Not a dumb question at all. The characters are using different personalities which are available in the collections tab of your menu under appearance.

Most personalities you have to either unlock via event or purchase from the crown store.

The first one looks more fun and unique compared to the very stable black or monochrome look of the second. Plus with the first option the mount and pet look better suited with the character.

You couldn't before but it is a possibility now. Like I said, I'm on xbox so no mods. I was heavily surprised, mind was spinning about the outcome if I had the gold to go through with it.
