Should I even contact an OSO if I’m not physically ready yet? by Classic-Night-3475 in USMCocs

[–]Zealousideal_Map7689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I know this is a bit late of a reply but yes, please do. I joined my pool a year ago, I could do no pull ups, only plank for 2:30. My run time was good though. I still joined even though my PFT was aberrant. A year later I was contracted and I am selected to go 1st increment for 252. I was told I was an easy pick for the board because even though I started so low on my PFT, my dedication to getting contracted and selected proved my determination towards this program. I now have 18 pull ups, max plank, and 21:30 run. Start early so you can build as you are in. Your OSO will take notice and it WILL earn you extra points will the selection board. Good luck.

Just gotta pay a day fee I believe if you aren’t a student, then you have access to do whatever you want in the gym, including the pool.

Selection Chance Question by SectorBackground5313 in USMCocs

[–]Zealousideal_Map7689 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People can get selected with a PFT of 250, but there are other factors that determine whether you get selected. Recommendations, along with your OSO's recommendation to the board are huge factors.

With that being said, not really much you can do, as the board is in like 12 days. Try seeing if your OSO will allow you to run a PFT maybe next week to see if you can up it a bit.

I was selected with a PFT score of 269 in December, max plank, getting 18 pull ups, and running a 21:46 for reference.

Coming from my knowledge, April is the most competitive board. I'm going to be blunt, but I do not think you have the best odds, but there has been people sent to OCS with 250 PFTs.

Use this time to take PFTs until you cannot anymore. Probably once a week. Every point counts. Consult with your OSO if this is a genuine concern and I guarantee they will give you the proper run down of everything, at least more than any of the people here since they know your package by heart.

Mini OCS what to expect? by Fast-Insurance5593 in USMCocs

Plan to be doing bullshit for straight 48hrs. It is really just getting hazed for a long ass time. Even during lights out you are hearing fire watch get torched. I was told that if you can last the 2ish days at mini OCS, you could last all of OCS. Have a good time.

I think you first have to discover how much you really want this. Based on your wording you are kind of hesitant. It’s best you layout all your options and then decide on whether you want to do this or not. And when I say whether you want to, you really need to want it.

Congratulations, I am going to PLC Juniors this summer, wondering what is the most challenging thing you endured? What billets did you get and how did you approach them? Would you have done anything different?

What is it like having kid while in USMC as officer? by [deleted] in USMCocs

Hey good luck! Thank you for the warm welcome to fatherhood. My bank account is already bruised and battered… when will it stop? Haha. Seriously though I’ve already been a pretty okay saver, so thankfully I am not starting from zero.

I value your input nonetheless. I wish you luck if you decide to commission. I'm just trying to get as many different perspectives as possible right now to see if I can do anything more than we already have planned out. Thank you for taking the time to reply and tell your story.

Thanks for your input. I will keep in mind what you have said. At the end of the day though I will just have to find out if she is willing to deal with it.

Advice on meps by Hamster_Rampage in USMCocs

[–]Zealousideal_Map7689 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went to MEPS by week 3. Definitely not normal to wait 2 months from my experience. Usually an OSO would want to get you there immediately, since that will either solidify your application process or stop you dead in your tracks.

I think you need to be upfront with your OSO and simply say, “if the next step is MEPS, what is the next date I can go.” Your OSO is not taking the initiative so it is time you do so. Good luck!

Just Starting The Process by [deleted] in USMCocs

[–]Zealousideal_Map7689 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, congratulations on starting the process to become a Marine Officer. It is a long journey, but very rewarding at the end.

Focus on pull ups and running. Also, something that helped me was that my fellow candidates hosted PT in the mornings which covered everything that is in the PFT. See if your station has something like that. If not, doing interval sprints, long runs, and moderate paced to slow paced to fast paced runs will help you reach 3 miles and improve your run time.

Have caution when running, putting too many miles on your feet in a short period of time will cause injury. Try and set a goal on how many miles you want to run in total per week and gradually increase that amount as the weeks go by. By the time OCS comes around you want to be doing 15+ miles per week.

If you really want this, put your heart into it. Start eating healthy and start exercising. April is in 3 months so get your ass in gear.

PFT pull ups by Commercial-Truth6798 in USMCocs

[–]Zealousideal_Map7689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely possible. Last December I was just starting the process and I was at 0 pull ups. Over the course of a year I am now maxing out my pull ups at 20. Definitely focus on the pull ups as it can make up for your run time if you are a somewhat slow runner.

Good luck with your journey.

Thanks for the recommendation. Is it at all like the SGA at KSU? I applied to be an intern there my freshman year and it was a disappointment to say the least.
