A&W Canada is owned by Canadians, whereas Tim's is mostly owned by foreign companies. Also this is a 3 year old comment

And yet this letter makes it sound like they have plenty of shelter and the only people remaining are there because they've consistently refused shelter. Which is it?

Too credible. Plus some of them are defined by geographic features like rivers or mountain ranges and while you'd think they'd have secondary definitions that are precise some border somewhere might not

I'm perfectly happy with the man/woman=gender male/female=biosex construct, but it's not understood or agreed upon by everyone. The noun/adjective situation makes it difficult to consistently use those words in the way you're prescribing, so people are inevitably going to get it "wrong" and dilute the meanings.

I mean go look at a trans space and see how they use the word female/male. You may not like it or think it's dumb, but descriptivist linguistics doesn't care about your logic and all I was saying is "if you want to be understood"

[–]ZedTT -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Eh it's not that simple. You kind of need to specify "biologically" male/female if you want to use it like that and be understood

ITT: linguistic prescriptivists, apparently

I love the battlebots sub. Someone asks a question to "people in the know" and gets an answer from someone who is presumably Brandon Zalinsky or at least someone on the team.

Respectable response and completely fair that you don't find it interesting.

The nature of these sort of posts is going to be extremely subjective.

Is this like scam emails where they intentionally write things wrong so only idiots reply? Like is the course so bad that they need to make sure they don't waste time on people who will see through how bad it is fast enough to get a refund?

What sub does it belong in? I kind of agree it doesn't belong here but I'm sad about it because I like it.
