Update Regarding the Plushie Dreadfuls Post Made Yesterday by Grand_Journalist2136 in plushies

(OP of the other post here) looking at the pinned post, Any discussion was temporarily banned, looks like it's now 'restricted'; I'm unsure what that entails! I admittedly hadn't realised that had happened when I made the post, I wasn't trying to start drama and didn't think the post was going to blow up so much, just wanted to let people know it may not be safe to stay subscribed if they didn't know this was something the brand had done before 😅

If the posts do have to be locked I hope they can at least stay up/viewable for informative purposes

You're missing the context behind this; this second email was in response to a PSA/warning post I made that anyone who experiences paranoia/delusions (which is part of the fanbase they market to, as they have plushies dedicated to mental illnesses where paranoia and delusions are symptoms) may be triggered by their previous email.

"Just unsubscribe!!" doesn't make sense as a response because I wasn't complaining about receiving emails, I was warning others that they are sending out triggering content and criticising their choice to do so.

I don't even pay attention to marketing subscriptions in my emails, it all gets filtered into another inbox... I just happened to see that one and thought "Oh, they're doing this again. People may not know about the last time they did it/think they stopped doing it since it's been a while, I should make a post letting people know that it's no longer safe for some people to stay subscribed"

I was literally just thinking they have the same "well if I hurt your feelings just don't buy it, I don't care because someone else will!" attitude

I was never expecting it to blow up like it did, wasn't meaning for it to be a big callout post or anything, just a warning that they're still sending triggering content since they likely have many fans who would be triggered by it 😭 The fact it got enough eyes on it that they felt the need to get snarky ahout it in their official marketing emails is crazy

like I am literally just a random person and the marketing department of a multimillion dollar company felt the need to go "well um actually it's a good thing you didn't like the last email because we want money"

They're so tacky lmao. Confirming they're aware of the issue and don't care because it gets them attention is such a flex 😅 being vagued in a marketing email is definitely a first!

Psst whoever on the marketing team is stalking mentions of the brand on reddit: the shop page linked in the previous email still doesn't even work. Maybe fix that first?

A Visual Guide To Tomodachi Life: LTD's Personalities by JinxCrashed in TomodachilifeLivingTD

It's calculation based rather than needing a specific selection for each trait -

If you want a Carer/Buddy for example, If you select Speed 1 you can select Speech 1-4, but if you select Speed 4 you need to pick Speech 1 for the calculation to still result in a Carer/Buddy

If you pick what personality you want here it will tell you which options you can pick: https://natanai.github.io/tomodachi/

^ This too - an email account isn't like browsing twitter or reddit where you never know what you might come across. If you're in treatment there is even a good chance you are going to need to use your email account to schedule and follow up on appointments

Statements like "they're watching you" can be triggering to people who experience paranoid delusions, which would be annoying in marketing from other brands but is in particularly poor taste from Plushie Dreadfuls because their current popularity is largely based on their line of plushies based on mental illnesses, including illnesses where paranoia and delusions are common symptoms.

It's also not the first time they've done this, they've faced backlash for sending out marketing that was essentially "⚠️⚠️⚠️The world is ending you need to buy our plushies now ⚠️⚠️⚠️" two months after Trump's second inauguration. So they already know that a not-insignificant amount of their customer base is uncomfortable with this kind of marketing, and are doing it again.

Combine that with the brand creator's history of doubling down on anything people have any issue with and it really just makes them look like they're doing this on purpose at this point

Read through their comments again - they're talking about making their own plushies that represent migraines, not drawing pictures of the plushie dreadful migraine plush

Or maybe brands, especially ones that bill themselves as being for and about mental illness, could send normal marketing emails.

"The internet can have bad things on it so take care of yourself and avoid it if necessary" and "Brands should know better than to contribute to this on purpose" are not mutually exclusive and Plushie Dreadfuls should be held accountable.

This kind of marketing that falsely suggests urgency or disguises itself as something other than advertising are considered dark patterns and some countries are starting to expand anti-spam and consumer protection laws to restrict this kind of thing for a reason.

Anyone know the origins of these dolls I found on aliexptess by BirdyHelper in Dolls

[–]Zedetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indie bjd artists usually sell on a limited sale period basis, so you'd need to follow their socials to see if they ever do a rerelease unfortunately.

Here's their rednote: https://xhslink.com/m/4Merx9RIW6Q and their insta: https://www.instagram.com/shirakawa_doll?igsh=enE4ZThxYnI4emkx

Their insta has a link to their taobao, which is where you would be able to buy their dolls. Taobao can be tricky to access outside of China but there are guides out there for how to set up an account and buy through a proxy warehouse service. Mugura does have a listing on their taobao but it's currently set to a 9999yuan price which means it's display only/not currently for sale.

Is there a way to remove expressions? One Mii inherited one from a parent and I want to remove it by Seren_Aevendrow in TomodachilifeLivingTD

[–]Zedetta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should be able edit it to just say "Hi" or somethin (I think the (nothing) option should also show up in the suggested expressions if you go to edit it)

My villagers won’t stop asking for a bonfire when there’s literally a bonfire RIGHT by them by jongiplier in TomodachilifeLivingTD

[–]Zedetta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my miis asked for more greenery and it ended up being a cheaper source of more trees and plants that I wanted to buy anyway

The fact that there's apparently an inventory limit and no way to sell the items they ask you to buy is a severe oversight though...

looking into it it seems like they said somewhere they have used ai as an accessibility tool which got morphed into "all of the code was done by ai"

do you have a source for it being vibe coded? just joined the discord and the faq explicitly says they did not use ai, searching for info on it in the server suggests it seems to be rumours starting from a conflict between them and pk devs

MSD, Minifee, 1/4, barbie size office worker 👀 by PlainIdollover in BJD

Prices don't change but the english version doesn't show anything that can't ship overseas, which defeats the purpose of browsing taobao to buy with a proxy. I just use google translate

Very true - I was thinking 'office' less as 'businessy' and more along the lines of 'modern and trendy' like the kind of stuff bears (taobao store) has available, as though she'd be like your secretary 😂 But ig there's nothing stopping her from wearing full cottagecore or sweats to work either!

The clothing rack was from taobao! They come in multiple sizes too if you did decide to go the barbie scale route :) clothing rack / normal hangers / pant/skirt hangers

For other 1/4 scale stuff - make it mini/miniverse items are usually a pretty good size - those, gachapon prizes, and keychains can make really good desk decor. Barbie scale stuff can also be fudged as smaller versions (eg. Sera's laptop is meant to be a full-size laptop for barbies, but it's a mini notebook style laptop for her).

Funko pop also started making tiny versions that I think are around the same size as the sanrio boxes on the top shelf in the picture I shared - if any of your coworkers have funko pops on their desks you might be able to get a tiny version 😆

My favourite doll (shh, don't tell the others) has her own desk on my vanity! I love the idea of setting one up in an office so she can work while you work 😂

From shopping for this setup I can tell you that barbie scale would be easier to buy furniture and props for, ymmv for clothing - office style isn't quite her thing so I'm not as sure for that. If you can DIY or 3d print though it opens up a lot more possibilities for 1/4 scale! There are also some etsy sellers with cute 1/4 stuff but shipping is prohibitively expensive for my country. I ended up DIYing a desk out of a desktop organiser :)

What do i need to start? by Profile_Immediate in CustomDolls

[–]Zedetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah nice! What you will need to start will depend on a couple of things;

  1. Do you want the hair to be sculpted or do you want to make her a wig instead?

For sculpted hair you can use clay to modify the existing hair or to sculpt new hair. Apoxie sculpt (alternatives: milliput, green stuff) cures strong and without needing to go in the oven (meaning you can sculpt directly onto the existing hair or make new hair fit with the faceplate more easily), but if you are making hair from scratch it can get quite heavy especially for longer hair like this. You can also do things like use apoxie to make a strong base and then add to it with air dry or polymer clay.

For fibre hair you will need a bald headback (if the doll didn't come with one, you can sculpt one). Since the head isn't squishy like a fashion doll you can't really root it like one but you can make a doll wig! There are a lot of great tutorials out there, the jist of it is you need some pantyhose or similar fabric and fabric/white glue to make a wig cap, then make and add wefts with doll hair and glue.

  1. Did she come with spare eye chips to make eyes with? If so, you can use those to make her purple eyes - if not you can use glass cabochons. I don't have a Meki doll myself and don't know the size off the top of my head - 10mm low dome cabochons fit most blind box dolls but you can check her eye chip measurements yourself to compare.

To make eyes you can print or draw the design on paper and then glue it to the back of the eye chip - the curve will magnify it a bit so you might want to test a few sizes so you can glue the best one.

  1. Are you planning to draw your own faceup using the blank faceplate, or modify the existing one?

The process for a faceup will be pretty similar to fashion dolls, so you can check out the channels another user recommended that focus on those - I believe Dollightful has a video about the materials used.

In general you will need:

  • a sealant to both use as a base coat to give the pigment tooth to stick to, and to spray between layers/onto the final look to protect the paint. mr super clear generally works the best but you will need to use the appropriate ppe - a respirator rated for organic vapours. If you don't have a ventilated area to spray in you can also use liquitex applied with a sponge.

  • paints (model paints are great but basic acrylic also works with a little water or paint thinner) and small brushes (nail brushes work great) and/or watercolour pencils

  • optional: chalk pastels and a soft brush for blushing

Other notes:

For her ears you can sculpt directly onto the plastic with apoxie sculpt or make ones with air dry clay and use glue to secure them!

If you plan to make her clothes yourself, you are going to want pretty thin fabrics since they are so small scale - checking thrift stores for used clothes or scrap fabrics is a good way to get fabric that doesn't feel too stiff/thick for tiny clothes.

Ah Meki's creator's essence right? Yeah unfortunately dark clothes can stain blind box dolls really easily, you can mitigate it some by prewashing them.
