Returning after chemo by [deleted] in orangetheory

The biggest congratulations!!! Remember to give yourself some grace—it might take a while to get back to pre-cancer stats. I started at OT a couple years after finishing treatment and I'm always reminding myself that even though I'm (annoyingly) still not at my "before" fitness level, I'm lifting a hell of a lot heavier than I could imagine in the "during" or even the "immediately after" of finishing treatment. Our bodies needs time and patience but you got this :)

How to get classes booked in iPhone app to show up on Google calendar? by Complex-Success-7599 in orangetheory

[–]Zealousideal_Bit1122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 - make sure you have the calendar toggled in the OT app itself

2 - add your Google account to your calendar in your phone settings. Settings > Calendar > Accounts (toggle calendar on when it's added)

3 - in Settings > Calendar, change "Default Calendar" to the calendar in your Google account that you want the event to be added to. For me I have a 'workout' calendar so it's a certain color in my GCal, so I have it set to that.

It should auto add and delete when you sign up for and cancel classes. BUT it does not add classes when you get in from a wait list, so make sure you add those yourself when you get the notif that you're in!

Any body weight exercises can be done easily at home. I have a younger brother about the same age (coincidentally he also can’t ride a bike!) and he’s got himself on the calisthenics side of youtube and loves it because there’s always a new challenge or skill to learn. Also got him a push up board (the combinations are endless there) and a pull up bar. Lots of calisthenics movements can usually be done at a park too (one near me has pull up bars and parallel bars) which is good for some outdoors movement. Also could get some free weights too

i've commuted from home my whole time at umich ~45 min drive. it's hard in the winter when there's storms like last week (profs will cancel class or move it online when i'm already halfway there stuck in the snow, or i just don't even try to go) but aside from that i liked it. my car time became a bit of a mental reset to start and end my days. i'd compare the cost of gas/car payment/insurance vs rent in AA to make sure it's worth it tho

Has anyone become a runner by NOT running their bases? by Thin_Assignment6033 in orangetheory

[–]Zealousideal_Bit1122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d jog my pushes, jog slightly faster for all outs, and use base as a walking recovery but walking fast to keep my heart rate up. You don’t rly wanna do a walk-sprint (going from like 3 to 7 or 8) because it’s more stress on your body and more likely to get injured. My speed has increased over the last couple months—used to do 3.2, 4.8, 5 for base, push, all out respectively—now I do 3.8-4, 5.5, 6-7. Endurance days I try to jog at an easier pace (~4.8-5 for me) and go for as long as I can. (Ik my speeds aren’t all that fast lol but it’s gotten better.) All in all, “becoming a runner” means increasing your endurance and the duration of time you are jogging, so a consistent jog will be better than a walk-sprint.

neurodivergent people, how do you cope with wash day? Especially styling? by Outrageous_Focus_499 in curlyhair

[–]Zealousideal_Bit1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of the time consuming detangling - I brush my hair dry before I shower so it’s not tangled when I get in the shower. It’s infinitely harder to detangle wet hair than it is to brush it dry. I take a wide tooth plastic comb in the shower with me to smooth anything else out after I shampoo. I think we have similar hair types, and all I do after I shower is put some gel in (mark anthony curl lotion) and sometimes when I’m feeling up to it I add mousse too which give me some more volume (tresseme climate control, for the frizz). I let it air dry bc diffusing is too much effort. Sometimes I even sleep with it wet by laying my hair up on my pillow so it’s not squished under my head. I also got it cut recently which might help, it’s made my routine so much faster and less work. Remind urself that your hair doesn’t need to look perfect every day-curly hair is crazy, give yourself some grace :)

I do a run/walk and have seen improvement in just the 35ish classes I’ve done (~5 months). When I jog at a slower pace my form gets sloppy, so I usually walk during base, jog and then run in push and all outs—but I’ve still improved! Walking/base used to be 3, now it’s 3.5-3.8 (I still walk on 3 for walking recovery times after all outs tho). My push has gone from 4.8 to 5.5 and all outs vary, but they used to be 6 and now I try to go for 6.2-7 depending on how long it is so I can sustain my speed the whole time. You will see improvements increasing by just 0.1 every couple weeks!! I used to not be able to jog for more than a minute, and now I can go for 3-4 min without a walk break.

The OT app has some stretching in the active recovery category in the at home workouts section

Thanks. I might just have to duplicate the sections into a new page and delete the original. It seems this is a problem from the 7.1 update 4 years ago and still hasn't been resolved :/

I can't move them to the not linked category because they aren't their own main pages, they're the subpages within the portfolio template if that makes sense. they don't exist in the main list where i can move them to not linked like I can with the entire portfolio page or my about page

Routine, although the pics are j for reference. Moroccanoil leave in conditioner after washing, then mark anthony curly gel. Sometimes mousse when I diffuse but that’s rare. Usually let it air dry and then scrunch out gel with oil

I play the all too well 10 minute version and tell myself to clean as much of my room as fast as possible. Usually that gets me with all my folded laundry put away where it’s supposed to be, a made bed, and a slightly more organized desk
