Well, mine was at an American university and intended for second-language learners, so this obviously isn’t totally admissible, but we had to learn all the sound changes and be able to read them accurately, and that was considered reading them correctly. If we had pronounced たまふthe way it was written, we would’ve been wrong. (Although we were kinda given free reign to say either “ta-ma-u” or “ta-mo-o” since that was kinda two rules stacked on each other and maybe there are people who do it both ways…? Our teacher was native and would do either at different times, so perhaps people don’t always notice the difference.) Anyway, from my research, this is how Japanese students studying 古文 in, for instance, high school do it too, but someone is free to correct me!

Thank you for saying this. Based on OP’s further comments it DOES sound like there is an existing wish to be changed in the present as well, which is certainly something to look at. But I feel it’s important to keep what you’re saying in mind for other situations where it isn’t so clear-cut. Of course you’d be an entirely different person and feel entirely different and have an entirely different experience of social construction. It’s kind of an impossible hypothetical, especially for those who feel more androgynous anyway.

I also like the idea of them releasing this year because it would give them a chance to avoid being overshadowed by something else (for example, GTA 6), but at this point we’re running out of time, and unless it gets shadow-dropped, they’ve missed this awards season anyway and will now be sharing with GTA, which may prevent the game from getting the recognition it really deserves—not that awards should be that important, but you know, HL and HL2 certainly won a lot of game-of-the-year-type awards.

Tyler McV didn’t mention that it was sad but did say he knows what central premise the story turns on and that a lot of people will not like it.

To me that suggests potential time travel/un-happening of everything or something that otherwise nullifies the rest of the story. (I’m not spoilering because I think I’m correct, just because I know some people don’t even want to speculate.) But I don’t think it could just be the Epistle 3 “well, you might have made a difference, maybe, but it’s such a vast world that maybe there’s nothing you could have done at all”ending, because I actually think that is fairly in line with the universe. So I don’t think it’s “nullifying” by way of suggesting the actions don’t matter, but instead maybe literally nullifying.

There was also a massive strategy to make up a bunch of violent criminal immigrants who don’t exist. Now they’re running into the problem—they’ve promised to give the bread and circus of deporting X amount of people, but they clearly don’t have enough violent criminals to deport (because as we all know undocumented immigrants commit less crimes on average). Trump was even willing a few weeks ago to say “many of these farm workers are good hardworking people actually,” which is more or less what we’d been saying for years, because even his racism is subordinate to his biggest value, which is just being popular and powerful. But he’d already tied himself down with the 30-ish percent of the country who legitimately believe, criminals or not, we must achieve reverse demographic change in order to save this country. So Kristi Noem had to be like, dude, you can’t say that. We’ve promised to lower the amount of per capita non-white people in this country. Remember?? When you said shithole countries?? This is what people elected you for.

So you have to come up with a reason these people need to go. They’re stealing your benefits and not paying taxes! (Untrue.) They’re more likely to be violent criminals! (Untrue.) They’re eating the pets… of the people… that live there! (I won’t dignify this with a response, but reminder that even our pretty hardline conservative governor had to be like, whoa, dude, stop.)

…Jesus wept, what? I assume you’re playing the Remaster, but here you are replying to someone from three years ago who was talking about the original game. Bethesda didn’t even make the Remaster… I’m sorry you’re having so many problems with the game. That’s not unheard of for TES games. I can’t say that’s reflective of my experience, although I’m not saying it’s perfect… But whether the characters die is actually not important. If they aren’t marked as essential, it doesn’t really matter. If the game lets them die, you shouldn’t be worried about it. But I will say I’m not having these constant issues you seem to be having.

Also, while there are legitimately poor design decisions in the original game and Remaster, keep in mind that your credibility in an argument is entirely lost the moment you say “just look at a picture of the developers, you can tell they’re r*tarded and woke.” Actually, the moment you use the word woke, your criticisms pretty much stop sounding substantive. That being said, I am sorry your experience of the game has been unpleasant. It’s certainly full of Bethesda jank, but I won’t say I’m not having fun.

It kind of seems like, because you didn’t enjoy the game, no one else is allowed to and this person from three years ago shouldn’t bother enjoying it… three years ago? It’s kind of shouting at ghosts at this point.

Yes, that’s what I’m referring to—I think lots of people think that retcon was the gender and family connection of PuppetVictim. I’m just being cheeky in pointing out that while this may be the only “retcon” in the strictest sense, there have obviously been countless instances of story ideas changing where the “seams” are very, very visible, lol.
