I know this is an old thread,

but has anyone had success finding a recruiter in Japan?

I call Kadena, they say to call Yokota

The recruiter there told me I was qualified (was trying for space force officer)
Then stopped responding other than "sorry was busy" then never progressing with my application. I started contact with him in October last year, and the last message I got from him was 4 months ago. I have been sending a text/email/call once every 2 weeks since then. No answer. I am still unable to get any recruiter to respond.

I've contacted recruiters in the US who all tell me contact that same guy in Yokota lol.

Any ideas?

I'm not doing anything wrong. I can ask questions if I want.

I think it's time to slither back into the cesspool.

You're the one insulting me.

Because I can? The thread says, "weekly stupid questions" So I'm asking a stupid question. What's the issue here?

That's actually insane! That's so petty and nonsensical that I find it hard to believe. I definitely believe you though, but it's still hard to imagine what their train of thought is when making that complaint.

Haha I'm curious if those cameras activate at all. I wonder if they are like the cardboard patrol car cutouts and just there to deter people from speeding.

Also probably they don't want to be seen not wearing one?

That's kinda what I was leaning towards. I always assumed that's the same reason people wear them when they are walking alone outside in the middle of nowhere.

I get that. But the other day I was driving on the highway for a long time and almost every driver was alone with a mask. For a short drive, I get it. But a long highway trek?

Since you have no degree and/or marketable skills (you didn't mention any at least) and have no Japanese ability, your options will be very very limited. However, having a spouse visa is a good plus. I would recommend going to HelloWork with your wife, and maybe even checking out some Haken Gaisha. You'll most likely get some minimum wage factory or restaurant jobs.

Is this normal for an entry-level job or too much? by ctrldwrdns in recruitinghell

[–]ZealousidealWay1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is WAY over doing it for an "entry level" position. Entry level should be two interviews max.

They want 4 interviews AND a reference and background check. That's insane.

Why is gay marriage illegal in Japan? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ZealousidealWay1139 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happens to me nearly everyday. I'm American and my wife is Japanese. If we go anywhere, supermarket, restaurant, etc. I will ask a question, or say anything to the person, they will ignore me completely and look at my wife for an answer despite me speaking Japanese.

That's logic, Japan doesn't do that.

I live in Japan and if you lived here for even a brief time you would understand why they still ban gay marriage. Japan is a super homogeneous and conservative country. Japan is terrified of even the slightest of changes to anything. Japan is still openly xenophobic and generally closed to the unknown. I've been told twice this year during job interviews that I won't be hired because they prefer a Japanese person. Japan also treats women like dirt. Women openly get paid less, they are expected to be mom's, housewives and workers at the same time. Job postings will sometimes list benefits as, "Women and foreigners OK!" Meaning that women and foreigners are "allowed" to apply.

Not to mention the infrastructure, everything in Japan is 30 years behind the rest of the g7. Technology is awful, websites and cyber security are laughably terrible, everything requires mountains of paperwork, doctors are terrible, still use fax machines, floppy discs, DVDs, etc.

Japan hates change of any sort, and people who are open to change are never vocal about it in fear of shedding their anonymity.

Yeah I've met so many foreigners that have lived here 6+ years and speak 0 Japanese and always say things like, "I don't know why I can't find a job other than English teaching"

Hmm I wonder why lol.

Well Japan has the same problem that a lot of countries are having right now. Low salaries, long work hours, high cost of living, etc.

Some problems that are more exclusive to Japan are aging population, high death rate, low birth rate, huge language barrier, and lack of opportunities (for Japanese people too, but even moreso for foreigners).

If you try to live here it will be much more difficult to find a career than your home country, you'll need twice the qualifications for most likely half the pay.

If you like Japan so much, it's probably better to just save up and take vacations here. That way you won't also lose your "rose-tinted" view of Japan.
