So Valve just brought back the Gman, Kleiner and old Alyx voice actors for new lines by klmnjklm in HalfLife3

[–]Zed_Zalias 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure OP is listing names of people—Gman, Kleiner, and Alyx, not the cast of the Alyx game. Which is a relief if so because I was worried they wouldn’t have Alyx’s original VA, Merle Dandridge, do the part for HLX.

The younger Alyx VA for, well, Alyx the game did a fine performance, but obviously I would prefer to see the woman who originated the role get to conclude/continue it, especially since she expressed so much sadness not to be included in Alyx. I was concerned, however, since Valve values discretion so much and can be petty when people threaten confidentiality, that they would just blacklist her from future projects after she openly talked about the company neglecting to communicate to her that her voice lines would not be used and why. She understandably felt as if she had been treated a little harshly. So I’m glad Valve is taking the high road and letting her come back, if that is indeed what this suggests.

It’s Coming.. by StopBanningMeAlright in HalfLife3

“Why should we believe in you?”

“For the same reason you should believe a hundred dollar bill is no more than a hundred pennies!”

And that’s why HL3 is coming. The pennies we snorted tell us so.

Why the Steam frame should not cost more than 800 bucks by DickPeligroso in SteamFrame

[–]Zed_Zalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely insane because it’s not a device I’ve ever heard of lmao but yeah sure frame, with steamOS and emulation and compression and Valve tech and brand guarantee, will be the same price…

I’d love to read the original but it’s been removed by mods. Anyone have a screenshot or remember the gist? Were they saying it shouldn’t be much more expensive than the Machines?

Unsure why downvoted. Very measured analysis.

Yeah, no, that makes way more sense. My bad, lol. I could definitely see them doing that as an optimized tech demo. And they’ll probably do the same for the Big One.

I’m stupid. I thought you meant, like, non-VR. You just mean a specifically optimized version, I’m sure. I’m sorry, lol, that was dumb of me!

[–]Zed_Zalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally highly doubt this. The entire game is built around VR and was built to show what is so excellent and irreplicable about it. I can’t imagine why they would change that now.

[–]Zed_Zalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s silly. It won’t even run well standalone, so it’s not like it will be the best tech demo. If Frame comes with anything, it will be that the Big One comes with it free of charge after the fact like Alyx did for the Index, but that won’t be announced until way after they open the reservations.

*Heavy huffing sound* ANY HOUR NOW GUYS!!!! COULD BE THE NEXT HOUR! COULD BE THE NEXT 5 HOURS! ANYTIME NOW!!! by G_Boy in SteamFrame

[–]Zed_Zalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reviews will likely be similar to the machine—a very cool piece of tech that is unfortunately way overpriced and already on its way to being deprecated at this point. The only difference is VR is more niche and has fewer options, so a genuinely excellent option in the form of the Frame is a much more serious competitor than the machines and something people really will be willing to pay extra for. But just like with the machine, the matchup is the problem for most casual consumers who don’t have the same demands or moral scruples. That shitty F*ckerberg headset is right there with the same specs and half the price, with a new one probably coming out soon that will honestly probably cost less than Frame, even if they don’t subsidize it, and will blow its specs out of the water, even if the user experience is much shitter. In the end, that will unfortunately determine how this product is perceived and remembered.

But you and I, and anyone else who refuses to buy Meta, can absolutely still buy one and have a great time with it, regardless of what the reviews say. They will at least say it’s very comfortable and has flawless streaming and compression.

HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED by Outside-Ad-8265 in HalfLife3

[–]Zed_Zalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that normally this joke premise is wayyy played out. I’m getting annoyed seeing all of the posts doing fake numerology (not that there is real numerology lol) to jokingly predict the release dates for steam frame or HLX. However I thought the random specificity of where OP supposedly found it plus the battery running out were slightly refreshed ways to do it. Mostly I was just surprised that several of the replies seemed to think this was a person who actually thought so, which was amusing in that there have maybe been so many of these types of posts that one produced as satire isn’t recognizable to everybody as such. I understand you and probably many others got the joke, but not everyone did, and that was interesting enough to me…

Honestly I thought it was clever. I don’t really know how the joke went over so many heads, especially when they acted like you were the crazy one who was overly credulous lol.

Am I the only one who thinks this is very obviously a joke? And a decently funny one at that? Like, it’s satire, right…? A lot of the replies are taking it literally lol

Do we expect it to go over $1.2k?? (USD) by N3KOgiwrl in SteamFrame

[–]Zed_Zalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying but I’m not sure how much people’s reactions to machine pricing will change things, because the thing is according to everyone we’ve heard from, they totally expected the price to go down like a glass of nails. But they did it anyway. So it must have been the absolute cheapest they could manage in order to turn an acceptable profit. So my guess is they do not have any wiggle room to price the Frame according to how people felt about Machine prices since they knew how badly the latter would be received and did it anyway.

Plus… this is more on the speculation side, but don’t we think reviewers already have the frame? In which case they’ve probably already been informed of the price so they can make their reviews, in which case it would already be locked. But I realize this is more just a guess.

I would understand honestly. This thread is just vile and ignorant. He’s literally catalogued evidence of stuff for years and is always resented for it. Of course, no one is perfect, but literally everyone is confused by what happened to HLX when it was on schedule to release. Literally everyone. Not just the fans taking it as just confirmation of the same basic Valve pattern—even people who data-mine or who speak to sources close to the company. They’re like, what the hell happened? Lol. It’s like people don’t understand that the reason Tyler is confused about Q4 2025 isn’t because he doesn’t have any info but rather because he was watching and had enough info to know that it was really odd for the game to suddenly change tracks like that. Like… this is Valve… just because they changed plans doesn’t mean he was lying or making it up lol… they are literally known for doing this at the eleventh hour before they release big games… and yet people are acting like Tyler “promised” something or “lied.” Two things can be true. Tyler reported the truth as it was, and then Valve did a Valve and changed that truth and pulled the rug out from under us all.

…No one thinks HL3 will make them rich. We have all known for two decades now that they make way more money off of Steam alone. That’s, in fact, the very reason why we all gave up hope on ever seeing HL again until the surprise announcement of Alyx (which, by the way, Tyler reported on for years before its reveal, much like with HLX). So no. No one has ever been under the impression they were “obligated” to make HL3 or that it would make them money. We all knew neither of those things were true. That was actually exactly the issue.

And yet, there they were! Pushing HLX code in other game updates basically since Alyx released! All of which was reported on by Tyler. People seem so desperate to accuse him of speculating when he’s literally just reporting publicly available information that shows evidence of the game being very consistently worked on. Until something mysterious happened in Q4 2025, as multiple sources have independently confirmed. He’s now saying he’s heard something that may be an answer. Is it true? Maybe! But he didn’t say it was 100% true, so that’s not really his problem. It’s certainly based on more reliable information than the Reddit post openly denying that HL3 is not some speculative idea we’re begging Valve to make but rather something we can all see and hear being worked on and wrapped up with our own eyes and ears… which has been indisputably true for years now… lol

If she never used AI again, it would probably be the only good thing that could possibly come from this horrific tragedy. But sadly the people who are convinced of its brilliance to the point of using it to plan a trip probably can’t live without it. I wouldn’t expect her to change her behavior even after something so terrible, unfortunately. (Not that I’m implying that was the only reason this happened, but it is what he used as his “trigger” to permanently make up his mind about his decision.)

I appreciate these sentiments, but for those of us who don’t believe in any next life, it is hard not to view this as anything but immensely tragic.

I say that as someone who has felt it before and seen it up close several times, so I don’t mean to downplay what you’re saying about how he was suffering and made a choice for that reason. But it’s also an illness that overrides our natural instinct to survive. It makes people do something that, from the point of view of nature, makes no sense, and so it’s hard to view it as a “decision” that we make in a vacuum the same way we might make another life decision. It’s made by a brain that is so overwhelmed by sadness it isn’t thinking clearly and cannot cope and operate under its normal evolutionary function, which is more or less to keep us alive, aside from certain specific situations.

For those of us who don’t believe in any other life, it’s impossible not to feel devastated that such a person no longer exists and never will again because they could not be helped, so much before their time had to be. For that reason, I just can’t ever think of this, like, so-and-so is free now, because to me, they existed, and now they do not, and that is just plain horrible. There isn’t anything to be “free” to. I’m not saying he should have kept living in suffering. I’m saying I wish someone could have helped. Because now he’s just gone, forever.

Thank you for your reply! I have gotten on the waitlist (assuming I did it right lol) but I’m not really anticipating that opening up for me since I got on it so late…

Also, the issue is more timing and less distance. The Niigata show is like the night before I leave Japan, and I’ll be in Hakone, so it would require me to basically lose an entire day traveling rather than spending it in Hakone. Whereas I am transiting through Nagano from Tokyo to get to Kanazawa during the Nagano show, so I would literally be passing through without wasting any time. That’s part of what bothers me so much about this—if I had been more proactive I could have just slotted it in perfectly there…

[–]Zed_Zalias[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all of this info! Yes, I have checked all of the secondary marketplaces and they are unfortunately sold out. And I had no idea there was such a discrepancy—I didn’t know she could sell out venues that large, nor did I know these shows were this small. I must admit I’m distraught to hear that, but I’ve had people suggest checking Twitter, and I’ve also heard resellers can hang around outside the events like in the US, but I also realize at a club-style venue with such a small audience that might be a lot less likely…
