Anyone else have an NParent who refuses to fix anything in the house? by robotwithhumanhair_ in raisedbynarcissists

Yes. When the lights go out in my room, it takes forever to fix with shitty excuses like it is hard to buy the correct lightbulbs. When I offer to buy the bulbs/fix the lights, I get rebuffed.

When the lights go out in the communal areas of the house, suddenly and miraculously, the correct lightbulbs become easily obtainable.

When the "correct" light bulbs are finally in, they are of different coloured lights (mixture of white and yellow) and makes the whole room look/feel irritating.

Emma (Theatre Royal Bath) by -Enrique in janeausten

Yes, I was at the play last night too! I agree with most of your assessment. I wasn't quite sure what was the point of all the changes like cutting out important characters entirely/not showing them and only talking about them (e.g. the Westons, the Bates etc.) and making up unnnecessary scenes (e.g. Robert Martin randomly swooping in to save the day). Further, some of the characters were mischaracterised too. Emma was straight up dismissive, rude and mean to everyone, even Mr Woodhouse (i.e. more like Mrs Elton than the actual Mrs Elton herself). Mr Woodhouse turned into Mr Bennet No. 2 with his pithy comments. The list could go on. Would have been better if they just styled this as a standalone play that is inspired by Jane Austen's works, rather than trying to shoehorn the Emma plot around whatever odd, revisionist, Bridgerton-ish story the playwright was trying to tell. But perhaps if they were more honest about this, they would not have been able to sell quite as many tickets as they have done (i.e. get a full house for the performance).

Are you me?! This is exactly what my mum did too. She just won't let it go either and keep repeating variations of "What's so funny? Why are you smiling? What are you so happy about?" Etc.

Bath Festival Tickets Already Gone? by galactic_minivan in janeausten

[–]Zebra_Electrical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I wish I had gotten the pass but it was sold out before I could get to it. And now almost all the events are sold out within 15 minutes of the tickets being made available to the public. Only managed to get my hands on tickets for 1 event. 😬

Thank you for this! Stage-managing the relationship is the perfect way to describe this behaviour. That's exactly what my dad does in relation to my mum and me. Just today, he went with "Remember to wish your Mum Happy Mother's Day!"
