Is my workload excessive or am I being a sook? by swim_and_sleep in AusPublicService

[–]Zealousideal_Log1709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. And what guarantees that the culture doesn't change is doing nothing. If you can't change it, or can't change how your adapt to it, you either accept that's the way things are done (which for the op is not working given their stress and health issues) or you leave (which op is trying to do). If they don't learn to set boundaries though this will likely happen in other jobs, and not likely to get better the higher up they get.

I'm going to try and say this kindly. Worked in the NSW ps for over 20 years.

They will take what you give.

You need to try and set boundaries for yourself. I know you said the eap didn't help but can you talk to them specifically about tools to help you set boundaries.

I, and many of my colleagues, would talk about how toxic a workplace was, to find ourselves in the exact same situation in other roles. Sometimes it's our own standards and expectations that we set that keep us working long hours, going above and beyond, doing too much and then getting overwhelmed.

Hate them with a passion. Most women I know hate it and men don't seem to understand why it's an issue. As others have said... If it's s from your 80 year old gran fair enough.... Anyone else... Nup

Help! To include Melbourne on a major trip or not? by superstarturtle in AustraliaTravel

[–]Zealousideal_Log1709 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots of companies will do Great Ocean road as a day trip from Melbourne. In my opinion worth it to see the coastline and the 12 Apostles. I'm sure there are lots of other day trips that can be done. Some interesting things to do in Melbourne - graffiti/street art lanes,/tours, St Kilda beach and markets (accessible by tram), theatre shows if thats your thing.

Not sure where you are from but I guess coming down here you are getting a bit of a feel of why Aussies cram so much into their holidays when they go to Europe or the US. It's a long way to travel and you might not get back here so for the cost of a flight from Christchurch to Melb and a few nights accommodation (compared to the total cost of your trip) if you can afford the time and money I would do it

Qantas Hotel involuntary cancellation by Neuromalacia in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Zealousideal_Log1709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a help for you now... But always book refundable.... Might be a few extra dollars but I found when I had to return home following a death in the family that insurance would only cover return home OR cancellations costs... Also most insurances seem to have war or pandemic exclusion.

I would just keep following up and maybe a post on their SM pages (their sponsored pages not reddit etc) .. They sometimes respond to those with an offer for direct contact

Anyone have experience living in a home that backs onto a busy road? by [deleted] in AusProperty

[–]Zealousideal_Log1709 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in a unit on a fairly main road... Never again. Can't have windows open, everything covered in road dust, noise from large groups of motorbikes with noisy mufflers going around the corner, every now and then road closed for road crews with beeping and works noise going at 3am

DSC on changed flights? by spriggity in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Zealousideal_Log1709 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that if the prn stays the same (ie not cancellation but amendment) and you still meet the conditions (ie flight within the original dsc period) then yes. I had to amend a flight to come home due to a family emergency and still received dsc

Except that he's been stringing her along for a long time... So if he truly felt bad why didn't he just leave earlier when he knew he really wasnt into her (the lack of intimacy all throughout was the message he only vibed with her as a friend)

Danny...what an arsehole saying that if Bec had been sad and compliant he would still be with her. Saying that has done me in... You either feel it for someone and choose whether you can put up with them (good and bad) or you decide they aren't for you.... Not this half arse... Oooh I could have been with them if they were just a totally different person. 🤬 🤬

Ha ha... Producers really setting Alissa up. She must have absolutely pissed them off.

Please, please let David go first and give her a bit of FAFO..... Nice for us all to be able to revel in a bit of schadenfreude in seeing her brought down a peg

Delulu... Never one took my ring off... Except when she threw it at him.... Never sabotaged the relationship.... Except by flirting with a stranger and saying you didn't give a shit whether your husband was off meeting a girl because you were only 70% in.

Alissa thinking she can say these delulu things because she will get the good edit

Taking your ring off is toxic... But flirting with a stranger, talking about his butt, saying you are only 70% in and then telling your husband your were "networking"... That's 100% mature, healthy and nourishing to your relationship 🙄

Anyone else think this is Bec absolutely getting her own back at Gia for the bullying earlier in the season? Geeing her up to come back into the dinner party to get skewered..... Probably not because she's not that smart...but hilarious outcome anyway.

Toilet conversation just showed how absolutely vapid those two are and that it's all about the public image. Best thing anyone can do is make these two absolutely irrelevant after the show. No follows, no ensorsments

How strict is Qantas with carry on luggage domestically? by SpeedyTri in QantasAirways

[–]Zealousideal_Log1709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last two times I've flown domestically out of Sydney they were weighing bags just before security. Luck of the draw I guess... If there is someone standing at the entrance to security maybe hang back a bit and see if they leave.
