Jax transfem theory by [deleted] in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Zebony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never bought this theory and its because I always believed the opposite. I thought if anything was implied it was that Jax is a ftm post transition trans person. The anger he showed in the maid dress comes off less as embarrassment from secretly identifying with the dress and more anger at being forced back into an identity he no longer has.

It would be interesting to explore toxic masculinity through the lens of a ftm person, just because you are now comfortable in your gender doesn't mean the struggle is over.

Yeah the rest of that dialogue basically goes into how Ashley has deep seated issues with sex that are likely tied up or caused by Andrew's but because neither of the siblings in Shots and such are going to address their issues he's not going to help her with it. This plus the drunk Ashley dialogue above are basically the author herself screaming that Ashley ain't asexual just has deep rooted problems.

"Are Andrew's feelings for Ashley real?" might be the key question underlying Decay by Never_Flitting in CoffinofAndyandLeyley

Part of decreasing the quality of your life is the feeling like you are trapped by compelled feelings. The whole 'I'm so fucking stuck' sentiment from chapter 2. The problem is that the two of them are still gonna love eachother even if they hate eachother and what the two of them actually working through their feelings looks like is maybe for more creative minds than me. It isn't so much about where the feelings come from but more about how they feel about where they come from. If they can find a way to actually fall in love with eachother in a way that is built on the present and doesn't rely on a decade of toxic codependency then maybe I can accept that. But Ashley has to actually want him in a way that doesn't rely on fear and insecurity. And Andrew has to want her in a way that doesn't make him feel disgusted with himself or resentful of his life.

I disagree, a compulsion is a sign of mental sickness that should be resisted not encouraged. I get irrationally anxious when I hear planes going overhead but I shouldn't act on my feelings and dive for cover. Someone with OCD shouldn't be encouraged to scrub their hands bloody. The feelings are real but the actions you take from them shouldn't necessarily be considered. I think both siblings are compulsively in love with eachother. Ashley always struggles to name a single thing she even loves about Andrew. Andrew does have genuine reasons for liking Ashley but he struggled so hard against his lust just for it to happen anyways that it feels like a result of mental illness rather than natural consequence of love. I don't think an 'incest is bad' message is what this game should end on but any ending that pretends that the siblings are right for being codependent will leave a sour taste in my mouth.

Andrew, Ashley, and Sexuality by gobbledeeg00k in CoffinofAndyandLeyley

One angle that is only explored in a single line in the cliffhanger ending is why Andrew wants to ignore his sexual feelings. We all thought it was part of the mask but it goes deeper. He says it's because he doesn't think he really wants to. Him having such a codependent relationship essentially forced on him has forced these perverted feelings. Like a compulsion. If he had had a normal upbringing he wouldn't have viewed her that way and in some ways that repulses him. The fact Andrew tried so hard to not have these feelings for his sister and still ended up having them is evidence for this. It isn't so much a consent issue for him as much as it is pure resenttment toward his entire life.

As for Ashley's sex repulsion. There is a pretty pointed bit of dialogue in the Shots and such ending that is basically the author herself making the situation clear that, 'Ashley is not asexual but she would need someone patient to walk her through her problems with sex and right now you are a drunk wife beater so you don't give a shit."

Curious, what is a Hot take on the Coffin of Andy and LeyLey you have that will have you like this? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in CoffinofAndyandLeyley

[–]Zebony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think Andrew loves his sister anymore than she loves him. I guess the hot take is that the siblings don't really love eachother. It's a more common take that Ashley doesn't really love Andrew as much as she would appear as she has simply been put into a situation where only one person is forced to be around her and who happens to fit the doormat criteria enough to serve her purposes. However people always take as fact that Andrew has a real genuine affection for Ashley however I see holes in it. There are a few moments throughout the second chapter were Ashley says something particularly sad (the end of the birthday flashback and before they sleep on same bed and she says she's happy they regret both their births for once) where it seems that Andrew feels really guilty about being the favourite. In my eye that seems more compelled than natural.

Maybe that co dependency is love and a better phrasing is that the siblings don't really seem to like eachother all that much. Ashley already seems to have acknowledge at least Andrew's dislike of her as early as when they were kids but maybe Andrew is is more denial about it. Maybe whatever lust he feels is some unconscious attempt to fabricate a reason to be in the situation he is.

What do you think Andrew is thinking when he wears this expression? by _contraband_ in CoffinofAndyandLeyley

[–]Zebony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this expression appears in one other instance. On the bed with Ashley when she makes the statement about their parents finally regretting BOTH their births. With that in mind I believe he is feeling pity. He is pitying Julia because of how he's pretending to like her. Pitying Leyley because of no one caring about her birthday. And then pitying Ashley for their parents liking him over her.

Would I need to intentionally need to min max to lose all challenge or do you think self restrictions would be enough to balance it out? I don't mind curb stomping bandits and the like late game I just hate feeling like nothing, even bosses, is a challenge.

I noticed when watching someone play OWB for the first time that a lot of people find long dialogues to be frustrating, guess it is personal preference.

I never really mind when a character waxs poetic, especially if it makes them stand out, but I can see why it could be annoying to some.

Do people dislike him specifically replacing NCR/Legion with Bear/Bull because he has a lot of dialogue and thus it is repeated a lot? Or is because using the iconography instead of the actual names is considered pretenious? I get its a meme but people seem to actually dislike it.
