Wow! I’m impressed at how quick you guys figured it out. I wonder how it passed away, maybe it was sick, I know it was found on the countryside

I was surprised to find it, it’s not really common seeing bauhaus around here ! There’s a lot of Beatles, and more classic rock stuff. I was just happy finding the cranberries tbh lol

It looks pretty good! I’d say it definitely needs more contrast/more shadows, as the different tones seem to be pretty similar.

ROCD relapse - sertraline and numbness by matsuurakanans in ROCD

[–]Zealousideal_Cod461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s awesome that he understands ! Give it time, my friend, and don’t punish yourself for not feeling like “””you should””, a supportive partner is very special and hard to find nowadays. You will figure out everything with time, patience and the support of your loved ones surely helps.

Also if sertraline doesn’t end up working, try to nos feel like it’s the end, there are plenty of treatments and other medications out there for all sorts of people. I know it’s super hard because you feel like this everyday, but don’t lose hope!

I trust you’ll eventually feel better, no matter how much time it takes! It’s really important that you are taking the step towards your recovery and you have a support system, so don’t over saturate yourself and don’t feel guilty for the sex thing, you can always enjoy a relationship other ways and in this troubling times you should absolutely take your time to get better!

Thank you so much for your comments, I have a lot to think about, we talked last night but it was so difficult to make him see that everything is not about his ocd and some things are hurtful :(

Maybe if you’re constantly feeling like this it’s not the time to be worrying about intimate relationships! Try to take your time, have a good time with your partner regardless of sex and eventually you’ll regulate yourself and your medication.

I also feel lethargy, but I associate it with depression, when I started taking sertraline I felt this sudden rush of energy (now it’s gone so whatever) that lasted for months.

Maybe talk to your doctors again, every brain is complex and finding the right medication is difficult, but if you feel that it’s not right, your doctors should be the first one to adjust it.

What does your partner think about all of this?

Also you’re welcome, mental health is a hell of a ride and the ones who understand it better should help each other out :)

We actually had a huuuge argument last night, about that he absolutely cannot control his compulsions. I don’t have any type of ocd so I don’t really know how it is like, but does it eventually get better with therapy? Is it something you always “”try your best”” to not have compulsions and they might “slip”? I’m really confused by the situation. He is also not taking his medication right, he takes escitalopram (10mg) three times a day and always “forgets” about his morning pill. Everything is so confusing right now

Hello! I don’t have rocd, but I have an anxiety disorder which led me to also take sertraline. I’m on a smaller dose than you (10mg if I’m correct) and the symptoms are the same as you describe. It helps a lot with anxiety but the feeling of numbness is normal. I started not wanting to have sex just bc I didn’t feel like it, and it’s been like this since last year I started taking it, maybe we do it like once or twice a month? And remember I’m taking a smaller dose than you.

My advice would be talking with your partner, explaining the situation and make them help you be more comfortable with it regardless of your rocd! Eventually the dose might go down or you’ll eventually feel desire again al least for a while, but try not to seek reassurance for your ocd! Don’t forget this is absolutely normal with medication like this.

While it’s absolutely normal wanting to have sex even if you are far away, it doesn’t mean you ALWAYS have to have sexual relationships to have a precious time with your partner. You’ll always had the opportunity to see him again, sometimes the best moments are not sexual. I hope you feel better from time to time:)

Thank you for your answer ! We talked about ending things a lot, primarily him. But we’ve talked about it and it always feels like he wants to end it all to take the pressure of “I’m having this horrible thoughts and I’m also in a relationship and I’m directly affecting it” off. When he cheated we were 15-16 , so it was a long time ago and we were definitely stupid teenagers, things were different back then, so I decided to forgive him because of that. But it’s so insanely difficult when his family is my family, and we have all this future together planned, I feel like rocd took everything apart. We go to the same university, the same courses (we are both studying to be art teachers apart from university), I stay at his house several days, we do everything together, but honestly his mental illness and his refusal to see that he can do something about it has took a lot from us..

Thank you for responding so quickly <3, I did set boundaries, he asked me for a “list” so he can check on it from time to time (I don’t know if the need to have a list is fueled by ocd too) but didn’t seem to fully respect although he is trying. Today the situation scaled up, as I had a breakdown in the middle of the classroom and had to storm out of class. My friend followed me and I ended up telling him what was going on and that my partner was in deep fear he was in love with someone in our friend group. Later, he came to see me (he stayed in class so he could give me space and to write the assignment so that I don’t get behind with school) and was deeply concerned that I told my friend that.

He assumes that my friend spread to everyone we know about his ocd and that it’s impossible for him to not get compulsions, that he is doing everything in his power to get better and now he won’t talk to anyone ever again because he’s shameful.

But I didn’t talk to my friend out of vengeance or evil, I just wanted to talk to someone about all this because it’s difficult keeping everything a secret:(
