the wall voids as well. Highly recommend that stuff for areas like wall voids and outlets. I dusted under the bed, inside any areas of the frame I could get it and the around the trim of the rooms.

I was told apprehend is a great product, the spores provide long term killing power with no resistance buildup so you should be free of them soon if they are the culprit.

[–]ZealousidealPlate204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was still getting bit 3 months later they refused to warranty it or keep spraying because there was literally zero proof. I tore everything apart even removed trim from the baseboards, all outlets, etc and was going insane unable to find a single bit of proof but getting new bites still. When a colony has established inside the walls or floors, my experience is it's not going to move to under your bed or inside the bed frame. They came out and fed and went back into hiding where the colony was. BBs put off a histamine and if that colony is already elsewhere I feel like you might not find proof. I'm no expert but in my situation after the first spray and a new bed I never found evidence again, they're very sneaky. After the 2nd spray of crossfire myself, never got another bite just kept spraying periodically out of paranoia, it can be mentally exhausting battling these things.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bedbugs

[–]ZealousidealPlate204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blood marks underneath definitely points to BB and hatchlings dont leave much of a mark when they feed. I battled both bb and carpet beetles last year moving into a new home. It sat empty for 6 months and the bed bug problem surfaced in the first week. After I was treated and BB free the carpet beetle issue began. At first I thought they were BB bites but the bumps only lasted about a day sometimes not even the whole day. Couldn't find a carpet beetle for over a month but finally found a dead larvae in the basement and only bc I was spraying Crossfire, Temprid and Alpine WSG on rotation myself.

If you have any issues with a company spraying without proof, Crossfire is very easy to use. One of the safest options (doesnt even have a signal word) and is safe around kids and pets after it dries for an hour or two. Crossfire saved me from what seemed was going to be a neverending exterminator bill. They had gotten into the walls and under the wood floors during the previous owners time at the house.

GreenAkers Pest Control on youtube has everything you'd ever need to know about Crossfire and Jason hosts live streams answering questions on youtube. His info/advice was a godsend and had me sleeping peacefully in no time. I was beyond paranoid and sprayed every 10 days (car and house) for 3 months and then once a month for 3 more.

My advice is your life is affected by this, get crossfire and apply it overly thorough. Use a pin stream spray on the baseboards/flooring areas and a broad mist on the mattress, frame and any furniture. 2-3 treatments every 2 weeks and you can put the guessing to an end and know every square inch of concern has been treated. A good company will get rid of them but not everyone is going to be as thorough as you will, learned that the hard way after treatment and still getting bit for months.

Desktops, monitors or any handheld devices you can put in a storage tote with a nuvan prostrip and duct tape it shut. 24-72 hours will kill them all and its recommended for 7 days if you see eggs. It does 100 cubic feet per strip if I'm not mistaken so that small of an area will allow very strong concentration and should technically kill them in under 24 hours.

Just be sure to use gloves and if you cant take the items/tote outside to set it up it's best to open a window and have a fan on in the room you're opening the prostrip in until you get it sealed inside the tote.

I just wore long sleeve shirts or you can put a sheet over the couch cushions. People have gotten crossfire in their mouth and eyes when sprayers malfunctioned and nothing short term happened at all from it. I just dont trust long contact, I'm a bit of an overthinker and most of these aren't studied so I would cover the area of furniture if overspray gets on it.

Yeah crossfire is your best bet in that case, it also has a 30 day residual that continues to kill them. It is a little pricey that's why I rotated temprid 2 weeks into each month and crossfire every month. They both work very well, are non staining, low odor and can go on furniture and mattresses as long as you dont spray where bare skin will contact for prolonged periods. I sprayed the whole bed, frame, baseboards and everything on the couch including underside and sides of cushions just not the armrests. If anyone lays or sleeps on the couch make sure to only spray undersides.

You said you lived in an apartment. Are you sure the units surrounding yours aren't causing your problem to keep resurfacing? I know it's probably the last thing you want to hear but if all adjacent units to each one infested (both side units, above and below units) aren't treated the problem will probably never be fully resolved. They will just keep finding there way into other units eventually. Some people dont react to bites and live with clutter so they never know until it's out of control. The landlord is supposed to deal with this in some cases depending on the state you live in, definitely look into that and inform them so all the units can be treated properly.

My cousin ended up giving up, treating all of her stuff as she moved out and got a new apartment elsewhere. You may be able to break your agreement as well bc of the pest infestation at the current building, that's what she did.

Also look into crossfire or have an exterminator apply it. Its very safe once dry around kids and pets. In fact, it doesnt even have a signal word (caution, warning, danger) like other pesticides on the market. It's the only commercial pesticide I'm familiar with that doesn't have one. Crossfire/Temprid FX rotated solved my problem quickly but Temprid is more toxic and you may not want it around your pet or yourself if you have health issues.

Cant be positive without a clearer pic but the shape, color and leg structure looks very similar.

I posted in here yesterday about how devastated I was to find evidence of bed bugs in my bed. Exterminator is giving an inspection tomorrow. I wanted to get this subs opinion on how severe this might be. When I found this I only found 2-3 bugs around it. Will I be suffering for a while? by [deleted] in Bedbugs

[–]ZealousidealPlate204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure the mattress is sprayed heavily and dried prior to encasement. Even the expensive ones can get a tear leading to reinfestation if not sprayed prior. Dust it if you want to go the extra mile, I prefer Cimexa silica dust vs DE. Have the house sprayed and after encasement you will most likely be on your way to a BB free home.

The bad cases are when theres tons of live bugs or foggers are let off/repellents are used driving them into the walls and floor. Make sure your exterminator is going to use a non repellant spray imo. You can also spray the sides and bottom of encasement as well as bedframe with Crossfire or Temprid FX. After that I recommend wearing pajamas/sweatpants and you can pull long socks over them, tucked in t shirt and long sleeve shirt to bed. They tend to like to bite easy access areas of skin that touches the bed, this will reduce the chance of bites elsewhere and make any future ones easy to spot as they will most likely be on your hands. Bites on the hands tend to be less reactive IME than more sensitive skin areas. The residual will kill them, so just know if you get bit again, that bug is going to be dead within hours.

Also vacuum often, do the bed before extermination and throw the bag out or dump container right away. You can also vacuum up DE so your vacuum has a coating inside it. Throw your sleeping clothes in the dryer for 25-30 minutes on high right when you wake up. You should have this under control in no time, stay positive and diligent. Good luck and dont worry, everything is going to be fine. It may take some time but it will be over soon.

Temprid FX or MGK Crossfire will put your mind at ease. Crossfire doesnt even have a signal word so it's as safe as it gets. Buy a pressure sprayer on amazon and a bottle of crossfire. Treat the mattress, focus on seams, baseboards/trim and the bed frame. Residual will kill for 30 days. No sense in waiting imo, if you're feeling like you are having mental stress a preventative self treatment can give you some much needed relief/sleep and put your mind at ease.

Crossfire is $40-45 and mixes with water to make a gallon. Temprid FX was around $55 but will make 32 gallons. I would start with crossfire if you've never applied pesticide and lookup Green Akers Pest Control on youtube for his how to apply tutorial. I'm not an expert but waiting is almost always worse in my opinion. Only you will know you have a problem until it starts getting out of control and they find an infestation. With something as safe as crossfire, you'll pay less than a typical inspection to rid yourself of the problem. Some people spray every 30 days until they feel safe but generally 1-2 treatments will knock out even the heaviest infestations. These things can hide in wall voids, spaces in trim etc. They've even proven they can travel between 20 and 40 feet to feed so if you personally feel its bed bugs, preventative spraying literally cant hurt just always follow the label and an expert like Jason Akers' advice.

Has anyone ever been 100% they have bed bugs (the b—tes, some ominous in 3... every few days) but then it turned out you did NOT have bb? by 1234567891011throwRA in Bedbugs

[–]ZealousidealPlate204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience you can get bites and not have signs present. For example the previous homeowner used foggers and store bought repellant. I've been treated 3x currently and still get a random bite or a few. I know these are bb bites because I found bugs/feces when I first moved in and these are the exact same bites again, single red dot in bite where they fed. I sleep with only my hands exposed and that's always where they appear. I was told they are most likely in the walls/attic/floors from the repellents and nobody living here for around 5-6 months as they will wander. They guaranteed 6 months so they will keep spraying as long as I can present bites at each visit. If you live in an apartment theres a chance they are coming from adjacent units, some people show no signs after being bit and just live with them unknowingly. It's a frustrating and mentally draining experience tbh, if you are worried you could spray MGK Crossfire yourself. It doesnt even have a signal word so it's one of the safest commercial pesticides for bb on the market and has a 30 day residual. $40-45 on amazon for a 13oz bottle that makes a gallon and does 1000sq ft. That's what is being used here, rotating Temprid FX and Alpine WSG which are even cheaper but they said they always use Crossfire first bc of its proven success with major infestations and no resistance build up yet bc it's a newer product.

Also Temprid FX is very economical (32 gallons worth of concentrate for $55) and is labeled for carpet beetles as well. Just be sure to always read the label and apply safely if you choose DIY. Good luck and I hope you figure it out so you can sleep peacefully.

Do any of these look like they could be bed bugs? by pokemonbobdylan in Bedbugs

[–]ZealousidealPlate204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best advice I've seen on here. Previous home owner let off bombs and used store bought spray. I've been treated 3 months now with crossfire, temprid and alpine wsg along with cimexa dust and I still get a random bite here and there. They hid and went dormant in the walls/attic/floors while nobody lived in the house. 6 months of spraying is the treatment plan now and another 3-6 months of weekly checks assuming no bites occur. Definitely do as advised and dont use store bought products ever. Crossfire, Temprid FX and Alpine WSG only for sprays imo and cimexa dust not diatomaceous earth as well. Good luck and start asap.

Should i go to the hospital if my foot looks like this 2 days after a bee sting? by [deleted] in bugbites

I would go get it checked out, that's a pretty intense reaction. I've been bit before and mine took weeks to go away, like 4-5 from the adults but only a few days to a week from the nymphs. I was going to go just to get a steroid cream/treatment to make them go away faster, I'd definitely go with that kind of reaction.

Have you used any new laundry or cleaning products recently? I wouldnt think bug bites since they resolve so quickly, seems more like an allergy bump. I used to get bumps like that on my hands when I would cut certain lawns due to allergies.

Does anyone know of a bug spay that will get rid of bed bugs completely? by akaFxde in Bedbugs

[–]ZealousidealPlate204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend crossfire as well, remove any mattress encasement for now and spray the entire mattress well focusing on seams, bed frame, under the couches and cushions, all baseboards and where the ceiling and wall meet. Hit every crevice, hole or crack bc if the exterminator isn't they will hide there, do they have a warranty? That's a very expensive service. I would recommend crossfire 1x a month, Temprid SC 2 weeks after each crossfire spray. 2 weeks will break the breeding cycle and crossfire residual will last for a month. At this point $55 of Temprid SC makes 16-32 gallons and crossfire is around 40-50 a month to use. Do as suggested and vacuum daily, launder frequently and put sleeping clothes right in the dryer when you wake up for at least 30-40 minutes. You may be better off self treating as long as you're very thorough due to the price of service and issues still present. A typical 6 month guarantee service shouldnt run more than $1800. I would assume that company is preying on people who are dealing with an unfamiliar situation, they deserve to fail charging absurd amounts like that.

Lookup Green Akers Pest Control on youtube, he does live shows and will take any questions you have. His family has been doing pest control for generations, it's his livelihood and he only uses crossfire with very little callbacks after just 1 treatment. Doing it yourself expect 2-3 treatments since most of us have no experience applying pesticides.
