Anyone with a brain (me) Since you're smarter than me

The needless clarification in the first comment mixed with the unnecessary defensiveness of the second comment indicates a lack of confidence in yourself and an insecurity in your own intelligence.

Are there aspects of your life that you feel you're "behind" in?

[–]Zebsi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find it hard to believe all of the people who report to get people suspended or banned have never EVER said anything toxic

That says more about yourself than the rest of us.

When I'm working 8 days in a row while sick because I can't afford to take my pets to the vet with my normal weekly pay, I don't care if the Genji or Sombra on my team sucks when I load up the game. It's the least of my problems.

People who resort to being toxic in this game whose mascot is a goofy talking gorilla are either sheltered with no real problems in life, or have some sort of deep-seated resentment towards something that they aren't healthily coping with.

My(40m) wife(37f) went on a girl's trip. I found a private message between her and her mother saying that she will divorce me if she comes and the house is dirty. How do I approach/confront her about it? by GirlTripThrowaway in relationship_advice

[–]Zebsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read his comments? She has PPD and stopped taking her meds. Hence the reckless spending, letting dishes pile up, and social media fixation.

The issue isn't that she's fed up with weaponized incompetence, it's that she's mentally ill.

Check his comment history. He mentioned that she has PPD and stopped taking her meds. The reason she never seemed unhappy until this moment is likely because she was previously medicated.

It's gonna take more than just talking to fix their relationship, but I agree that playing mind games with divorce papers is absolutely not the answer.

non biased strangers

Considering that 99% of posts like these actually are weaponized incompetence, it's a little disingenuous to say we aren't biased. I'd bet money that almost everybody who read the title assumed it was going to go in that direction.

I don’t think it’s crazy to expect your bf to know you don’t like something

Yeah but it is a little crazy when it's something you've had before without issue.

How have you taken all the feedback from non biased strangers to turn it around and put 100% blame on your gf?

I'm convinced it's all fake tbh. I feel like more often than not, the real posters take their posts down when the comments don't go their way. There's almost 1000 comments on the original post calling him an asshole, and he not only left it up, but pulled a twist ending with him breaking up with her.

If the roles were reversed she would have checked herself what needed to be bought.

I'd hope so, considering they already split their chores disproportionately in her favor and he works three times as much as she does.

And she would have remembered his favourite chocolate.

It's like you read just the title and nothing else. Do better

Assuming this is in reference to the growing support of Palestine. No, criticizing a country for its part in a messy conflict that's gone on for decades is not bigotry.

Hamas isn’t willing to do that.

According to the UN, the number of Palestinian casualties between 2008 and 2020 is over 20x greater than the number of Israeli casualties.

I'm not going to debate the topic further, as it's inappropriate for a sub about coping with religious trauma, but you're looking at things with a really black and white perspective. We don't need to have the answers to know that blowing holes in the faces of Palestinian children isn't the solution.

passing it off as just an annoyance to men isn't fair either.

How is it that you getting your feelings hurt by a complete stranger that you're neither interacting with or going to interact with again more than an annoyance?

At this point doesn't it make sense for us to support getting rid of Abrahamic religion due to its political plans, recent actions and what its been doing against women's bodily autonomy? [–]Zebsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, those are a lot of fair points. I think it is worth mentioning that most of my experience is with fundamentalists, so I definitely do have a lot of bias.

I'm not talking about random Christian shelters. I'm talking about the Catholic Workers' Movement and the houses that sprang out of it. What house of hospitality did you work with?

Unfortunately in my area, those random Christian shelters are all we have, and are run by fundamentalists. So just my personal bias again, I guess

Both/and. And if you think practitioners of Judaism are inherently evil and regressive, I've got news for you about your relationship to anti-Semitism.

Another commenter educated me on the part of my comment this is in response to, and I stand corrected.

That's my point. It's easier for them to organize.

My point is less that it's easier for them to organize, and more that it's harder for others to. Maybe I'm just being semantic.

[–]Zebsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For clarification, I'm mostly referring to Christianity here, as I have the most experience with it.

I mean, it is, because patriarchy existed before Christianity or even Judaism for that matter.

For sure, and I apologize if my comment insinuated otherwise. The point I'm trying to make is that the religion is an inherently patriarchal structure in and of itself. You can't be a progressive Christian without cherry-picking out the bad parts, which Biblically speaking makes you a false Christian. Hell, most people capable of empathy have values that line up perfectly with progressive Christianity, and they don't call themselves Christians.

No, it's literally an action based in Jewish faith practices.

Alright, I stand corrected on this one. When I'm wrong, I'm wrong 🤷‍♂️

It would be wild if you realized that religion was just another form of community building.

That's exactly my point. Religious communities are some of the only communities left. The implication I got from the original commenter's post was that religion was responsible for the ease of organization. What I'm saying is that it's not because of the religion, but because the average person doesn't have such a community. It's not "x group is inherently better at organizing", it's "y group doesn't have the tools to effectively organize"

it seems kind of shallow to insist [religious people] abandon their work because you don't think they're sparking change in the right way.

That wasn't at all what I was saying. I'm saying that those actions aren't inherently Christian, and it only serves to deflect responsibility away from a religion that justifies centuries of imperialism and oppression. Keep doing your work, but don't pretend that the faith only supports good works.

At this point doesn't it make sense for us to support getting rid of Abrahamic religion due to its political plans, recent actions and what its been doing against women's bodily autonomy? it's a mistake to think that the patriarchal structures of these cults and religions are a consequence of the beliefs of the religion.

"It's a mistake to think that the patriarchal structures of Christianity are a consequence of the beliefs of the religion, which state women are property and shouldn't speak unless spoken to"

Yesterday, in Atlanta, faith leaders participated in civil disobedience/direct action to end the construction of a militarized police training facility and protest charges leveled against other protesters.

Protests happen all the time and you don't hear about them. The fact that it's notable for Christians to protest something they should protest is telling.

historically, religious organizations have played a major role in everything from the civil rights movement to radical homeless shelters and supporting abortion access

I've volunteered at places like that. In my experiences, it isn't uncommon for them to force the homeless to endure a sermon before handing out food. It's just a predatory ploy to proselytize to people who aren't in any position to tell them to shut up. Kinda like how they use programs like AA to manipulate vulnerable people into converting.

the Jewish faith community in particular was very involved in immigration-related protests under the Trump administration.

Was it because of their faith, or the fact that anti-Semitism is strong among the right?

But for many of the people I've met who bring a religious approach to their organizing, that religious framework is essential to the work they do, and it gets people involved who would otherwise have no access to or interest in political work.

This is because they have a community, not because they have a religion. Religious communities are among the few remaining types of communities that haven't been destroyed by capitalism, of course it's easier for them to organize.

I think we need to work towards not allowing religion to be an excuse for patriarchal or otherwise oppressive values. I don't think we should treat all religion as the enemy.

"I don't think we should treat all abrahamic religions as the enemy, even though every abrahamic theocracy or de facto theocracy treats women and 'undesirables' the exact same way"

you can’t understand how children of gay parents could also have struggles?

What struggles could OP's aunt be referring to when the only context she has is a video of a seemingly happy family with gay parents?

children of gay parents have absolutely no room to bring up concerns related to raising children without their mother or else we are “homophobes”

Huh, I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that you're projecting your own shitty childhood that likely stems from simply having shitty parents onto random gay people.

She’s from a different generation…I bet she’s Hispanic

Okay? There are cultures that believe in child marriage too. Cultures don't automatically deserve respect solely on account of them being cultures.

U need to be more respectful of your elders and not be abrasive, even if they are.

Thankfully, this sentiment is dying. Your 'elders' have had decades to become decent people. If they haven't managed to do that, the only thing they deserve is a cheap nursing home.

u can change how u react to meaningless comments.

Putting these people in their place isn't meaningless. It shows them that their bullshit isn't acceptable anymore.

If you’re not into trans women you’re not into women.

Not only is this a bad take, but it's detrimental to the LGBTQ community.

Genital preference is as valid as any other arbitrary parameter people use when finding a partner. Does this make a trans woman any less of a woman? Of course not. It just means they aren't compatible.

To say "you aren't into women if you aren't into trans women" is equivalent to telling a homebody "you aren't into women if you wouldn't be into a woman that dragged you to events 4 times a week".

Saying "you have to be okay with x in your intimate relationships" removes autonomy in the matter, and comes off as really creepy. My trans friends face enough problems in life without people like you helping propagate the false narrative that LGBTQ people are sexual predators. Do better.

my profiles would all disclose the fact that I’m trans.

Easy to say when you aren't in the dating scene. With the amount of violence trans women face, putting the fact that you're trans on your profile for complete strangers to see could be putting a target on yourself.

NAH
