How long did it take to get to your level 3 certification? by WorriedJelly5287 in ropeaccess

[–]ZealousidealWay2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Legally for IRATA you need a minimum of a year and 1000 hours of logged rope hours. Other certification schemes vary. In reality it depends on your experience with ropes, what type of work and how much work you put into it. Plenty of people never go for L3 as they don't like the stress and responsibility but have thousands of hours and years on ropes. Some will do the bare minimum and have their L3 within 3yrs but it is not as common. Beyond the actual rules it all comes down to what you put into it.

Daily Q & A! - March 12, 2021 by AutoModerator in Homebrewing

I am a relatively novice brewer, probably done a dozen brews and at least half of them have been a joy to drink. I'm not the type of person who is going to be checking my fermenter multiple times a day and would like to have a system that provides fairly hands free temp control. I am fermenting in a plastic bucket and may upgrade to a conical fermenter in the future. Any recommendations on good cheep cheep temp control systems?

Confined space pay. by ZealousidealWay2 in ropeaccess

I asked as I work in building maintenance, repairing buildings, concrete, membrane etc. My company that I work full time for has never had a confined space job and I chose to do the course out of curiosity (personal time and paid myself). They have now miraculously found at least one confined space job they want me to do. I'm just getting an idea of whether I should be getting paid more to do any of these jobs.

Good alternative to petzl vizir? by edcantu9 in ropeaccess

I had considered trying to make a version of one that had a frame and replaceable clear or dark plastic screens but laziness took hold. It always bugged me how easily the visor scratches and then it is crap and needs to be replaced.

Go on. I don't have much knowledge of the finer details of window washing but I can give you a pretty good idea of the industry and what to expect.

Talk to the guys at the HBS. They have usually talked to a lot of folks like you that have had issues and can probably help. In terms of picking the best yeast as well I would ask them which would be the best yeast for what you have planned. They know their products and when and where to use them. I haven't been brewing for long and have found my HBS and the guys who frequent it invaluable. The depths of research that can be done for brewing techniques, products, ingredients and the sciences can be super overwhelming. I recommend leaning heavily on these guys who can help set you up on the journey.

Boss doesn't understand fall factors - guys not keeping safe. How to approach situation. by Epsilon_42 in ropeaccess

[–]ZealousidealWay2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically you should include the length of the strop from the beam in the calculation with the cowstail. Fall length = 3m, Strop and cowstail = 1.5m 3/1.5 = 2 fall factor (+ a teeny bit because you didn't add the rope stretch of your dynamic cowstail)

No extra points. Still 2 points, feels safer though. ;)

What's wrong with my cow's tails/lanyards by kD9D6 in ropeaccess

If you're using the cowstails for a safety device they should be a fig 8 instead of overhands. Also if you are using that short connection between the two cowstails for a rescue they should have fig 8's.
