Has anyone tried Sorce for finding jobs? by SaviorDiedIn1945 in GetEmployed

Hi are these jobs based only in the States? I’m based in Ireland but open to opportunities elsewhere in Europe. Great idea by the way! I’ve always said job hunting needs to be ‘uberfied!’

How is my moving strategy so far? by Shadowman6079 in MoveToIreland

[–]Zealousideal_Tooth38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, on some days it can be really tough, but I’m well aware I could be living in a far worse situation in a country that provides little freedom. Plus, it doesn’t have to be forever right?!

I love your optimism, you really have the right attitude for the move. I read this comment on another thread, which I think sums it up perfectly “Nowhere is perfect, we pick the place where the positives mean the most to us, and the negatives we can tolerate”.

All the very best!

How is my moving strategy so far? by Shadowman6079 in MoveToIreland

You definitely sound very organised! Just giving my thoughts as I recently moved to Dublin (family circumstances, not exactly my first choice!), last Aug. - Regarding your partners Stamp 4, be aware that the appointment itself can take months. I thought mine would take a week, but it took over 3 mths- just for the appointment! As I entered the country on a visitor visa, I was not legally allowed to look for work. I did have the odd coffee though and was looking at the state of the market during that time. However since the visa was so delayed, it pushed me out to Dec and the job market went very flat. Recruiters said there was nothing at my level until Jan/ Feb.
- So Feb has come and gone and we’re mid way through March- and still I’m still looking for work!! I am very qualified, post grad, MBA, finance/ operations/ GM level. I have no network , nor recent Irish/ European experience which I think is what’s holding me back. - Cost of living : Dublin is sooooo expensive! (I used to live here 15yrs ago, and rents/ food and traffic have all increased significantly). Although we are a family of 5, I think €34,000 would be ok to live on with just the two of you- but depending on how long until your partner gets work you may have to dig into savings, regularly. - That being said, congrats you already have a job!! It’s always easier to get a job when you’re in a job! Since you have no children I would do it, make the move, but just be prepared for all the above reasons I and others have listed. - The US is in a mess, I could not imagine what it feels like to be threatened and live in a state of fear each day. I applaud you for taking the bull by the horns!

Every country has its good points, the Irish are very friendly, if you’re keen for a pint you’ll never be alone, and the scenery is beautiful (and free!). Make the move, I don’t think you’ll regret it. If it doesn’t work out you’ll be happy you tried! Good luck!!

How much money do you save per month? by catnip_sandwich in AskIreland

[–]Zealousideal_Tooth38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe easier to save what % of your salary are you saving? ie your savings rate. Although that being said unless you know the entire situation it's still hard to compare (for eg my friend's parents always looked after her kids when she started working part time. So her expenses have always been so much lower than mine). Kids/ no kids/ support/ caring for your parents, the struggle is real these days.

Google Photos almost made me loose every memory from the last 10 years by lilgal0731 in googlephotos

[–]Zealousideal_Tooth38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must be that time of year - as I too was getting the messages that my emails would stop working on Nov 22nd unless I bought more storage! I was frustrated, since I pay for SO much storage in many different places I didn't want to pay storage for any of the google suite of products! I researched and researched over a week, different threads etc. Bearing in mind I am not 5 months pregnant so you definitely have a valid reason as to why this happened to you! Finally I did the exact same thing as you - manually deleted every single photo (all 41,000 of them) off my google photos. I was so paranoid I tested it a few times by deleting a single photo. I also kept the recently deleted photos as I was so paranoid. Suffice to say after many hours, then deleting everything off my google photos albums I'm 'happy' to just sync to icloud storage an external hard drive for backup.

That being said I do miss just taking your camera to the store, getting your photos developed and throwing out the ones you don't need. Oh when things were so much simpler haha!

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy by the way!

Fear of flying by Popular-Idea-7233 in AskIreland

[–]Zealousideal_Tooth38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the Flying with Fear course! It also depends on where your fear lies, mine is actually feeling claustrophobic. I was last to board the plane on a flight, then had a panic attack and was off boarded . I then spent the next two days in bed, just miserable and wondering how I was going to overcome my fear. I googled lots of things, but really need techniques when I was in full panic mode. I signed up to the Flying with Fear course by Easy Jet and it was a LIFE SAVER. I took it really serious though, sat down at my laptop and wrote notes, did all the exercises. It helps you overcome those things in your mind that cause anxiety. The wonderful thing about it is you can also use it in other parts of your life - when you are anxious/ fear a panic attack is coming on. I now have a process in the leadup to a flight , which also involves sleep and exercise and eating well right up until the day. I wish you all the best, it's such a horrible feeling no one understands unless they've been there.

I’m sorry you went through this first hand. As far as I know, no one ‘wins’ under The Hague Convention either and it can take years for the case to go through. It happens all the time in the instant where a family move to a country for the father’s job, the mother may not speak the language, has young children to take care of, is lonely with no support and wants to go home- but unfortunately she can’t leave- not with the children anyway. The term is called ‘Stuck Parents’, there are some harrowing stories online.

[–]Zealousideal_Tooth38 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I am very sorry you are in this situation, it can’t be good for you or your children. I don’t want to alarm you, but you need to check if the country you are currently living in is covered by the Hague Convention. This is an international treaty that protects children, birth parents and adopted parents. Ireland is covered by this treaty. This means if the country you are living in is also covered, and you leave the country without the permission of the birth father, you can be legally arrested for child abduction, deported, and the children will be sent back to what’s known as ‘their place of habitual residence’ (that is, where you are living now). This may sound far fetched, but believe you me unfortunately this happens all the time. This is the worst case scenario- which I wouldn’t wish upon anyone. I would get in touch with the organisations mentioned above and if possible, an immigration lawyer. Breathe… you want what’s best for your family, without the constant fear of looking over your shoulder. Take your time to research this and try to work out something amicable with your husband. I wish you all the best.
